Rank #1: 212 | Lacy Phillips of Free & Native on Situational Magnetism, Subconscious Beliefs, Body Image, Style, Authenticity + much more

A few months ago I was introduced to Free & Native's Lacy Phillips through my friend Katie. Over dinner one night Katie mentioned a workshop she’d recently attended in New York led by Lacy. After hearing about her experience, I was intrigued, yet slightly apprehensive because after years of obsession and addiction to all things personal-growth, spirituality, and manifestation I was at a point where I was exhausted by content even in the vicinity of self-help. Despite my trepidation I checked out Free & Native and few clicks and several hours later, I was hooked. Luckily, Lacy’s work is anti-self help while being the most helpful content I’ve stumbled upon in recent years. From her style and aesthetic to her message and wisdom, her work became very meaningful to me in the weeks leading up to this interview so I was a bit nervous to meet her in person when it finally arrived. Fortunately, Lacy was so warm and welcoming putting me at ease the second I walked into her Brooklyn apartment. We sipped a tea infusion she made us (She's also an herbalist) and chatted for hours about everything from bodies and food to style and design to relationships and finding partnership to authenticity, envy, feeling feelings, labels, boundaries, and of course debunking myths about manifestation. She’s the real deal; kind, genuine, smart, articulate, and beautiful. I loved this episode.

I’m a huge fan of all things simple, clean and eco-friendly. That’s why when I found Branch Basics it was exactly what I was looking for in cleaning products. They have a single multi-purpose concentrate that makes cleaning simple, affordable and sustainable. All of the products use just one solution mixed with different amounts of water which makes it both easy and significantly less expensive than similar single-use products. Plus I only have to keep one cleaning solution (which saves tons of space). Branch Basics is great for tackling any cleaning job around the house, from dishes to dirty laundry.

Today’s is a long one but a good one with the very wise Seher. We met at The Wing last spring and recorded this conversation a couple week’s ago in her beautiful Brooklyn apartment. Seher is one of the smartest, most fascinating people I know. As you’ll hear in this episode she was born to Pakistani immigrants in the San Francisco Bay area, then attended Wharton for business, initially attempted a traditional corporate job,  but ultimately became a freelance photographer. Now she views herself as an inter-disciplinarian; which we get into in this episode. We talk about leaving her corporate job, her transition to photography, learning a new skills, and becoming a music photographer. We talk a lot about family and navigating her very strict immigrant parents and a move across the country.  We also get into mental health stigma, her depression and what helped her with it, including therapy and wellness and healing arts including qigong, and way more it’s a long one and a good one. And at the I do my new my L & L segment.

It's a milestone for the WWRadio, this is episode number 40! Who better to bring us into the forties than my mentor and guru, the one and only Gabrielle Bernstein. If you've spent any time in Wonderland at all you already know that Gabby is a beyond successful author, speaker, entrepreneur, visionary, Kundalini and yoga teacher who is legit changing the world. Her work is a direct reflection of the authentic transformational work she's done on herself and her ability to teach others to implement these principles to change their lives as well. She is obviously a huge inspiration to me & I'm thrilled to share my conversation with her with Wonderland. She is everything she appears to be and more. If you're new to Gabby she has so much to offer you! Her third book, Miracles Now is essentially a "Gabby Bernstein Greatest Hits Album." Her previous 3 books have been best sellers & are mainstays on my self. Gabby is an amazing writer, but what she loves doing is speaking! You must see her lecture, either check out her videos or check out her book tour because she may be coming your way. I'm so excited for you to get a taste of Gabby if you're new or get a tune up of all things Gabby if you're a Gabby connoisseur as I am. In this conversation I asked what I'd been dying to ask Gabby as well as questions sent in by you. Enjoy every moment of this very special podcast episode I adore.

I’ve known Jess Lively for years, we both grew up in Michigan, and our paths overlapped there a few years ago. When we were both living there in 2016 we went to go see an Elizabeth Gilbert lecture about her book Big Magic and after over tacos we chatted for hours. Since then Jess has traveled all over the world in her own very Eat Pray Love-esque adventure and her life as changed so much. On that day we were both in an interesting places and I somehow shared with her off hand about Abraham Hicks over lunch, Jess ended up immersing herself in their work and implementing their concepts, along with many other teachers around the concept of law of attraction, manifestation, neuroscience, consciousness, and much more. She has  a unique  skill to distill heady esoteric content into practical terms. Most recently she's taken all of her work and created C-School, a live school in Australia where she now lives but is launching online this week. In this episode we talked about Death, loneliness, fear of not having enough time, body image and food, the law of attraction, time scarcity and time abundance, plus so much more. It was a different conversation than anything I was expecting and I loved every second.

Rank #5: 032 | TARA STILES

Podcast cover

Today’s WWRadio guest, Tara Stiles, has been my idol since I started practicing yoga in a high school gym class. She inspired me to take my yoga practice off of the mat, taught me that yoga was for everyone, and inspired me to become a teacher. Through her yoga  videos, easy yet creative recipes, books, dvds, and support she has been like a yoga big sister and friend to me. A fellow Midwesterner, I connect with her so deeply and I know you will too. In today’s conversation we get into everything from her early ballet and modeling career, how she found yoga, how she started her own business, and advice for yogis and entrepreneurs. She explains how yoga can be effective for weight-loss as well as so many concepts on how to find the ease in your life. She so smart, knowledgeable, and down-to-earth.

My favorite lines & nuggets of wisdom: YEP THEY’RE TWEETABLES…Just click right on ‘em!

“Just bend your knees anyone can touch their toes.”

“Yoga’s not about being flexible, it’s about making space for yourself.”

“Trusting your intuition will lead to a healthy capable life.”

“Yoga exists in all of us why do we need to look the same way when we do it?”

TIP: In regards to relationships, when working with your partner be sure to define clear roles. Know who is doing what and what you are each comfortable with. Learn that as women become the powerful business people it is okay for you to have your smart guy there in a supporting role.

If you’re going to work together, still act like a company and define clear roles and turn it off at night. It’s important to set priorities especially when you’re so passionate about your business.

This episode feels so cozy to me. Listening to it brought back all the joy I felt when we recorded a couple weeks ago in Ruby's beautiful Brooklyn apartment. Sitting across from her surrounded by lush plants, shinny crystals, and cool photography-- I never wanted to end the episode and after two hours of flowing conversation it was truly hard to leave. Ruby is one of those people you meet and immediately want to be around and listen to. Not only does she have a soothing voice (complete with a British accent) with it she tells stories of her life in London as a fashion and lifestyle journalist, spews fascinating spiritual and astrology facts, antidotes of falling in love and moving to New York City, starting her online magazine The Numinous, and musing being a Material Girl in a Mystical World.  I'm proud of this conversation and how it effortlessly meandered into such interesting areas. We of course talked about her journalism career where she interviewed everyone from Lady Gaga to Claire Danes but also things I've never heard her discuss before like her eating disorder recovery and how she met and fell in love with her husband. We talk about how she found a career that she loves and fills her up as well as how she got into astrology and what the process of writing her book was like and what sharing it with her family was like. We get into the mystical vs. the scientific and where she is now with spiritual activism at the core of all her work which means taking all this mystical knowledge and using it for good in the world. I adore Ruby, her message, book, and this conversation. Hope you like it too and let me know.

Today's episode is with the very wise Dr. Christiane Northrup. She's an OBGYN who has been the leader in holistic female health since the early 1990s. She's been featured on Oprah several times and her many best selling books have helped shift people's approach to health (like the bigger picture 'health' that expands beyond the physical), especially for women. For long-time pod listeners you may remember that I interviewed her daughter Kate Northrup as one of my first guests on the show. Dr. Northrup is so wise and gives such interesting information about sex, pleasure, and relationships as well as so much more in this episode. In our conversation we cover her background and her past work, why it has been so important and how that has led her to the work she is doing now and her latest book she wrote. We cover her wisdom gained on 'getting older', the changes in the medicine and wellness industry, the importance of embracing sexuality, the interconnectedness (in our bodies and beyond). She lists so many good resources in this episode, especially books, so be sure to check out the show notes below. If you have any questions for Dr. Northrup or myself tweet at us or reach out to us in the Facebook Group here.

Who better to kick off season 3 of WWRadio than today's radically authentic guest. She brings out my own raw insights on our relationship with food and body image. Isabel Foxen Duke is only our second repeat guest and an emotional freedom from food extraordinaire and coach, Isabel stopped by Wonderland on episode 009 to shed light on real techniques on how to release toxic relationships to food and tell her personal food journey that led her to the work she does with women today. Most of us have become lint rollers picking up some pretty nasty thought patterns around food, whether we realize it or not. I challenge you to own it first and then listen to today's episode with an open mind about changing that.

We discuss this in our first Podcast together but the first step to freedom from emotional attachment to food and becoming what Ellyn Satter calls a 'normal eater' is to get honest about where you are. In this conversation we'll help you figure out exactly where that is. Listen to the whole thing, it's really eye opening and packed with info so you might want to listen multiple times to really let is soak in. We go really high level in this podcast so jump back to listen to our first episode together to get more info about Isabel and her personal story in episode 009. & I've also interviewed her multiple times & all those links are below as well.

Gabrielle Bernstein has been my friend and mentor for over 4 years now. She's the real deal, helping people all over the world with her books and lectures, but the thing I admire most about Gabby is how much she truly loves what she does. Her passion for her work is what's most inspiring to me. I hope she never stops writing and creating and I really don't think she will. This book The Universe Has Your Back (out today!) is super timely with everything going on in the world. There's a worldly need for growth beyond our own personal development onto how we're going to navigate the tumultuous times we're living in. In today's episode Gabby talks about why this book was the most challenging to write and took double the amount of time than her pervious books, where the idea for the book came from, and how this book is different from her previous books. Enjoy my candid conversation with Gabby.

I discovered Ashley C Ford a few years ago on Lena Dunham's podcast Women of the Hour. After listening to her very soothing voice for the hour and connecting with what she spoke,  I started following her on Twitter (highly recommend) and reading every essay she's ever written. She's one of the most honest and talented writers I've ever read and I admire her deeply....which you'll hear me gush about throughout this episode. If you have gotten any of my recent emails or if your in the podcast facebook group it's likely you have seen me sharing Ashley Ford's writings. Specifically this last essay she did which I've shared a bunch. Ashley is a brilliant, and incredibly authentic--the type of person I could spend all day talking with. She has been one of my mentors from afar and I'm super excited to continue to learn from her and hopefully take classes from her eventually. In today's conversation we explore topics like "feeling enough", relationships, contentment, of course writing, moving to New York from the Midwest, body image, and the importance of communication. I loved this episode and I love this person.

I find guests for this podcast in a myriad of ways . Today's guest was recomended by a podcast listener and longtime internet friend. Our cozy conversation in her Manhattan apartment on a cold Friday night exceeded my expectations and meandered all over. Claire is not only beautiful but wise, insightful, and vulnerable. She's known for yoga yet we barely touched on yoga and instead focusing on her winding path to where she is now including  her eating disorder in her teens, how she stumbled into the career she's in now, all the way up to  her decision to go on to grad school for psychology. We talked about food psychology, the value of therapy, the complexities body positivity, being a social media influencer and what that even means, sustainable self-love, comparison in social media and beyond, journaling and writing, and much more. I loved meeting Claire and I think you will too.

I've been recording this podcast in my bedroom since 2013. I've recorded over 150 hours of conversation, connected with people all over the world, and made real life friends through my guests and listeners. I've gleaned an abundance of wisdom from the diverse group of guests I've had the opportunity to uninterruptedly speak with people I deeply admire and respect, getting to ask them anything I was curious about, an opportunity I don't take for granted. At 22 years old, freshly out of college I never would have imaged how much a purely creative passion project would mean to me almost four years later or how it would have grown. I feel like a completely different person now at 26 to who I was back then when I started but one thing remains, my favorite movie is still an indie movie my college boyfriend showed me in 2010 called HappyThankYouMorePlease. This film reminded, me even if only for that hour and forty minutes, that with gratitude the universe is infinitely abundant. I told everyone about the movie and I re-watched it so often that the dvd (remember those?) my boyfriend gave me wore out. Two years later, probably sick of rewatching the same movie on repeat he showed me a new movie called Liberal Arts he claimed I'd like equally as much since it had the same writer, director, and star as the first movie I fell in love with. He was right. I fell hard for Liberal Arts too. This film was timely since we'd just graduated from college and were wrestling with the concept of adulthood which Liberal Arts directly and beautifully tackles. These movies led me to explore their creator the man both in front and behind the camera: Josh Radnor. I realized Josh was was a really famous guy from starring in the hit sitcom How I Met Your Mother, I also learned he was midwestern like me, a meditator like me, and a deeply self-aware, wise, and kind human being. I became as fascinated with him as a person as I was by his work. He inspired me, he made me think about things like religion, creativity, and writing in a new way and above all his insight inspired me to want to be better at being myself and expressing myself creatively. Whenever anyone would ask who my dream podcast guest would be I would say Josh, not knowing the slightest how I could get a hold of him or make that happen. It seemed like a pipe dream, but long story short it happened and today you're hearing my conversations with one of my favorite people, someone whose work is super meaningful to me and above all someone from what I can tell is genuinely kind, generous, wise and woke. Enjoy my dream come true of a conversation with Josh Radnor.

Thanks @lenadunham for bringing awareness to body positivity. @isabelfoxenduke & @katiedalebout discuss #notthatkindofgirl

TIPS:

-When you find yourself counting calories even when you don't want to, actively stop yourself by thinking about anything but food.
-Keep in mind that celebrities are first entertainers and role models second. While they bring attention to these deep rooted body image issues most women struggle with in silence in and that is great, they do not aim to teach they are simply sharing their often flawed experience of being products of our society.

Full show notes here.

Sarah Britton of My New Roots was one of the first food blogs I started following over 7 years ago. Sarah didn't know it at the time but she was my holistic habits mentors - teaching me from a far everything from how to cook quinoa, to the wonder that is nutritional yeast and other kitchen tricks I had never heard of. Now, years later, her blog has become hugely popular, she's become a mother to a beautiful baby boy, has written two books, and her business has expanded beyond what she had ever expected. In this conversation we explore topics you may expect like healthy habits both in the kitchen and in everyday life. But we also talk about things you may not have expected like manifestation, travel and living abroad, and our mutual love for Abraham Hicks. There is something for everyone in this conversation and honestly we could have talked for hours more. Take a listen and let us know what you think in the Facebook Group. If you loved the episode and have more questions that we didn't cover post them there . I've also got a couple events coming up I hope to see some of you at! Ever since my friend Jess Murnane told me about Phoebe I wanted to be her friend. It wasn't until I met her in person for the is podcast that I truly realized how smart, funny, wise, and interesting she is. She's one of those people I could talk to for hours and in this episode I did. We recorded this conversation a couple weeks ago in Williamsburg, Brooklyn over cranberry kombucha. Phoebe recently wrote her second book book, The Wellness Project, which highlights so much of what I have been trying to integrate into my life over the past couple years: balancing healthy habits with enjoyment of life (or as Phoebe describes it health vs. hedonism). We also talk about the balance between being ambitious and letting things happen without  pushing and about following your passion even when the path is unclear. Between all these topics you'll hear about my kitchen horror stories (knife scars and all) along with laughs of us bonding over being only children and loving New York City. This is my favorite episode I've done in a while and I think you'll love it too.
