Rank #3: 68. Erik Davis, Miguel Conner & Jeff Wolfe in “Babalon Rising” // Jack Parsons, Feminine Archetypes & the Existentialism of Our Current Philip K. Dick World

Podcast cover
Read more

You picked a good time to hit the ol’ play button because we’re having ourselves a foursome for the first time. Erik Davis, Miguel Conner and Jeff Wolfe are all in the house. The basis for this chat is a couple pieces of writing Erik has done on Jack Parsons and what he calls Parsons’ magickal feminism.

Erik, of course, is a scholar, journalist, and public speaker best known for his cultural analysis and creative explorations of esoteric mysticism. He’s written about music, art, film, pop culture, and technology for Spin, Details, Rolling Stone and Wired magazines.

I had invited Erik onto the show to talk about those Parsons’ articles and was planning to tackle this solo. I even re-read Erik’s book TechGnosis, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, in preparation for this because I did want to pull some ideas out of that too. And the more I got into that book, and the more I got into Parsons and Babalon and magickal feminism, the more that this pairing here just made sense. I know Jeff is a mark for Erik’s work. Miguel is as well, in addition to being one of today’s pre-eminent Gnostic thinkers, and they both brought unique perspectives to this chat. This is, really, the three of us tag-teaming Erik, and it’s one of the better episodes I think we’ve been able to put together.

Rank #5: 33. Greg Stewart in "The Morals & Dogma of Freemasonry" // Hermeticism, Gnosticism & Kabbalah

Podcast cover
Read more

Ooo wee, we’re back with nothin’ but pure unadulterated love drippin’ down into that ear canal. And things are about to get a bit more intimate, because it’s time to lay back and settle in for a long, hot, spine-tingling eargasm.

And the man with the master plan for building us up to that is the Hermetic Hermit himself, Mr. Greg Stewart.

Greg is a 3rd-degree Blue Lodge Mason and a 32nd-degree Scottish Rite Mason. He’s been called a Masonic bodhisattva because of his quest to return Freemasonry to its esoteric roots. As a devoted student of the esoteric mystery schools, Greg is a firm believer in the Masonic connection to the Hermetic traditions of antiquity, its evolution through the ages, and its present configuration as the antecedent to most present day esoteric and occult practices.

Greg has explored the rites of Masonic initiation through a variety of initiatory systems with the goal of understanding the deeper meaning behind them. In that process, Greg’s exploration has converged with mainstream and esoteric religious traditions, rituals of religious practice, and their intersecting undercurrents.

Now, on the other side of that journey, the focus of his attention is on how those intersections relate to the Great Work, a subject he explores in a book series called Symbolic Lodge, which looks at the first three degrees of Blue Lodge Freemasonry and brings together aspects of Hermetica, the Kabbalah, the tarot, and other esoteric and occult fields to help understand the hidden meaning at work in the Symbolic Lodge of Freemasonry.

Greg previously maintained a blog called Masonic Traveler from 2005-2009, and you can read some of his essays and commentary from that blog in book form, published under the same name. Greg also formerly co-hosted and produced the Masonic Central podcast, the archives of which can be found, along with the rest of his personal Great Work, on the website FreemasonInformation.com.

Rank #6: 131. Michael Joseph in “Old World Order” // Occult Catholicism, the Talmud, Satan & the Golems of the Pharisees

Podcast cover
Read more

Michael Joseph is back in the house for the third time to wade into the deep end of his most recent YouTube series that centers around a conflict that he describes as the Old versus the New World Order in relationship to a Catholic or Universal doctrine.

And that phrase, New World Order, conjures many ideas and images, but with it comes a question not asked by many: if there’s a New World Order, what then is the Old World Order? And that is a question Mike has sought to answer, and it’s an answer that will spiral out in directions that question the occult and esoteric doctrines we’re all familiar with, and it examines where they may have came from, who may be the true authors of them, and what secret doctrine they might be trying to impart onto us, the profane masses.

Rank #7: 38. SMQ.AI in "We Died in 2012" // The Mandela Effect, Cymatics, CERN & Transhumanism

Podcast cover
Read more

YouTuber SMQ.AI is in the hooooouuuuuuse. SMQ has been making videos for the past few months that present a personal philosophy and cosmology based on one simple idea: that we all died in 2012.

A lot of strange things happened that year, if you recall. You had the supposed end of the Mayan calendar, which seems like bullshit now. You also have false flag events such as Sandy Hook, which woke up a lot of people, this guy included. You also had the supposed discovery of the god particle by scientists at CERN, the Curiosity rover supposedly landed on Mars, and then there’s something that SMQ brings up regarding a potentially prophetic quote from Terence McKenna that has to do with 2012. And then this thing called the Mandela Effect seemed to really ramp up around this time as well.

And that’s the basis for SMQ’s YouTube videos, which constructs his cosmology of our collective death in 2012 via subjects such as the aforementioned Mandela Effect, cymatics, the cyclical nature of time, CERN, and transhumanism. We touch on all these topics and more, including creativity, muses, art as magic, and vertical thinking vs. lateral thinking.

This is one of the more thought-provoking episodes I’ve done, and we sort of ease into it, but once we get going, we gone. So hang on. ‘Cause this pod is casting off into a reality where time and art are the only currencies that matter.

Rank #10: 64. Dr. Carolyn Elliott in “Witch in Scorpio” // The Conspiracy Against Magic & the Occult Millennial Generation

Podcast cover
Read more

Our guest this time around is Dr. Carolyn Elliott. Carolyn has a PhD in Critical and Cultural Studies from the University of Pittsburgh. Her dissertation ended up as the basis for the cult-favorite book on creativity called Awaken Your Genius. Carolyn is also the founder of WITCH magazine, which gives voice and prominence to the subtle witching in the world that’s not confined to tradition and convention. She’s also the teacher of INFLUENCE, a course on mastering practical magic. All in all, Carolyn’s professional ventures aim to help people achieve dramatic positive change in their lives through shadow integration practices and applied occult philosophy.

Carolyn is in the house because I came across an article she wrote for Witch magazine called “5 Keys to Understanding the Conspiracy Against Magic”. That led me to a free ebook she co-wrote called “Pluto in Scorpio”, which is an occult look at the millennial generation. Both these pieces of writing are the basis for the conversation you’re about to hear. There’s magic and psychology, the fear of the feminine and even the alchemy of Oprah. And if you don’t mind a few Skype gremlins and sexual innuendos, you’ll like this one quite a bit.

Rank #11: 35. Occult Fan in "The Holy Gift" // Trivium, Quadrivium, Kabbalah, Fibonacci, Archons & Entities in Tool’s Lateralus

Podcast cover
Read more

Holy gift! Nathan Lee Miller Foster, better known across the intrawebz as Occult Fan, is back in the house for an epic chat about the occult symbolism found throughout an album called Lateralus, released in 2001 by the band Tool.

Now, as it stands, Lateralus is a beautiful piece of music, maybe the most beautiful piece of music, by a band that’s revered for its hypnotic and psychedelic progressive metal sound. It is High Art, capital H, capital A.

After its release, this album became the subject of much speculation across online forums and now has a firm place in internet lore. Essentially, it was discovered that this album, Lateralus, could have its songs rearranged into a different order, and that order provided an entirely new and different listening experience, one that was, honestly, more coherent and more metaphysical, and dare I say more spiritual. Not to mention, the rather overt - and also covert - references to popular occulture, which our number one Occult Fan is going to point out for us.

Now, despite our previous episode together, this is actually the first time Nathan Lee and I spoke, so we also cover some personal stuff up front - you know, the who are you, what do you do, what sort of juju is your jam sort of stuff - and there are some tangents here and there, and a few interludes of sort. But if you guys stick around for the entirety, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

We cover a ton of ground here, including the discovery of The Holy Gift album itself, the thematic thread that runs through this rearranged album, and the symbolism found in the album artwork. This is jam-packed with everything an occult fan could want: the seven liberal arts and the Fibonacci sequence, alchemy and magic, interdimensional entities and archonic control, the kabbalah, consciousness, conspiracy theories, Coast to Coast AM and pop occulture references galore. Hell, I may even share some information with you on how to possibly jump between dimensions, and hell, Nathan Lee may even read us some fuckin’ Tolstoy, and hell, this whole thing may even loop around and spiral up and down and end where it began.

This is, honestly, one for the aeons and one for the archons.

Independent researcher Michael Wann is in the house to introduce us to what he calls the Susquehanna mystery.

Mike has uncovered a potential nexus of advanced-level conspiracy and occult history that centers around both the Susquehanna River, which starts in New York state and empties into the Chesapeake Bay, as well as the 40th parallel.

This is a story that also has connections to John Dee and the Enochian system, as well as the technological singularity. Really, there's a ton of data here and it can be quite difficult to parse through it all in even two hours. If you're a patron, however, there's another two hours coming with Mike on this subject, and if you're not a patron and want more, please do check out patreon.com/occulture.

I should also note that due to length of this - it clocked in at 3.5 hours in total - I did not do as much post production on this as I usually do. So if you hear more breath noises or uhhs and umms than usual, I do apologize.

Rank #14: 104. Tracy Twyman in “Cicada0017.exe” // AI Takeover, Censorship, Snow Crash & the Tower of Babel

Podcast cover
Read more

It’s the first of October so you know what that means. It’s time to get a bit spooky. And who better to get spooky with than Tracy Twyman. Because I’ll tell ya, every time I listen to her talk, I get the bejesus scared out of me. She’s real, she’s raw, and she brought something fierce here.

Of course, Tracy needs no introduction. She’s been here before in episode 58 to discuss her novel Genuflect and some of the wild ass ideas she threw in there. I’d recommend listening to that first if ya haven’t heard it yet. It’ll give some further context to this discussion. But not completely necessary.

Tracy’s had quite an interesting trip around the sun since then, though, and she will tell us all about it, or as much as she wanted to about it, and how she sees it all connecting inside this Metaverse we seem to be living in.

The one and only Thomas Sheridan is in the house. Thomas is the author of Sorcery: The Invocation of Strangeness, self-published recently on Lulu.com, and the book focuses on magic as a real force in the world employed by powerful people, as most of us overstand by now, but it’s an honest and practical approach to defending yourself against that force.

This is one of the best books on the subject I’ve read, and one of the most entertaining, because not only it is narrated by one of the most outspoken sorcerers you’ll find anywhere, it also contains a ton of awesome stories and anecdotes. And as Thomas describes himself in his Facebook profile, he has no interest in waking you up, he’s here to improve the quality of your dreaming. And hopefully after an hour (or two if you’re a patron), your dreams will be much improved.

Rank #17: 41. d8_thc in "Holofractal" // The Holographic Universe, Nassim Haramein, Sacred Geometry & Unifying Physics

Podcast cover
Read more

I suppose it’s the de facto end of the summertime, and the lovin’ may not be so easy as we head into the next part of our celestial cycle. With the eclipse aftermath and Mercury retrograde and the new moon, we’ve all been doing some heavy lifting recently. And this episode is direct reflection of that, because we’re doing some heavy lifting with my man Joe aka d8_thc. He’s the creator and one of the moderators of the /holofractal subreddit over at Reddit. Joe and I are gonna dig into the subject that inspired the creation of the subreddit, and that is the work of Nassim Haramein and the Resonance Project, which seeks to bridge the gap between science and spirituality and unify physics.

We’ll be talking the theory of the holographic universe and the differences between that and the standard model of physics. We’ll also hit on fractal geometry, the holographic theory as expressed in a story from Buddhist philosophy, the Music of the Spheres, how the human brain fits into this theory, the Bible, creation myths from the Dogon and the Egyptians, the Ark of the Covenant, crop circles, squaring the circle, and a bit of a teaser for a future episode that tackles Shakespeare’s connection to all of this.

So let’s light this mother up and cast this pod off into a space where the measurement of the internal far exceeds the measurement of the external. Enjoy.

Rank #18: 142. Occult Fan in “Bless This Immunity” // Esoteric & Occult Themes in TOOL’s Fear Inoculum

Podcast cover
Read more

The one and only Occult Fan, aka Nathan Lee Miller Foster, is back in the house for a third time. Nathan Lee is a musician, writer at OccultFan.com, and host of the Six of Swords podcast, and we are going to dig deep into a piece of art that was forged by four of the most marvelous magicians of our modern era. Collectively they are known as TOOL, one of the pre-eminent musical forces roaming the realm today. Their latest album, Fear Inoculum, is their first in 13 years. Highly anticipated by both fans and critics alike, and from the sounds of things, was well worth the wait.

But this is not a critical review of that album. This is a complete and total thematic deconstruction of what this album is about, song by song, image by image, even tweet by tweet, because this is a band that has become known for their meticulousness. Every riff, every polyrhythm, every lyric, every liner note, every visual set piece associated with their musical catalog is carefully curated and then deeply dissected by their fanbase, for better or for worse, but always in good fun and good faith.

Nathan Lee and I did this way back in episode 35 for another album by the band, so we figured, why not do it again and share it with all of you? Because, when we started to dig into this from a thematic standpoint, we found such a rich message laced with both apt cultural commentary and poignant interpersonal insight. It’s both a warning and a prescription, as any piece of good art is, and whether you know the band or not, or whether you’ve heard the music or not, it’s all kind of irrelevant for the purposes of this discussion, unless you want to completely comprehend all of Nathan Lee’s references that stem from his extensive knowledge of the band and their history.

Rank #19: 116. Dr. Al Cummins in “Dead Magicians” // The Lore & Spellcraft of the Magi & 17th Century Folk Necromancy

Podcast cover
Read more

It is with certain seasonal celebrations in mind that we welcome back the one and only Dr. Al Cummins. Al, of course, is a professional diviner and historian, as well as a poet and consultant of all things magical. He was here not too long ago, back at the beginning of October in episode 105 where we talked about geomancy, cartomancy and other forbidden arts. And what a great companion piece that is to this chat that you’re about to hear.

Al is going to rap about a book he published earlier this year called A Book of the Magi: Lore, Prayers and Spellcraft of the Three Holy Kings. And in the Patreon extension we’ll also get into one of those other forbidden arts - necromancy, particularly as it was practiced in 17th century England, which is a period Al has some serious interest in.

One note on the chat: a couple Skype dropouts, which I did not notice live, but nothing that detrimental to the quality of the audio or the conversation, which is a rather jolly one.

PATREON EXTENSION

  • Why Al is particularly interested in 17th century necromancy
  • Death rituals and customs from the time period
  • Sin eating

  • Working with corpses and humoral theory
  • The tripartite soul
  • The relationship between necromancy and scrying
  • Ghosts in early modern England
  • Practical necromantic advice

Podcast cover
Read more

Susie Chang and Mel Meleen are the wise and wonderful hosts of Fortune’s Wheelhouse, one of my favorite podcasts.

Susie and Mel are in the midst of breaking down the esoteric correspondences of all 78 tarot cards found in the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, Aleister Crowley’s Thoth deck and Mel’s own Tabula Mundi deck. They’re looking at the cards and telling us how symbols from Hermeticism, kabbalah and astrology are incorporated into the cards, as well as other correspondences like the Golden Dawn color scales, musical notes and scents and smells.

It’s a fascinating and informative podcast, and I couldn’t be happier to have them here. We’re gonna talk some tarot, the quartered cross, the history of cartomancy and other oracular games. There’s even some Lebowski thrown in for good measure, and we give you guys a taste of how Mel and Susie break down these esoteric correspondences by doing a one-card reading for yours truly.
