What have we done to our children?  And why do we human’s keep doing the same thing over and over somehow expecting a different result? (I’d credit Einstein but it turns out he never said this).  These were the first thoughts that went through my head when I was talking to Sina Fak.  The answer to the first question is we’ve done to our children what our parents did to us. They put us into boxes (schools), told us to memories textbooks, and most of all to follow rules.The outcome was predictable. As young adults most of us didn’t have the slightest idea of what really mattered to us. So we ended up making decisions without any direction, attaching ourselves to outcomes that we’d been told were important, only to end up feeling empty, confused, and frustrated.   For some of us things changed when we were shaken by an infrastructure rattling event like a heart attack, a divorce, or the death of a loved one. Sadly many others will go through life suffering through dull pains without ever addressing them. What have we done to our children? And why do we human’s keep doing the same thing over and over somehow expecting a different result? (I’d credit Einstein but it turns out he never said this). These were the first thoughts that went through my head when I was talking to Sina Fak. The answer to the first question is we’ve done to our children what our parents did to us. They put us into boxes (schools), told us to memories textbooks, and most of all to follow rules. The outcome was predictable. As young adults most of us didn’t have the slightest idea of what really mattered to us. So we ended up making decisions without any direction, attaching ourselves to outcomes that we’d been told were important, only to end up feeling empty, confused, and frustrated.   For some of us things changed when we were shaken by an infrastructure rattling event like a heart attack, a divorce, or the death of a loved one. Sadly many others will go through life suffering through dull pains without ever addressing them. Tabitha Cavanagh a.k.a. Tab The Recruiter is a Sales &amp; Marketing recruiter, public speaker, a colon cancer survivor and a kickass mom. Tabitha is determined to live life on her terms and to set the best possible example she can for her daughter. At age 31 Tabitha was diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer. She had only been married for 4 months and her daughter was not even two years old. It’s the kind of news that can bring a lot of people to their knees. Not Tabitha. I could just feel the fierceness in her voice when she explained that there was no way anyone was going to take her away from her family.  In this conversation we went deep into the impact cancer had on her mindset. I’ll give you a hint. Tabitha makes it clear that cancer changes what we see as a problem. She also makes it clear that her focus is on enjoying every minute that she has, and not stressing over getting more time.  As a parent Tabitha knows that the best way she can teach her daughter is to live be example. You won’t find a disconnect between the advice she has for her daughter and the way she lives her life. Sean Douglas is a prolific public speaker, TedX speaker, International Radio Show Host, Author, and a Resilience Coach. He is also active in the United States Air Force. It’s fair to say that Sean has a lot on the go. This episode is going to resonate with Veterans, members of the military, as well as their family and friends. BarBend has raised $825,000 in seed funding. After leaving the military Eric “Doc” Wright wandered around in the job desert for 12 years. He chased degrees, certifications, and titles, amassing handfuls of each, piles of student debt, but always hearing he had the wrong ones, or not enough experience, to do what he wanted; to do what he knew he was capable of from reviewing the job descriptions! Then he figured it out! He wasn't framing what he had done and what he was capable of doing in the new context of what he could do for a civilian employer he entered the world of project management.  Eric quickly realized that his new career provided much more than a paycheck.  It provided what he had really been missing to his very core; a sense of purpose and identity.  In 2014 Eric co-founded Vets2PM, a company that helps Military Veterans become civilian Project Managers. In 2017 Eric founded Vet Stone (an intentional play on the Roseta Stone).  Vet Stone provides Veterans with a modern, relevant, technology-based tool to capture and convey the immense value of their obscure, informal secondary military occupation experience. Recognized as a High-Impact employee for 3 years in a row with a steady progression in roles where he played a part in adding more than $1.5B in revenue. He’s delivered over 2000 presentations on productivity, collaboration, and employee engagement. Mark also has 15 years experience as a sales trainer. And in his spare time he has successfully summited two mountains. In 2017 Mark left the corporate world and started his own company called Present Your Success. Jason Van Camp

Jason Van Camp is the Founder and CEO Mission 6 Zero, Founder and Executive Director of Warrior Rising, and co-author of a book titled Deliberate Discomfort. He is also a West Point graduate where he played linebacker for the Army Black Knights football team. In 2006, Jason won the coveted Green Beret and began serving as a Detachment Commander with 10th Special Forces Group in Fort Carson, Colorado.  During his U.S. Army career, Jason earned several awards, including the Bronze Star with V device for Valor, as well as two additional Bronze Stars during numerous combat rotations as a Special Forces Detachment Commander in the Middle East and Africa. Welcome to Episode 2 of the Mind Games solo series on the Screw the Naysayers Podcast.  Today’s episode is titled, Whose Dream are You Chasing? I start with a short reading from my book (with a couple of tweaks). It talks about a time in my life when I was living a lie. From the outside looking in I had it all. Inside I was dying. I was killing myself with destructive habits, an absent father and a lousy husband, and right on the verge of a complete mental breakdown. Looking back, had I continued on this path, I sincerely believe that I would have been dead or  divorced within five years. Probably both, and probably sooner. People often ask me how I let things get this bad? Truth is I was confused about what was causing my unhappiness. Most of the time I thought there must be something wrong with me. I had everything I’d set out to achieve, so if I wasn’t happy I must be defective in some way. And even when I did figured out what the real problem was, my mind kept telling me I must be wrong. I couldn’t have been that stupid.  Turns out I was doing what so many of us do. I was chasing goals other people had set for me.
