Well you probably heard the term private labeling before you may be wondering what exactly is private labeling and there is another term as well and they are kind of used interchangeably. The other term is white labeling. So let me give you some definitions from Wikipedia for these terms. White labeling is a product produced by one company that other companies rebrand to make it appear as if they have made it and private labeling is products or services are typically those manufactured or produced by one company for offer under another company’s brand.

So I am finally going to pull the trigger it's time now for me to look into opening a separate account for selling my private label product or my main private label product. I have been selling on Amazon for several years now 7 or 8 years via FBA and selling private label products for over a year now. As my private label business takes off I don't want my customers to click on my company name and see a bunch of other products out there that aren’t related to that particular niche. So I am going to go ahead and pull the trigger and see if I can open up a second account. Now let me explain the process and this is documented in Amazon terms of service and their help files and it says Operating Multiple Seller Central Accounts here is the policy. Operating and maintaining multiple seller central accounts is prohibited, if you have a legitimate business need for a second account, you can apply for an exemption to this policy contact seller support and chose other account issues from the account settings section of the form.

And today I'm going to be talking about where to source inventory for flipping. Last week I covered the seed money phase. The seed money phase was just raising some quick capital that you then use in phase 2. We're in phase 2 now and phase 2 is taking that seed money and then turning that into working capital that I can then use to fund my Amazon private label business.

She says, “James I really appreciate all that you are doing to show us how to make money on Amazon and I especially like the series that you did on starting from scratch with no money however my situation is I don’t even have a smart phone. So I don’t have any way of scanning an item to determine if I am going to be able to make a profit on it or not.” Well you got to think back to the days and I think back to several years ago when we didn’t have smart phone, we didn’t have cellphones and I was able to make money doing retail arbitrage and there are several ways you can do that.

Today I am going to talk about strategies for raising quick cash using eBay. So we talked about yesterday eBay is much harder than selling items on Amazon just because of the amount of time involved and listing the item and then having to pack that item up and ship it off to the buyer however you get paid really quickly. So if you are going to bind and you need to raise money quickly then eBay is the way to go but if you are going to using eBay let me give you a strategy for how the list items and this strategy is based off of my in the trenches research and actually doing this for the past 6 weeks and looking at my auctions as I have listed 122 items on eBay over last 2 weeks and I have learned a ton because as I am doing it I am testing different things to see what works best. Okay so first off list your items on Thursday night at 9 o’clock pm Eastern Time and use a 3 day listing option the reason for that, the reason I am being so specific with that is because studies have shown and actually eBay has said themselves that the most activity on eBay on Sunday night at around 9 o'clock pm Eastern Time.

How to ship FBA inventory to one warehouse? This is a question that comes up periodically and this is a big concern especially for sellers who are sending in a lot of different types of merchandize to Amazon for example people who are selling used books or people who are selling retail arbitrage type items. What happens is when you are on the shipping part and you are preparing your shipment to Amazon and you filled out all your information and after you click that create shipment button it tells you that you have to send 3 of those items to Springfield Illinois and 5 of those items to Chattanooga Tennessee and the other 2 items to Columbia South Carolina. So you are actually shipping in 3 different containers instead of putting everything into one container and that is going to increase your shipping cost and it's also just going to be a pain to do and take you much more time. Well there is a way around that. You can actually set in your seller central account there is an option that will allow you to ship to just one warehouse. Now let me tell you where that option is and then I will explain a little bit more about how it works.

Today I going to talk about the one thing that you have a lot of control over with your Amazon private label product listing that you can change right now and potentially increase your sales or at least increase the number of people who are seeing your listing and that one thing is to optimize your keywords. I have talked about this many, many, many times before but it is so important I want to go over it again. There are 3 places where keywords are important in your Amazon product listing and those are in your title, in your feature list and finally in the search term fields that are in your product listing interface. What I am finding when I am talking the students and when I get them to send me their keywords they are either not utilizing those spaces to the fullest or they are repeating keywords over and over and over again in those 3 places. It doesn't do you any good to repeat a keyword in your search term fields that you have already got in a title or in your title or in one of the bullet points.

While over the last couple of weeks I have been getting just inedited with emails from Amazon about all their new programs that they are coming out with. It looks like that Amazon is trying to get these new programs rolled out for the holiday Christmas selling season so they can see if they could add to their bottom line. Well let me go over a couple of these programs that amazon is rolling out and the first one is called handmade. This is Amazon’s challenge to Itsy, Itsy is the handcrafting or the crafting site where you can sign up and you can sale crafty items. Amazon says they offer unique handcrafted goods and there is lots of room for the artist designer to explain and show their products, the steps that go into the process of creating the product, this is great for people that make products that are not mass produced in huge factories.

SOA160: New Amazon Opportunities

Alright so this weekend I was hoping to be able to have a garage sale and get rid of the remaining inventory that I have from this Amazon challenge however once again mother nature did not co-operate and instead of the garage sale we had flash flood. We had the hurricane hit this weekend and so it rained all weekend long. Luckily we didn't lose power like a lot of the city but there was just too much water, too much rain to have a good yard sale. So I am going to wait, so I am not going to be able to do next weekend either because I am going to be out of town and so hopefully I will be able to do it the weekend after that so this has been 2 weeks now that I could not have that garage sale so I am really looking for to doing it because pretty sure that I can make few 100 or maybe even $1000 just for that one sale with all of this merchandize that I have that is all completely paid for from being able to flip the items on eBay and on Amazon as well. I do have some items on Craigslist and I have getting some calls about those in fact a guy came by this weekend and picked up one item which I made $10 on. He picked up the weather radio as a matter of fact which was extremely appropriate. I didn't need the thing but it was brand new in box.

SOA146: Challenge Update -- $661.28

This question is from Stacy. Stacy says, “What does reserve inventory mean?” She goes on to say, “I have got an item that I am getting ready to run out of inventory, however I just noticed that I have 20 units marked as being in reserve. So what exactly does reserve mean and how can I get those units back into my inventory so that I can sell them?” Okay first off if you log into your seller central account and then click on inventory and then manage inventory. That will take you to an area where you can see the reserve status of your items. If you look in that area it looks sort of like a spreadsheet and it just got different columns. So the first thing you want to do is, you want to click on the preferences and show all of the relevant columns that you want to see. So if you go to the right hand side of that form, you will see a button that says preferences, it will tell you how many columns are hidden. You might have ten or twelve columns that you are not even seeing. So click on preferences and I am going to tell you now the ones that I have checked that I think are important that you show on your form. Under column display, you want to have checked status, image, SKU, product name, date created, available, reserved, fee preview, price, lowest price, sales rank, buy box price and buy box eligible. You do that and click on save changes then when you go back to that spreadsheet form, you will see all those different columns.

SOA150: What does Reserved Inventory mean?

Today I am going to cover how Amazon treats different keywords variations, now keyword variations means a keyword that could be spelled a different way, keywords that could be miss-spelled, plural keywords, stemming keywords, things like that. So let me go over the different keyword variations and how Amazon treats them. Now first off stemming, what stemming is, the definition of stemming is basically reducing a derived word to its root form. So for example fish would be a root word and then fishing would be a stem and fished be another stem and fisher and then fisherman all those would be derivative words. So the stem word on that would be fish. Now Amazon says that you should not use the stemming variations and they give an example, they say, our search engine preforms basic stemming for example it will treat a search for gloves the same as the search for glove and you can actually verify that.

SOA163: How Amazon Treats Keyword Variations

This time every years Amazon sends out an email to all their sellers with the title something to the effect of holiday selling and toys and games on Amazon.com and I remember the first time I received this email several years ago, the way I read the email I thought that I would not be able to sell toys and games during the holiday season and the reason why is because Amazon words this, its kind of worded to the effect that you are not going to be able to sell toys and games unless you meet these fairly stringent criteria. Here is the criteria that Amazon has laid out and this is for selling toys between Nov 17th and January the 5th which is Amazon’s holiday season.

This episode is keywords, keywords, keywords so why are keywords so important? Well they are important because Amazon tells us they are important. This is what Amazon has to say about maximizing your exposer in the search engine. Customer search by entering keywords which are matched against the search terms you enter for a product. Well- chosen search terms increase the product’s visibility and sales. The number of views for a product detail page can increase significantly by adding just one additional search term. Now again that's not me telling you this that's actually an Amazon's seller central help system. So they are telling you that you should use as many keywords as possible. Now I talked before about how Amazon search works and how it's relevance that matter's you can listen to that episode no. 3 because it relates to what we are talking about here.

SOA167: Why are keywords so important? (EP #4)

All right and today we have a question from Stacy and Stacy says, “I am new seller on Amazon. Just started selling this month and I have sold 62 units so far.” So congratulation Stacy that's great and she said, “Out of 62 units I had 2 refunds, is that too high of the refund percentage and if it is then what do I need to do about it?” That is a great question Stacy and according to my research and from talking to other sellers Amazon doesn't really care too much about refunds. Now they do have other matrix that they are concerned about and to be sure now if you have a large refund rate then you definitely should look at your product and try to figure out why people are returning it and even message people that have asked for a refund and just very politely ask them if they will tell you what they were not satisfied with.

SOA148: Acceptible Refund Rate?

So I saw this post in the Facebook group and someone was asking, I know I can get this product for 50 cents each and sell it on Amazon as an add-on for $4.99. Obviously I would like to capitalize on this but what is an add-on product? Would my product have to be categorized this way? First off let me explain what an add-on product is. An add-on product is a product that is generally less than $5 although I have seen some that are close to $10 but they are very inexpensive products that Amazon will not ship to you as if you are a prime subscriber. As you probably know Amazon prime subscribers get free shipping on most products. Well this is an exception. Amazon is not going to ship you a $3 battery that cost them probably 5-6 dollars to ship to you. They are not going to send that to you for free.
