What tends to happen is that people replay situations or moments in time where they made mistakes, said something they should not have, stressed over things that never happened, or they took actions that they knew that they should never have done. Replaying these situations does not serve you. It only causes pain, grief, loss, shame, and guilt. Worrying about them is useless. People often think worrying about something gives you power to alter the course. Worrying does not involve action; without action things do not change. Letting go of these situations can be challenging especially when the situation defined who you were. This vision of what was and what was to be. Life circumstances change. You may have been shaped by an experience but you are not the experience itself. Forgive others and then yourself. Realize that everyone is on their own journey with their own lessons to be learned. We are all human and can make mistakes. Trouble starts when you put people up on pedestals or romanticize our view of who they are and what they do for you. When they fail to meet expectations or make mistakes, you can get frustrated or angry. They suddenly have fallen off the pedestal that you perched them up on. Forgive them – they are learning their way in the world and hopefully learning from their mistakes like you are. Practice forgiving those who have hurt you in relationships, friendship, or family members through childhood. For there is a phrase, “forgive them for they know not what they do.” Most people do not make a point of wanting to hurt someone intentional. They do not always know if they have hurt or offended someone. Seek to understand and forgive them. When you are forgiving to others, they will be more forgiving to you. Focus on the present to step into your future. Stop being a victim of your past and focus on the here and now. Pay attention to what you can control and realize that there may be some things you will not be able to control but you may have influence. Shift from thinking things happen to you versus for you. Everything in life happens for a reason. Some people are here to teach us lesson and others you are the teacher. You have probably heard the phrase, “When the student is ready the teacher will appear.” Shift your attention and focus away from yourself to others. Ask yourself, “In 5 years, 10 years, or 20 years, will the stress I am experiencing right now matter? Often, it does not. Learn to see what happens for you as a blessing in disguise protecting you from future heartache and pain. Change your perception of a situation by asking questions and challenging your assumptions and beliefs, Learn something new. Instead of focusing in on your personal situation and the pain you may be experiencing, focus outward. Volunteer or find a way to serve others. Change your actions if you do not like your current situation. You have a choice to keep things as they are, remove yourself from a situation, or accept it. Sometimes people stay in situations because they know nothing else so the accept the situation as is and live with it. Express yourself in a creative way. You may choose to blog, write, draw, or paint to express yourself. Keeping your emotions bottled up does not solve anything. Write a letter to someone expressing how you feel even if you do not send it. It allows you to tell that person how you feel and you can release some emotions you may have been keep inside. Letting go does not mean you will forget about your experiences. It means you realize that all things in life are temporary and that nothing is as permanent as it seems. Life can be fast and fleeting at times and at other times seem like it will last forever. By not having an attachment to outcomes, you will not struggle with letting go. What tends to happen is that people replay situations or moments in time where they made mistakes, said something they should not have, stressed over things that never happened, or they took actions that they knew that they should never have done. Replaying these situations does not serve you. It only causes pain, grief, loss, shame, and guilt. Worrying about them is useless. People often think worrying about something gives you power to alter the course. Worrying does not involve action; without action things do not change. Letting go of these situations can be challenging especially when the situation defined who you were. This vision of what was and what was to be. Life circumstances change. You may have been shaped by an experience but you are not the experience itself. Forgive others and then yourself. Realize that everyone is on their own journey with their own lessons to be learned. We are all human and can make mistakes. Trouble starts when you put people up on pedestals or romanticize our view of who they are and what they do for you. When they fail to meet expectations or make mistakes, you can get frustrated or angry. They suddenly have fallen off the pedestal that you perched them up on. Forgive them – they are learning their way in the world and hopefully learning from their mistakes like you are. Practice forgiving those who have hurt you in relationships, friendship, or family members through childhood. For there is a phrase, “forgive them for they know not what they do.” Most people do not make a point of wanting to hurt someone intentional. They do not always know if they have hurt or offended someone. Seek to understand and forgive them. When you are forgiving to others, they will be more forgiving to you. Focus on the present to step into your future. Stop being a victim of your past and focus on the here and now. Pay attention to what you can control and realize that there may be some things you will not be able to control but you may have influence. Shift from thinking things happen to you versus for you. If you find your here and now intolerable and it makes you unhappy, you have three options: remove yourself from the situation, change it, or accept it totally. If you want to take responsibility for your life, you must choose one of those three options, and you must choose now. Then accept the consequences.” – Eckart Tolle   There are times in life, in business, or your career where you feel life is happening to you versus for you. How do you know if you are stuck in one of those times? When you are stuck, you get caught up in assigning blame to others, complain about what’s not going right, and you make excuses for not getting the results that you want. You are viewing the world from a place of lack or scarcity. You have negative self-talk and you catch yourself falling into a negative spiral of emotion. You stop taking actions because you figure there is no point. It can be a tough place to be. Everything can change when you decide to make a change. The smallest change in making intentional choices in different aspects of your life can make the biggest shifts. If you decide to be more conscious of your spending or food choices or preparation, chances are you will save money and eat out less. If you start to build and nurture relationships, you will be long lasting connections. If you decide to walk among the people you lead and take interest in them, they will take interest in you. It all starts with intention. When you start to shift your thinking from the belief that other people are responsible for making the change or creating what you want (they owe you – NO RESPONSIBILITY) to realizing you are the one who has the control. Taking responsibility means you are taking control. That’s when the real power comes into play. You have more power than you realize and give yourself credit for. Start giving yourself permission to create a life or business you really want and believe you deserve it!   NO RESPONSIBILITY = NO POWER REAL RESPONSIBILITY = REAL POWER  If you want to create more success in your life, you need to take 100% responsibility for all you experience. It starts with no complaining, no blaming, or finding excuses for why you are not getting the results you want. It’s easy to celebrate the great things and not so easy to learn from things that did not go as planned – because sometimes it stings. The question you need to ask yourself is, “What could I have done differently to get the results I wanted?” Pay attention to what you are thinking and how you feel. Focus on the actions to get results. It is not someone else’s job to deliver the results you want. You are responsible for everything from your achievements, education, personal relationships, your finances, and your thoughts and feelings. You create your results. You are not responsible for the way others react or respond. You are responsible for you! Some people would rather avoid responsibility as it adds extra pressure and expectation – and of course, effort. They do not want to put in the hard work required to get the results. When you are focused on the penalties – less TV time, less sports time, less social time, spend some money, and the list goes on, you will not take action. Although sacrifice is temporary, it feels like something is taken away versus helping you get closer to the goal. Time for a reframe. Otherwise, maybe you do not want it as badly as you say you do. When this happens, it is a great time to investigate a bit deeper. You could be trapped in the fear of success. You are probably thinking – “Don’t I want success?” People tend to avoid taking the actions needed or they sabotage themselves because success comes with an increase in responsibility and expectation. They worry about how they will maintain or exceed the results they have achieved. There is a T-shirt saying that says, “Easy doesn’t make you proud.” You are most proud of the moments where you push through limits or adversity. Start taking responsibility by doing 3 things: Develop a Growth Mindset – Mistakes and failures are life’s greatest learning opportunities. Learn from them. What are the possibilities? Focus on solutions and you will find them. Focus on problems and you will see obstacles. Learn through trial and error, educate yourself, take a course, develop a new skill, and take on new roles. Share Your Voice – Quit holding back! Share your observations and opinions. Don’t complain. Come up with and offer suggestions or solutions to improve a situation. People are not mind-readers. When people complain, they often have a view of what they would like to see instead. Encourage them to share their thoughts without judgment. You – included. Set a Standard for Yourself – Raise the bar by continually challenging yourself to become better. Produce more. Be more efficient. Create more. Listen to podcasts and audiobooks. Read books. Expect more to achieve more. BONUS TIP: Above all, start taking action. EPISODE 200 – Being Busy versus Being Productive

Was it because you weren’t committed to your goals and dreams? You may be intentional with your actions here and there but you do not have a real plan. There is a change in your focus and attention when you actually write out your goals and dreams. People will brush off the action of writing out their goals but it works! Test it out; see how it works for you. Why Ink Your Commitments?  Writing out your goals using the S.M.A.R.T. (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Timely) helps you clarify what you want. Clarity is important. Describe your desired reality in vivid detail with pictures, photos, or drawings. It will be like you can see it actually happening. Ease in decision-making; you are able to filter out distractions easier by knowing whether the decision gets you closer or farther away from your goals A visual reminder to motivate you to act. Mapping out a plan that matches your goals helps you see your successes along the way. Ensure you are celebrating as you make progress this build momentum. Scribing out your goals and dreams suddenly makes them a possibility – real versus a fleeting thought in your head. Your goals/dreams will be easy to access having them written down. Automatic focus and attention on your goals otherwise you may simply forget about them.  Research has shown that you are more likely to achieve your goals and dreams by writing them down and reviewing them daily. I recommend twice a day if possible – morning and night. Did you know? Writing down your goals/dreams impacts your brain in different ways. When you THINK about your goals/dreams, you are accessing the right hemisphere of the brain – unlocking your imagination. Therefore, your brain is looking for a solution and all the “how’s” of getting things done.  Whereas, the mere inking the goal, activates the left hemisphere of the brain which is logic-based – again, looking for solutions. Together, this unlocks the subconscious mind – “seeing opportunities” because the subconscious mind does not know what is real or not real. Write It Down, Make It Happen As I was doing a Facebook Live on this topic, David Dorward shared his goal-setting method. He agreed about the importance of inking your commitments. He suggests getting a binder for a year with monthly tabs. Get a hole punch. Write things down and put them in the binder in the right month. At the start of the next month, review the last few months. Write a quick note to self about things went. Re-evaluate and rewrite goals. Same with financial for them in the home or a business. Put in the budget. Next month, evaluate, compare actual to the plan. Reassess and reset the budget etc. I want to encourage you to OWN your goals and dreams. Make the commitment to making them become a reality. You are not interested; you are committed. I want you to get a pen and paper and write down 1-3 goals using the SMART goal method. Don’t limit yourself by only writing down what you THINK is possible based on your current situation. It is too easy to lose sight of what is possible. Set a timer of 3 minutes to gently nudge you out of that comfort zone and get you writing the first one at least. Choose a goal/dream that you consider as a BIG HAIRY AUDACIOUS goal or “game-changer”. Accomplishing this goal would change the dynamics or events moving forward. Accelerate your success by reverse engineering your goals/dreams. Get super clear on what you want. Write out the SMART goal in detail – your vivid vision. Work backward writing down everything you need to do to make things happen. Review your goals daily. Before you know it, with consistent action, you will make those dreams a reality. Ninety-seven percent of what we do is by spontaneous habit. People can get frustrated with repeating the same practices over and over. They may get bored. They may think there is no room for spontaneity. Their minds do not excited after repeated exposure to content or activity yet repetition is a necessity. Repetition is the mother of skill which leads to mastery. If you want to develop success habits, you must repeat, practice, and develop your skills and a new way of thinking to develop new neuropathways in the brain. If you don’t practice, you will never master anything. Practice involves deliberate repetition. What Does Repetition Do? Repetition helps you master new skills and develop your abilities. You will improve in your speed and your confidence will increase. You strengthen connections in your brain. Repetition emphasizes key points. It helps you transition a skill from the conscious to the subconscious mind. Think of the first time you drove a car. Your focus and concentration were very deliberate in how you place your hands on the wheel, shoulder checked, or stepped on the gas. After years of driving, you probably do not give it much thought anymore. When you first start out doing things, they make seem awkward and uneasy but as you practice and rehearse – everything becomes easier. Repetition solidifies information in order to keep it in your memory for recall when you need it. Over time like an athlete, you will develop an intuitive understanding. A keen ability to feel how you are performing on any given day and what you need to do to sharpen your skills.  “An action by itself is insignificant but an action repeated every day is life-changing.”  ― Avina Celeste  How Do You Get Passed Boredom? Boredom can result from feeling empty, not challenged, limited attention span, or a lack of interest in activities around you. Your boredom may be attributed to taking things in life for granted. You need more. You want more. Boredom can be a wake-up call that you need to shake things up. When things get routine and you get bored, your dopamine levels drop. Dopamine is a chemical messenger in the brain that increases when we are excited about and anticipates new situations. We crave excitement to increase this chemical in our brains. Explore Your Boredom. Why are you bored? What can you do to increase excitement? Expand your learning on a subject? Can you make a game out of your repetition? Are you procrastinating from getting things done? Are you lacking motivation or inspiration to take consistent action? Stop over thinking about all the reasons you may be bored. Don’t force yourself to do something. Find a way to spice up your routine and energize the repetition involved. Challenge yourself to do new things – take up a new hobby. Travel – explore new lands and cultures. Expand your way of thinking. Sometimes it is best to allow yourself to be bored. Learning how to be versus “do” can be a good thing. Write in a journal and express your thoughts and share your story. The same things that raise your vibration will decrease your boredom. You can continue on your path to mastery through practice and repetition. You expand your level of knowledge by finding YouTube videos, articles, podcasts, and books to stimulate your brain and have you asking more questions on the subject you what to master.  “Never underestimate what you can accomplish when you believe in yourself.” (Unknown) [embedyt] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jtLgo_ulBAw[/embedyt] Growing up you may have heard sayings or phrases like, “Be humble.”, “Don’t brag.”, or “Don’t share your successes or accomplishments, you might make someone feel bad.” I do agree that being humble is an honorable trait. Remembering where you came from and being in awe of what you are capable of or how far you have come is important. Sharing your successes and accomplishments are important. You are only bragging when you are sharing with the intent to belittle someone or make someone feel inferior to you. Bragging is very different than celebrating. Celebrating others can share in the experience. I am dedicating this podcast to my friend, Stephanie, who caught me in a moment of conversation and said, “Deb, you are underestimating yourself.” The comment made me pause and ask, “Was I underestimating yourself?” With some self-reflection, I decided to create this podcast as I know I am more capable and step into a higher potential and, so can you? Let’s do this together! You will no longer play small. Here are some signs that you may be underestimating yourself: Compare Yourself to Others. You are constantly checking out Facebook or Instagram comparing people’s outside lives to yours. You may feel that your life is not as exciting or you’re stuck. You must remember people only post the good stuff. They are not going to post themselves all snotty nosed sick with a head cold…wait a minute I know some do – but rarely. You are at a different place on your journey and have had past experiences and learning that others have not. Every person is unique so there can be no comparison. When you see someone’s joyous moment or celebration. You see one moment in time, not the hours of sacrifice or the challenges they faced to get there. TAKE-AWAY: Focus on your story and your journey. You are the storyteller of your life. Don’t like what you are currently writing – change the story. Value Other People’s Opinions Over Your Own. You want everyone to like you. You may have been told growing up you needed to act, behave, or do certain things to gain approval from your parents or teachers. You wanted to please them so much that you made what they think more important than what you think. Eventually, you may have placed their opinions above your own. TAKE-AWAY: Learn to trust yourself and value your opinions and ideas. At the end of the day, you are the one who lives with your choices, not anyone else. Surrounding Yourself with the Wrong Influencers. You are hanging out with people who do not support or encourage you. They may judgmental and negative. They always seem to rant or vent about what has happened in their lives, “Can you believe it…?” Who you surround yourself with impacts how you think and what actions you will take. Are you taking stock of who you are hanging out with? Do they nudge you to become a better version of yourself or are they like a ball and chain attached to your leg? TAKE-AWAY: Take stock of who is in your circle of influence. You become the average of the 5 people you hang out with the most. Listening to Negative Self-Talk. There are 50,000 to 80,000 thoughts in a day with 80% of them being negative. When you put focus and attention on a negative thought, it can become a new belief impacting your perspective on things. Even if something does fail or you make a mistake, you must learn that it is necessary to make mistakes to learn from them. These lessons represent growth – the more you grow the better off you become in all areas of life. When a new situation or challenge comes up, you may shy away from or prevent yourself from doing anything because you think it will fail. You tell yourself, “I can’t do that. I can’t do this.”, “I am not smart enough.”, or “I am not _______ enough.” First of all who said and who made them the authority of you. And if it was you? Rethink what you said. If you plan and prepare, you can make things happen. I am a big fan of Dwayne Johnson and love watching videos of him at the Iron Paradise, he talks about “being the hardest worker in the room”. When you put in the work, you will reap rewards.   TAKE-AWAY: Challenge your negative self-talk. Is it really true? Make a list of your positive qualities and ask trusted family and friends to add in a few more. Acknowledge your successes by writing them down. Stacking success on success! Criticizing Yourself. We are our worst critics. We can find every flaw in a photo and identify all the reasons why something will not work out the way you want. Some of this criticism is harsh and you would never say those things to your best friend or neighbor. I recently did a photo shoot. I love to be in pictures however this time it was different. I invested in a photographer that I felt was high caliber and the people he worked with were too. I had all kinds of self-talk going through my head of all the reasons I could not be at that caliber. I push through this limit anyway. I was glad I did. I am of that caliber and continue to be a work in progress at the same time. I showed one person one of the photos and they said that is exactly how we see you. Wow! I thought…that was not what I had told myself. My perspective shifted. It’s amazing how what we see in ourselves is not always aligned with how other’s see us. I was reminded that you are the compass of how everyone around you views and treats you – lead by example. TAKE AWAY: When you start criticizing yourself, STOP and ask yourself, could I repeat or share these thoughts with another person? What do you think they would say to you? Would they be your friend? Accept compliments and offer them. Neglecting personal self-care. You can not serve others when you do not care for yourself. It is easy to get caught up in saying yes to everything. It is important that you are fueling your body, getting enough sleep, and ensuring you get enough exercise. TAKE-AWAY: Schedule in self-care time. Start treating yourself with the same respect and commitment you offer others. It is time to step up and step into your game. Deep down you know you can do whatever you put your mind to and believe. People around us need a renewed sense of hope. The only limits there are is the person staring back at them in the mirror. Dig deep and through the criticism, judgment, and negativity – trust yourself you know you can do it. Bet on Yourself – You already are winning! You are only bragging when you are sharing with the intent to belittle someone or make someone feel inferior to you. Bragging is very different than celebrating. Celebrating others can share in the experience. EPISODE 138 – Make It Difficult to Duplicate with Jerry Bigam

It is easy to point fingers and blame others for why things are not going the way you want them to. However, there are 3 fingers pointing back at you. That’s right! It is time to take 100% responsibility for what you are able to do. You can’t change other people…you may have tried to and noticed it doesn’t work and if you are still trying – quit hitting your head against the wall. Save your energy and focus on yourself. What is influencing you and your outcomes? How you perceive the world is not how others may perceive the world. As we take the time to learn about people and the world around us, we learn that we are more alike than different in some of our wants and dreams but there are also differences that have shaped who we are. These are our influences. We are influenced by internal and external influences. Little do we know that these influences are impacting how we respond or react to the world around us. Your influences impact how you think about your world and how you feel about your current reality. How you think and feel influences the actions you take and ultimately the results you will get. Some people will say they have no control over their influences yet there are so many actions you can take to control your influences. Let’s take a look at your influences! INTERNAL INFLUENCES Your internal influences have to do with your beliefs and values, biases, assumptions, negative self-talk, the language you speak (using empowering versus disempowering language), your mindset, “can’t vs can-do” attitude and the supportive or non-supportive stories you tell yourself about your present and past experiences. From a young child, you were taught traditions, values, taboos, and cultural norms. These cultural norms can be from society yet the biggest impact is the one in your home. You were taught what was expected and what was acceptable. You learned food habits, the way to dress, and family roles by what you learned. Although many of these may be considered external to an extent they represent your past experiences and how you have internalized these experiences. You can keep, challenge, or accept anything you choose.  “Whether you think you can or you can’t -you’re right.” – Henry Ford   What you believe is possible is what you will believe you can achieve. Recently, I proclaimed that one of my 2018 goals is to do 1 unassisted chin-up. I had heard that being able to a chin-up was challenging so I wanted to do one. I had done several chin-ups on an assisted chin-up machine that I was not sure I was ever going to be able to do one. I jumped up to a bar and could not hold myself for long that a few seconds. Then, I reached out to my fitness community and they provided some suggestion. The next time I went to the gym I set up the resistance band and got myself a block to stand on. I was able to do 5 chin-ups this way. I was so excited. Suddenly it felt real – I could really do this! What changed! My mindset around my capability. It was funny that I was speaking with someone and they said they were surprised I felt that way when they have seen me take on many fitness challenges and succeed. I needed to think about the stories I was and had been telling myself, “I was never a star athlete.”, “I am not fit enough to do one.” Once I challenged the story, I was open to learning how to make it happen. I do not need to be a star athlete to do a chin-up and I need to evaluate my definition of fit and grit. I have the grit and know how to make it happen. People from all shapes and sizes can do chin-ups. I can and I will! What is a belief or story that you have been telling yourself about something you want to do or have? Beliefs and stories are strong influencing factors. Our fears also play a critical role in the actions we take. There are many fears: rejection, failure, embarrassment, death, public speaking, and yes, even success. You are probably saying to yourself, “Why success?” I have found that the fear people fear most is the fear of uncertainty. What will success do to me and my current lifestyle? How will impact my relationships? People fear that they will not be able to handle what’s on the other side – consequences or rewards. I want to remind you that you have control over your choices and you are a resourceful person. You will figure it out!  Pay attention to the language you are using. Are you using language that conveys your message with conviction? Is it empowering? Start banning words and phrases that drain your energy:  Try – It sounds weak. Indecisive. Sitting on the fence – “Yeah, maybe.” Can’t – Can’t is actually choosing NOT to. Someday- a day that is not on the calendar – somewhere out there when the stars align. The right time is NOW. What if – Sounds doubtful and worrisome. Most things people worry about never happen! Wasted energy. I have to – You do not have to do anything. You either “choose to” or you “get to” – see it as a privilege Just – The word “just” before anything minimizes what comes after. Example, “I am just a nurse.” “I am just a mom.” Stand in your power – there is NO “just anything” I am not – You are disqualifying who you are and what you are capable of. Simply stating “I’m not enough.” Not true.  Use language and statements that empower you. “I am…”, “I will…”, “The time is NOW”, “I get to…”, or “I choose to…” for starters. You are more powerful and capable than you know. Speak with conviction and believe in yourself. EXTERNAL INFLUENCES Many of the external influences impacting you, you have control over as in time, frequency, and what you wish to allow into your mind and space. Media is one example that has influence. Television shows, video games, and movies can influence the way you look at and understand the world around you. The news, for example, tends to send negative messaging of gloom and doom. What you read and listen to also impact your thoughts and how you feel. Are you watching shows, reading books, or listening to podcasts that educate, empower, or inspire you?  Jim Rohn said, “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” Who are your top five? Sometimes you have to do a “friend-ectomy”. Take a look at your circle of influence the people you surround yourself with. Do they support and encourage you or do they attempt to sabotage your efforts? Sometimes these people are family members and you can not sever the tie. You can, however, limit the amount of time you spend with them, bring your concerns to their attention, or you can change the subject when they speak with you. Some people are toxic to your health and mindset. You have control over your environment- where you live, what you choose to do, and how you want to show up in the world. Do you live in clutter or organization? Is your life in chaos or calmness? All of these influences have an impact on how you think and feel and how you will act which ultimately impacts your outcomes. If you do not like the outcomes you are getting and the impact they are having in any of the areas of your life. It is time for a change. Change begins with reflection and self- awareness of what is not working and focusing on doing more of what is working. You can keep, challenge, or accept anything you choose. <blockquote> “Whether you think you can or you can’t -you’re right.” – Henry Ford </blockquote>  What you believe is possible is what you will believe you can achieve. Recently, I proclaimed that one of my 2018 goals is to do 1 unassisted chin-up. I had heard that being able to a chin-up was challenging so I wanted to do one. I had done several chin-ups on an assisted chin-up machine that I was not sure I was ever going to be able to do one. I jumped up to a bar and could not hold myself for long that a few seconds. Then, I reached out to my fitness community and they provided some suggestion. The next time I went to the gym I set up the resistance band and got myself a block to stand on. I was able to do 5 chin-ups this way. I was so excited. Suddenly it felt real – I could really do this! What changed! My mindset around my capability. It was funny that I was speaking with someone and they said they were surprised I felt that way when they have seen me take on many fitness challenges and succeed. I needed to think about the stories I was and had been telling myself, “I was never a star athlete.”, “I am not fit enough to do one.” Once I challenged the story, I was open to learning how to make it happen. I do not need to be a star athlete to do a chin-up and I need to evaluate my definition of fit and grit. I have the grit and know how to make it happen. People from all shapes and sizes can do chin-ups. I can and I will! What is a belief or story that you have been telling yourself about something you want to do or have? Beliefs and stories are strong influencing factors. Our fears also play a critical role in the actions we take. There are many fears: rejection, failure, embarrassment, death, public speaking, and yes, even success. You are probably saying to yourself, “Why success?” I have found that the fear people fear most is the fear of uncertainty. What will success do to me and my current lifestyle? How will impact my relationships? People fear that they will not be able to handle what’s on the other side – consequences or rewards. I want to remind you that you have control over your choices and you are a resourceful person. You will figure it out! Pay attention to the language you are using. Are you using language that conveys your message with conviction? Is it empowering? Start banning words and phrases that drain your energy: <ol> <li>Try – It sounds weak. Indecisive. Sitting on the fence – “Yeah, maybe.”</li> <li>Can’t – Can’t is actually choosing NOT to.</li> <li>Someday- a day that is not on the calendar – somewhere out there when the stars align. The right time is NOW.</li> <li>What if – Sounds doubtful and worrisome. Most things people worry about never happen! Wasted energy.</li> <li>I have to – You do not have to do anything. You either “choose to” or you “get to” – see it as a privilege</li> <li>Just – The word “just” before anything minimizes what comes after. Example, “I am just a nurse.” “I am just a mom.” Stand in your power – there is NO “just anything”</li> <li>I am not – You are disqualifying who you are and what you are capable of. Simply stating “I’m not enough.” Not true.</li> </ol> Use language and statements that empower you. “I am…”, “I will…”, “The time is NOW”, “I get to…”, or “I choose to…” for starters. You are more powerful and capable than you know. Speak with conviction and believe in yourself. EXTERNAL INFLUENCES Many of the external influences impacting you, you have control over as in time, frequency, and what you wish to allow into your mind and space. Media is one example that has influence. Television shows, video games, and movies can influence the way you look at and understand the world around you. The news, for example, tends to send negative messaging of gloom and doom. What you read and listen to also impact your thoughts and how you feel. Are you watching shows, reading books, or listening to podcasts that educate, empower, or inspire you?  Jim Rohn said, “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” Who are your top five? Sometimes you have to do a “friend-ectomy”. Take a look at your circle of influence the people you surround yourself with. Do they support and encourage you or do they attempt to sabotage your efforts? Sometimes these people are family members and you can not sever the tie. You can, however, limit the amount of time you spend with them, bring your concerns to their attention, or you can change the subject when they speak with you. Some people are toxic to your health and mindset. You have control over your environment- where you live, what you choose to do, and how you want to show up in the world. Do you live in clutter or organization? Is your life in chaos or calmness? All of these influences have an impact on how you think and feel and how you will act which ultimately impacts your outcomes. If you do not like the outcomes you are getting and the impact they are having in any of the areas of your life. It is time for a change. Change begins with reflection and self- awareness of what is not working and focusing on doing more of what is working. I have been studying personal development for decades and it always fascinates me to learn the success habits of powerful people in life, leadership, and business. I love learning about how people grow and transform their lives. Success leaves clues so it is important to pay attention. Over the years, I have adapted and adjusted my routines to find out work best for me. If I made you pause over the last statement – great! I changed my routines to create new habits. There is a difference between habits and routines. Routine When you have a routine, you have a set of habits. You have a regular way of doing things. A routine requires that you think about you are doing and can take a lot of energy in the beginning. Don’t worry you won’t expend too much energy once it is established. Once you build the routine it will eventually become unconscious. Habits  Habits are those continual set of behaviors; a repeated way in which you do things. You often do not even think about it. They are very important to adding structure too often a chaotic schedule of needing to do many things or be several places. You will notice that as children we thrived on structure and routines. As we became adults, we were exposed to new things – some serving us and some not. When you get into the habit of doing things a certain way it is easy to become comfortable. Staying in this place can get people stuck and dissatisfied with the way things are. There is no challenge. Even the greatest athletes have learned to change things up – to fine-tune their skills. Tiger Woods would change up his swing. Wayne Gretzky would change up the way he skated on the ice. You only grow on the outside of your comfort zone. Growth comes from new experiences and lessons. If everything stays the same, how will you grow? Create a 21-day challenge for yourself to do one thing every day that will challenge you. Stepping out of your comfort zone exposes you to a new experience in which you see things from a different perspective, challenge assumptions, and stretch into your potential. You may take bigger calculated risks. According to researchers, it takes 21- 66 days to change or create a new habit. It all starts with your routines. Examine how your day looks. What do you do each day to set up you day for success? I know some of you are shouting coffee – “I can’t start the day without coffee?” Take some time to think about routines you have in place. What do you do without even thinking about it? For example, some people have a smoke after every meal. They may have been doing this for years. It is something they “just do” after eating. It became a routine. Change up the routine and you can then change the habit. Stop smoking after meals; change the activity. Maybe you go for a short walk instead. If you have a habit of retail therapy and the mall is your trigger to spend. Go with a list or a free-standing store instead if hitting the store up in the mall. Go with a shopping with a specific list or a certain amount of money. Do not take your credit cards with you. Change the association, change the routine, and change the habit. How you start your day is often how you end it. Start by creating a morning routine and schedule that serves you.  Spend time in silence and clear your head. You may decide to meditate or pray. You are open and ready when you are in a state of calmness. Repeat powerful affirmations, watch an empowering video or listen to a podcast to get your head in the game. Write down 3 things you are grateful for? Why not send out a gratitude card? Journal your thoughts, trials, and tribulations to gain a clear perspective of the supportive and non-supportive stories you may be telling yourself. Let your mind wonder over possibilities and look for solutions. Visualize and focus on the outcomes you want to achieve. Feel what it will feel like to achieve those things. What do you need to do to become, do, or have those things you visualize? Ensure you are getting regular exercise – get the blood flowing throughout your body. Read or listen to a book in your industry or personal development. Create new routines establishes habits that serve you. Set yourself up for success. Become self-aware of what habits are serving you and which ones are not serving you. Where do these habits show up? Which routines? Change up the routine. Suppose you are an entrepreneur and you put all you receipts in a shoebox and year end you gather and organize them and give them to the accountant. How do you know how much money you have on a regular basis? You make better decisions when you know the flow of money coming in and the flow of money going out. To change routine, you could keep a spreadsheet and set aside part of a day or a day to focus on working with your numbers every week. You could hire a bookkeeper and set aside time to scan over or turn in your receipts. Break the habit, swap the habit, create a new habit by changing up your routine.
