Distraction, disruption and other people’s demands are flooding our minds on the daily. It’s on an all time high. And it’s not getting better, it’s getting worse. Whatever social media or news outlet you consume, the friends, family or community you listen to will strongly influence the narrative you choose to believe... How do you evaluate what to focus on? How do you decide what is important? What to give your attention? Today if we want to accomplish something meaningful, if we want to sustain our energy and be inspired and stay inspired we want to be in charge of our focus and be very selective of where we put our attention. We cannot let the environment, or our government, or small minded people living in fear dictate or control our future. You and I are here to fulfil on our mission, our purpose, whatever that may be, and we only have the time we’re given. And the clock is ticking.  Take control of your time and focus or someone else will. Focus is a finite resource. It requires precision. Everything does not have equal value. Which is WHY you want to be selective. Go too wide, focus on too much and you’re slow. And slow is dead. Building a successful business and designing a fulfilling life requires that you know what you want, that you have clarity on what matters and equally important, on what doesn’t matter. What things do you say, “yes” to… and what do you say, “no” to? With some careful and dedicated thoughtfulness you will be able to predict your future because your yes’s and no’s will take you down a certain path.  The one you want or the one you don’t.   As a designer of your future where you can create more wealth, have a bigger impact on the people around you and create a deeper meaning for your life you want to become a master of removing unnecessary friction.

The shift in thinking I had in my early 20’s is more relevant now than ever...   The mistake the average person makes that separates many entrepreneurs is that they are not looking to avoid problems. They understand that problems are a part of life. And problems are there to be solved.   Share this with those who could use a NEW perspective or a reminder of what is truly normal...    Transcription: In my early twenties I made a very important decision. It was a pivotal moment. It’s one of those moments that changes your life. I decided to not end my life. I decided to live.  Maybe your life didn’t make such drastic turns or maybe it’s been worse. Either way, I decided I wanted to be in charge of my life and I didn’t want to be confined to a boxed life and live according to other people’s norms.  I wanted to pave my own path. I wanted to create a life on my terms, not a life that was dictated to me by the limitations of others.  I wanted to earn as much as I wanted and not be limited by the value someone else put on me. I wanted to use my energy, my skills and my expertise based on my values and what inspired me. I wanted to help people my way. I chose the entrepreneurial life. Being an entrepreneur has not been an easy life, but easy is also not the goal. In fact when you search for an easy life you will be faced with a life full of challenges. Not any kind of challenge but painful challenges… (also known as problems) On the other hand, when you seek out challenges that inspire you will be supported and life takes on a whole new meaning. This is how you grow a meaningful and inspiring life. The mistake the average person makes that separates many entrepreneurs is that they are not looking to avoid problems. They understand that problems are a part of life. And problems are there to be solved.  Every problem carries with it it’s counterpart solution. There’s no problem without a solution, just like there is no solution without a problem. Every problem births a new solution and every solution births a new problem.   That is what real business and entrepreneurship is all about… solving truly difficult problems that add real value to customers. When you learn to love this natural evolution of life, nothing beats owning your own successful business and being in charge of your life. Why did you choose the career path or business you’re in today?

Maybe you’ve felt the changes in the world impacting your life in more ways than one... Maybe you’ve stopped to think about WHO is important to you... Maybe you’ve reevaluated what really matters in your life... This is our way of inspiring ALL of us to live more, to unite and be in charge of our lives. Transcription: What you focus on and where you spend your time, what you accomplish or fail to accomplish will be determined by the peers you choose. I often say, “You’re either influencing or being influenced.” There is no in between. In other words, every moment you’re interacting with the world, you’re either influencing the thoughts, emotions and behaviors of others or they are influencing you. Which is WHY you want to select and pick a peer group, be part of a community that both supports and challenges you. Supports you to live in alignment with your values so you can express who you are more fully, and challenge you, inspire you to grow and expand to your next level of living.  It’s a natural part of evolution to want to grow and become more. Nobody wants to shrink, minimize or devalue who they are. Unless we’ve been living under a rock, we can all agree that the world has changed. I’m sure you have felt it, right? I know I have. Just a few minutes of conversation between us will reveal to me the narrative you’ve been consuming. If you have let fear or inspiration dictate your world. If you’re reactive or proactively creating your future. What are you watching? Who are you listening to? Fear will cripple you. Fear will compromise your immune system. Fear will have you abandon your dreams if you let it. Sometimes life and business can be a very lonely road. And if you’re trying to grow a business, create financial stability or build a healthy mind and body you want to be able to share those thoughts, struggles and opportunities with people who care. Let’s start today’s episode by defining what a badass is and what is it not… It’s not a postured, pretending, working really hard, “look at me, I’m so cool” attitude. A badass is Unapologetic, (it doesn’t mean not caring. It doesn’t mean they they’re not empathetic) They’re simply not going to minimize, tippy-toe, undervalue themselves just to make others feel more comfortable. They don’t see others as victims. They have a strong belief in humanity and human potential. They are resilient. Badasses go after what they want. Fearless (pay attention, I didn’t say they don’t have any fears. They fear less. Because they tap into who they are, and don’t question themselves all the time.) Badasses don’t settle (they don’t settle for mediocrity; a mediocre life, they don’t settle for a halfass; business, marriage, performance. They’re not interested in living “ok” life. Badasses, just like us, we don’t live according to other people’s beliefs and values, we carve out our own path. We’re leaders not followers. Badasses want to change things for the better… They are unshakeable, unwavering in their conviction, yet flexible and adaptable. Are you with me? Say it, I’m badass… come a little bit louder… Here’s the truth, as a badass you don’t have to say it. You just know. You own it. When I was five years old, I had a dream. I remember standing by this white picket fence at kindergarten in Stockholm Sweden. It’s a sunny afternoon, it’s springtime and I can smell that fresh air and it’s one of those first days where I could use sneakers and t-shirt after the cold Swedish winter and I’m looking as far as I could see. I’m looking at tree tops in the horizon and the sun glittering, thinking, “That must be America. One day I’m going to live there. I’m going to have a blonde wife and she’s going to sit next to me while I’m driving my sports car.” What I was looking at what probably was ten minutes away. I wanted that dream so bad. I wanted to live in America so I could be cool. I wanted to be a badass. Friday nights was my favorite, because I would sit on the floor with my candy, my cowboy and Indian toys, watching The Macahans (watching Luke and Zeb Macahans played by Bruce Boxleitner and James Arness ) Kojak with Telly Savalas, Baretta the detective series played by Robert Blake. These guys were badasses. They were heroes, always trying to help the underdog. Growing up I was struggling with people trying to always play inside the box, playing inside the rules of mediocrity. People were careful, tippy-toeing and being apologetic. Nobody wanted to stand out. I had a real problem with that (didn’t know why then) because people were just trying to fit into the mold and not be themselves. What made it worse, was when people would say, “Let them win, you don’t have win all the time.” I felt like I had to play small, so others wouldn’t feel less than. Rather  than everyone challenging each other to get better. Our nature is to compete. And I see that in my kids all the time, it’s natural. They don’t wake up in the morning thinking, “How can lose today” It’s the adults that get uncomfortable. Treating their kids like they are weak and defective. The problem wasn’t that there were others that were better, it was that I had to go against my nature and be smaller. Something amazing happened when I was training Martial Arts and playing guitar, because I noticed that I could always compete with myself, I could always push my own limits. I could always challenge myself to get better. I decided I was going to be the best. In my Karate classes I practiced harder. When I was a young teenager I secretly pushed to kick harder and faster than the adults. When they did 20 push ups I did 40. When they do a kick and punch combination I would finish before they even started. I would do anything I could to find something help me grow and get better. Because I realized that training with people that were better than me was how I was going to get better. I did the same with my guitar practice. I would seek out the best guitar players, I would play to their records, and imitate what they did so I could play like them. I would practice guitar 5-6 hours a day. I would fall asleep in the couch with my guitar in my lap. My friends would tell me, “come on man, chill, just come and hang out, don’t you get bored training all the time. You have to have some fun.” Playing and training and seeing progress, was fun to me. Because I value connection and friendships, I would go out and party. Playing and training was so much better than waking up at 2pm with a massive hangover. For almost 10 years I stopped pursuing, Martial Arts, I only played guitar when it was convenient and stopped focusing on my dreams. When I finally decided to pursue my childhood dream that I had as a 5-year old (to live in America) I was 23 years old. When I landed at LAX (Los Angeles International Airport) and I put my foot on US soil, I felt I was home for the very first time in my life. 9 months later I was a world champion in Karate. Within a year I had a successful martial arts school, and not only was I able to support myself financially through my art, I was also be able to change lives, families, and share my gift. In the end all this meant, had I continued to accept mediocrity, had I continued to play small, and demand less of myself than I knew I was capable of, I would’ve never fulfilled on my dream. I would’ve never had the impact I have today, and you and I would’ve never have this conversation right now. A while back I had client an entrepreneurial mom of two, is struggling with how to raise her teenage son, “My son’s teacher is saying that my son is disruptive and that he pushes other kids’ buttons, challenging them, which they don’t like. And I can’t talk to him about it.” Her son is fighting her every word and just feels disdain for her. He’s a mirror of her husband. I can feel her pain and desperation. Something has to shift. “So, you’re taking the teachers side, trying to change your son and getting into conflicts with your son, right?” “Well, yes. It’s my job as a parent to teach him manners and how to behave.” “Actually no,” I interrupt her. “Your job as a parent is not to apologize for your son’s behavior, make him feel stupid for being himself. It’s to recognize your own fears showing up; thinking you’re a bad parent just because someone else feels uncomfortable.” She’s like,“What do you mean?” She’s kinda confused and surprised that I didn’t agree with her. “This is not an easy conversation to have, but an important one. A part of you is wanting to protect the teacher and other kids from your son’s ‘disrespect’ and ‘making’ other kids uncomfortable. That’s putting them in a victim position—underestimating their ability to handle challenging situations—making them fragile and painting a picture of your son as the villain. They don’t need your protection. More important, your son’s resentment and resistance to anything you have to say to him comes from the constant molding of his behavior, so it will make you look good as a parent.” We had a good relationship, and she knew I was only wanting to help her. We’re never going to know what we’re made of, who we are—or who others are—if we’re trying to protect ourselves and others from pain. How do I know you’re a badass? How do you claim and you own that you are? We live in a world of amateurs, a world of mediocracy. It’s crazy, it’s everywhere you go. Average expectation. Being average is the norm. Amateurs consistently perform at low levels. People today expect average performance, so when you do something different—own your value and your dark side—people wake up for a moment and say, “What’s going on here? This is different.” I believe it’s harder to be mediocre, than to be the best. It’s harder. It requires a lot more energy, a lot more focus, because you have to work hard to minimize yourself and play small. You were born a badass, alright? Do you think I’m kidding? It’s not a joke. You were designed to be the best, but you’ve been conditioned (trained) to forget your true nature. You may not remember that day. You ready.You’re wearing your best gear. You’re off to the race. You and 300 million other sperm—all designed to swim, but you won. Three hundred million to one, you get that? 300,000,000:1. You’ve forgotten about that, but you were born to win. And you were totally unapologetic about it. Then what happened? You worked most of your life, fighting to not stand out, fighting hard to be “good” so people would like and approve of you. You’ve fought really hard to forget about your nature. You’re designed to be a badass, no question about it. Whenever you try to work against your nature, it’s so much harder. Being mediocre is hard BECAUSE you have to be something you’re not. That’s hard. You’re fighting and using so much energy and focus on something you actually can’t even accomplish. You have to invent behaviors a new language patterns to be mediocre. You have to be hesitant, and uncomfortable, and questioning of yourself, and say things like, “It’s okay.” “I’ll try.” “I don’t know if I can do this.” You constantly question your ability and who you are. That’s exhausting. You have to work really hard to minimize, undervalue, and shrink yourself. When you choose to own that you are a badass, you’re going with nature. When you commit to be the best—to be yourself—there’s no competition, there’s zero competition, zero. Domination is the game. Here’s the problem: most people’s standards are way low because the expectations of themselves and of the people around them are low. “Oh, it’s okay. Don’t expect too much. Don’t ask too much of yourself. Don’t dream too big, because you may be disappointed.” I mean, this is the world we live in. That’s not growth. That’s death. We set standards where we shut off who we really are. A big problem is bad advice or bad coaching. Be highly selective of who you take your advice and coaching from. I only train with the best. I promise, it will save you years of pain and struggle. Another common problem is that we all spend way too much time, all of us, listening to others whining and complaining. This is not about positive thinking. I’m not talking about this from a place of being positive. I’m talking about understanding your nature and your design. That’s not positive, it’s just the truth. You were designed to fight. With that comes challenges, resistance, and battles to face, but that’s all part of nature. It’s all part of growth. Embrace it. You were designed to win. You were designed to succeed. Anything else, anything apart from that, is a lie. Only work with the best. Nobody with mediocre dreams or who’s settling for less than who they really are work with me. Why? Because amateurs recognize quickly that they’re not going to be able to hide. You see, I’m not asking you to be anything you’re not. I’m asking you to claim and own YOU. No apologies. What are you here to claim? What’s the thing you’re here to own? If you have it in your head right now, write it down. If you don’t, think about it. What’s the thing you want to be the best at? What’s the thing you want to dominate? What is the thing that’s going to separate you from all the mediocre people? Whatever you decide you want to master, whatever you say you want to claim, it’s yours. Amateurs give up way, way too early. You were not born that way. You were not born to give up. We’re here to fight for your dreams, each other’s dreams. When we fight together, dreams happen. The question is not, “Will they?” The question is just, “When will they?” This is why focus, precision based growth and productivity—being responsible for your time, respecting your time—is so important if we want to be unshakeable and own our inner badass. There are 31,000,536 seconds in a year. Each second counts. Understand, these are non-refundable seconds. Therefore, you got to manage your non-refundable seconds and don’t waste your time talking to people about crap. You and I have been called for greatness. To leave a legacy. How do I know? Because we wouldn’t be here otherwise, and you wouldn’t be listening to me right now unless you could recognize the truth. We’re present. Focused. We’re ruthless. Let’s embrace it. Own it every morning. There is no time to listen to the battle cry of amateurs. Prepare your mind, your thinking, your feelings, prepare your mission, what you’re about to go after. Because no one else will do that for you. Everyone else will try to have you not do those things because, in contrast, living in a mediocre world, you become a threat. Amateurs don’t want to feel uncomfortable, so they will try to minimize you. It doesn’t make them bad, just dangerous. Just like there are people in traffic that shouldn’t have a license, right? If you don’t pay attention, they’ll kill you. You must fight against that. This is a fight against mediocrity. Listen, I’m not trying to sound dramatic. I’m only wanting to remind you of the truth. If you don’t take care of the good bacteria, bad bacteria will take over. It’s as simple as that. You’ll find it everywhere. You will hear it in people’s victimhood statements. You will hear it in people diminishing what they believe they’re capable of. It’s like a bad virus. It really doesn’t require a lot to be a badass. It requires that you define what it is you want to own and consistently be doing that. That’s why the 5am or 6am is important, because that’s the time for you to prepare, to think, to mentally and emotionally, spiritually, physically get yourself ready. Of course, if you want to join the 5am club, you also need to have a 9 or 10pm club because you must rest. This is why so many fail at it. They’re not willing to adjust their sleep patterns. I’m not asking you to push; I’m asking you to thrive. I don’t believe it’s smart to go to bed at 2am and hope you’re going to be your best at 5am or 6am. That’s just not smart. Anybody can do it for a while, but we’re not after average results. We want you to be the best, and we want consistency. This is a long-term game. Therefore, we need you to be resilient. What’s a performance? That’s you doing what you do to make money. Being an amazing lover. Being the best parent. That’s you being on stage. Playing the game. That’s you being on a Facebook live sharing your message. That’s you delivering an outstanding webinar. That’s you being in a one-on-one conversation. Here’s why most people quit. People quit, not because they’re not able; not because they can’t achieve what they want. Most people quit because they don’t own their worth, so they have many emotional charges of guilt and shame loaded into their nervous system, loaded into their life. We don’t want to look bad. We don’t want to be disappointed and we don’t want to disappoint. I mean, how long are you going to face pain before you decide it’s not worth it? Most people give up quickly. They don’t give up because they can’t achieve what they want but because they have not been taught the truth and they believe a lie. Get clear on and become relentless about eliminating anything that slows you down. Get rid of it. Remove it from your life. Does this make sense? We’re here to fight mediocrity. Most people say they don’t want to fight anything, but the truth is, we can’t escape it. You can’t escape it. You’ve got to stand for something, claim this spot of whatever you want to dominate, and be ruthless about realizing it. Remember how I said in episode 2 how I realized that my mission is to end human suffering? Even if I don’t accomplish it all in this lifetime, someone else will pick up after me. But I want to be in the game. And you can do the same thing. You will inspire someone you mentor, someone you love, and someone will pick up after you. But nobody will pick up anything unless you stand for something and put the stake in the ground. What’s ONE thing we know is going to happen when we accept a goal, when we make a commitment, when we take something on? What’s predictable and guaranteed to happen? Failures, challenges, obstacles, lots of things are going to happen. Resistance is going to show up, but this is not a sign to stop or change the target or what you stand for. We don’t quit. That’s for amateurs. We don’t settle for targets that are less important or don’t matter as much to us just so we can feel competent. Why? Because when you settle, you will never feel satisfied. You kill the dream. Your commitment to your original plan will never work because you didn’t give it the focus, time, and dedication it needed. The biggest reason of all…you’ll never find out what you’re really made of, you won’t know your true potential. Most people, settle for something less a lot less than their real dream. Why? They don’t have to be disappointed if they don’t achieve what they want, and many times, don’t even believe they can achieve what they want. This is a distraction and guarantee you won’t achieve what you’re after. Because when you set a goal, when you set a target, when you go for it, just imagine how confusing it is for the brain when you’ve got some other target as well at the same time. Even if it’s in the background, you’re going to be distracted and pulled away from your commitment. You see, it’s like a missile programmed for a target. It’s going to have to go for ONE or the other. It can’t do both. Or like the famous saying goes…IF YOU CHASE TWO RABBITS then what? YOU WILL NOT CATCH EITHER ONE. Focus on what you’re here to accomplish. What do you want to go after, how you will demonstrate to yourself, that you’re not halfassing things? What do you want to claim? Now what? Go own your worth without ANY apologies. You were born a badass.  Description: Many people work hard to find balance and to navigate between family, business and their health. How do you find balance? Is it even possible? Is balance just a myth?  Listen as Satori coaches a woman through the struggles of growing her business and find fulfillment behind her work. --Transcript-- You don’t understand Satori, it’s really hard to build a business, to be a good parent, it’s such a struggle to juggle it all, how do I find balance? Hey what’s up my friends, Satori Mateu here and welcome to a Brand new episode of Halfass to Badass. Good morning, good evening, good afternoon wherever you are in listening right now… How do you find balance? Is it even possible? Is there such a thing? I was in a conversation with a client, and she says, “Satori, I get up early every morning to meditate, I make breakfast for the kids, get them ready for school, make sure they have snacks. I have to have everything ready in time so my husband can take them to school. After they leave the house, I put on a load of laundry, clean up the kitchen, vacuum quickly with my handheld because the kids leave a mess after breakfast. I then do my 20 min workout, take a quick shower and by 9am I am at my desk ready to start working on my business. As soon as I get started I’m on a roll and I’m focused, but then I hear the buzzer from the dryer. So I turn that off, throw the clothes in a basket so I can take care of it later. I get text messages from sister. I get notification from Instagram from people I follow. I get private messages on Facebook messenger from a people who are in my entrepreneur group and before I know it, it’s time for lunch and soon after that it’s time to go pick up my kids from school and take them to soccer practice and gymnastics. How am I supposed to get anything done? I feel I start getting momentum and then something comes and pulls me away.  I’ll come back to this conversation in just a moment but first… Let me ask you, how do you juggle all the moving parts of your life? Have you ever stopped and looked at what pulls for your attention? What are the disruptions, distractions and demands (which I call the 3D’s) in your life? How do you take command of your focus and create momentum in the midst of whirlwind? Here’s why this important. If you don’t take command of your focus and you let the 3D’s (disruptions, distractions and demands) run your life, your life will be like a ship without a captain and you won’t be able to weather the storm when it really matters. Is this making sense? If you don’t take command of your focus and fill your day with high priority activities that are meaningful to you, your life will be filled with low priority, stress inducing distractions that are meaningless. And who will pay for that? You will. Your kids will. Your spouse. Your clients. Are you following? You’ll feel stressed, overwhelmed, unfulfilled. Which can take the form of overeating, overdrinking, binge watching netflix, taking 20 min bathroom breaks with your phone numbing your brain with other people’s fantasy lives on social media. You may snap at the wrong people. You won’t be present in your key relationships, are you with me? And that’s just me scratching the surface of the consequences. Back to my conversation with my client… I say to her, “I understand you’re not getting the momentum you want. You’re not moving fast enough and you’re working hard to navigate all the parts of your life, right? Your family, your business, you meditate to take care of your-self. I get it. It’s now always easy. But let me ask you, Who’s life are you living?” “She’s like what do you mean?” “Well, who designed this life? Whose path is this? She got quiet for a moment… “I don’t know. Haven’t thought that.” “I understand, most people don’t. Is it ok if I share some life design strategies with you?” And so we started talking about it and the more we talked about she realized how non-consious, how undeliberate she was living. And she was blown away, the more she saw how she was living according to automatic social norms she had been conditioned to live by. Even though she was an entrepreneur growing her own business. She wasn’t working 9-5 for someone else, but still stuck in unconscious patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving. In other words, habits she had stopped paying attention to a long time ago. When we started looking at her patterns I asked her, “You told me earlier that you feel frustrated when you get messages and feel like you have to answer them right away. What would you have to believe in order to feel this way, what are your thoughts?” “That if I don’t answer right away, I’m rude. Disrespectful. And… That they’ll be upset with me.” “Aha, and how does that make you feel…?” “Even more stressed!?” She starts laughing. Sounds a little bit nervous.” And I said, “That’s right. Here’s what I want you to notice. You’re thinking, I don’t want to be rude. Disrespectful. I don’t want them to get mad at me. Be upset. Right? The moment you think that, you’re immediately sending a message to your brain, that sends a signal to your body making you feel just the way you think, and then your body sends a confirmation back to your brain saying, ‘yup that’s how you’re feeling’ and now you get even more thoughts. And you go, I’m so stressed. I have to respond… and you whip yourself in into an overwhelming loop that just keeps cycling, right? And this is NOT something new. True?” “That’s true. How do I get out of this? How do I stop it.” I said, “Great question. Here’s what I want you to get first. These loops; these thoughts, feelings and behavioral habits are just memorized patterns from your past of how you believe you ought to respond. And you do it perfectly without even having to think about it. It’s automatic. Are you with me? So therefore, your future won’t change. You’ll keep dragging your past into the future and reliving it. It will just become an exact replica of your past, and you’ll just keep triggering stress and survival hormones. Not useful if you want to live a fulfilling life and have a big impact. So the first thing we want to do is to start to deliberately pay close attention to number one, the thoughts, feelings and behaviors that keep repeating themselves. But you’re NOT here to analyze or judge or criticize yourself. Just to observe. I want you to be relentless in your curiosity about watching these habits happening. Got it?” “I got it.” “I said, it won’t be easy because the moment you go into any of these habits you’ll be seduced into the cascade of emotions which got you into trouble to begin with. And you’re so familiar with them because they’re normal to you and you may start justifying them to yourself. Just like an addict. So I want you text me or call me the moment it happens. Cool?” And she did. She was very focused to break these habits and give herself and her family an opportunity to a brand new future. Why am I sharing this with you? Because what my client and I did as we started to unravel these automatic patterns that caused so much stress and overwhelm and leaving her unfulfilled and not inspired by her amazing business she was building, is that she, like millions of others, was living by someone else’s norms. Someone’s else’s standard of how life “should” be like. Balance is not a place without friction, without challenges.  Balance is a place designed and birthed from your values, not based on the projections of other people’s values or social norms. How much you work. How much time you spend with your family. How you take care of your well being, could be questioned by everybody, but it has to come from you and your design. My life is not like anyone else’s. There may be similarities but it’s still fingerprint unique according to our values. We WorldSchool our kids. And in a future episode I’ll go deeper into what that means how we do it. We travel a lot. We can work from anywhere. We’re not tied to a particular place. But we do know we want to live where it’s sunny most of the time and has palm trees. Our team is also mobile. Most of our lunches and dinners we eat together. We work and travel together. It’s part of our kids schooling. I was not lucky or privileged. This is by design. This is how I wanted it to be. I didn’t want to work from home or in a remote office by myself and only see my kids and my wife for an hour at night.  We focus on the same thing I teach inside of our community which is our 3 core pillars. Family, business, self.( Self is our personal growth and physical well-being). This is what we keep focusing on. If it’s not contributing toward it, it’s usually not something we put a lot of energy toward. The biggest takeaway I want for you today is that there's no one life or one business that fits all...or some magic formula. Your life and business is your design. Can you pull inspiration from others? Of course. Just like cooking, there are lots of ingredients to choose from but you can mix in so many ways. Not only that, the ingredients and the amounts and spices will vary, even if you follow a recipe. That’s totally. The key? Don’t feel trapped or forced to follow or subordinate to someone else's expectations. You’re free to make it just the way you want it. Cool? Here’s what I want you do until we talk next time…  Start observing your habits. Specifically, your thoughts, emotions and behaviors that are limiting you or causing you to feel stressed. Just notice and be curious without judgement. Ask yourself, “If I didn’t feel stressed, or overwhelmed or worried about this, what would life be like? Whatever images or thoughts that are generated from the question, allow yourself to feel grateful and enjoy that future right here right now. Here’s what I would do to make sure you’re rewiring yourself and pruning the old thoughts. Set a time for 5 minutes and deliberately do this step 5 min before you go to sleep and 5 minutes when you wake up for the next 7 days. As soon as I get started I’m on a roll and I’m focused, but then I hear the buzzer from the dryer. So I turn that off, throw the clothes in a basket so I can take care of it later. I get text messages from sister. I get notification from Instagram from people I follow. I get private messages on Facebook messenger from a people who are in my entrepreneur group and before I know it, it’s time for lunch and soon after that it’s time to go pick up my kids from school and take them to soccer practice and gymnastics. How am I supposed to get anything done? I feel I start getting momentum and then something comes and pulls me away.  I’ll come back to this conversation in just a moment but first… Let me ask you, how do you juggle all the moving parts of your life? Have you ever stopped and looked at what pulls for your attention? What are the disruptions, distractions and demands (which I call the 3D’s) in your life? How do you take command of your focus and create momentum in the midst of whirlwind? Here’s why this important. If you don’t take command of your focus and you let the 3D’s (disruptions, distractions and demands) run your life, your life will be like a ship without a captain and you won’t be able to weather the storm when it really matters. Is this making sense? If you don’t take command of your focus and fill your day with high priority activities that are meaningful to you, your life will be filled with low priority, stress inducing distractions that are meaningless. And who will pay for that? You will. Your kids will. Your spouse. Your clients. Are you following? You’ll feel stressed, overwhelmed, unfulfilled. Which can take the form of overeating, overdrinking, binge watching netflix, taking 20 min bathroom breaks with your phone numbing your brain with other people’s fantasy lives on social media. You may snap at the wrong people. You won’t be present in your key relationships, are you with me? And that’s just me scratching the surface of the consequences. Back to my conversation with my client… I say to her, “I understand you’re not getting the momentum you want. You’re not moving fast enough and you’re working hard to navigate all the parts of your life, right? Your family, your business, you meditate to take care of your-self. I get it. It’s now always easy. But let me ask you, Who’s life are you living?” “She’s like what do you mean?” “Well, who designed this life? Whose path is this? She got quiet for a moment… “I don’t know. Haven’t thought that.” “I understand, most people don’t. Is it ok if I share some life design strategies with you?” And so we started talking about it and the more we talked about she realized how non-consious, how undeliberate she was living. And she was blown away, the more she saw how she was living according to automatic social norms she had been conditioned to live by. Even though she was an entrepreneur growing her own business. She wasn’t working 9-5 for someone else, but still stuck in unconscious patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving. In other words, habits she had stopped paying attention to a long time ago. When we started looking at her patterns I asked her, “You told me earlier that you feel frustrated when you get messages and feel like you have to answer them right away. What would you have to believe in order to feel this way, what are your thoughts?” “That if I don’t answer right away, I’m rude. Disrespectful. And… That they’ll be upset with me.” “Aha, and how does that make you feel…?” “Even more stressed!?” She starts laughing. Sounds a little bit nervous.” And I said, “That’s right. Here’s what I want you to notice. You’re thinking, I don’t want to be rude. Disrespectful. I don’t want them to get mad at me. Be upset. Right? The moment you think that, you’re immediately sending a message to your brain, that sends a signal to your body making you feel just the way you think, and then your body sends a confirmation back to your brain saying, ‘yup that’s how you’re feeling’ and now you get even more thoughts. And you go, I’m so stressed. I have to respond… and you whip yourself in into an overwhelming loop that just keeps cycling, right? And this is NOT something new. True?” “That’s true. How do I get out of this? How do I stop it.” I said, “Great question. Here’s what I want you to get first. These loops; these thoughts, feelings and behavioral habits are just memorized patterns from your past of how you believe you ought to respond. And you do it perfectly without even having to think about it. It’s automatic. Are you with me? So therefore, your future won’t change. You’ll keep dragging your past into the future and reliving it. It will just become an exact replica of your past, and you’ll just keep triggering stress and survival hormones. Not useful if you want to live a fulfilling life and have a big impact. So the first thing we want to do is to start to deliberately pay close attention to number one, the thoughts, feelings and behaviors that keep repeating themselves. But you’re NOT here to analyze or judge or criticize yourself. Just to observe. I want you to be relentless in your curiosity about watching these habits happening. Got it?” “I got it.” “I said, it won’t be easy because the moment you go into any of these habits you’ll be seduced into the cascade of emotions which got you into trouble to begin with. And you’re so familiar with them because they’re normal to you and you may start justifying them to yourself. Just like an addict. So I want you text me or call me the moment it happens. Cool?” And she did. She was very focused to break these habits and give herself and her family an opportunity to a brand new future. Why am I sharing this with you? Because what my client and I did as we started to unravel these automatic patterns that caused so much stress and overwhelm and leaving her unfulfilled and not inspired by her amazing business she was building, is that she, like millions of others, was living by someone else’s norms. Someone’s else’s standard of how life “should” be like. Balance is not a place without friction, without challenges.  Balance is a place designed and birthed from your values, not based on the projections of other people’s values or social norms. How much you work. How much time you spend with your family. How you take care of your well being, could be questioned by everybody, but it has to come from you and your design. My life is not like anyone else’s. There may be similarities but it’s still fingerprint unique according to our values. We WorldSchool our kids. And in a future episode I’ll go deeper into what that means how we do it. We travel a lot. We can work from anywhere. We’re not tied to a particular place. But we do know we want to live where it’s sunny most of the time and has palm trees. Our team is also mobile. Most of our lunches and dinners we eat together. We work and travel together. It’s part of our kids schooling. I was not lucky or privileged. This is by design. This is how I wanted it to be. I didn’t want to work from home or in a remote office by myself and only see my kids and my wife for an hour at night.  We focus on the same thing I teach inside of our community which is our 3 core pillars. Family, business, self.( Self is our personal growth and physical well-being). This is what we keep focusing on. If it’s not contributing toward it, it’s usually not something we put a lot of energy toward. The biggest takeaway I want for you today is that there's no one life or one business that fits all...or some magic formula. Your life and business is your design. Can you pull inspiration from others? Of course. Just like cooking, there are lots of ingredients to choose from but you can mix in so many ways. Not only that, the ingredients and the amounts and spices will vary, even if you follow a recipe. That’s totally. The key? Don’t feel trapped or forced to follow or subordinate to someone else's expectations. You’re free to make it just the way you want it. Cool? Here’s what I want you do until we talk next time… <ol> <li>Start observing your habits. Specifically, your thoughts, emotions and behaviors that are limiting you or causing you to feel stressed. Just notice and be curious without judgement.</li> <li>Ask yourself, “If I didn’t feel stressed, or overwhelmed or worried about this, what would life be like?</li> <li>Whatever images or thoughts that are generated from the question, allow yourself to feel grateful and enjoy that future right here right now. Here’s what I would do to make sure you’re rewiring yourself and pruning the old thoughts. Set a time for 5 minutes and deliberately do this step 5 min before you go to sleep and 5 minutes when you wake up for the next 7 days. So the guys that are dominating and crushing it have a sniper approach that is very, targeted. ...And everyone else, who’s losing battles and getting killed, is because they’re setting fantasy goals without a clear and efficient strategy to execute in an overcrowded market. So that’s why their growth and marketing isn’t working as well anymore. So what we gotta do, is help them narrow their focus and remove distractions in a world that is constantly trying to sell them the next sexy thing, or some new marketing fad, right? There are new ideas everywhere… There are no lack of ideas. Are you following?  Here is what I mean by that... If you think about our clients, they come to us for a couple of reasons… Number one... They’re doing great, but they want to elevate their performance. They want a higher level of achievement. They want to do better. I love that. that’s great. Unfortunately, is not always easy. So a lot of times they’ve been doing great for a long time, they’ve been very profitable but they’ve plateaued, they’ve spend a ton of money on marketing and development, but they’ve lost momentum. AND the reason things stop working is what I said a minute ago, they’re going too wide and they lack precision. Because of that, they have a million plates spinning at all times and nothing gets the necessary focus, or attention and therefore, momentum, decelerates, slows down, or stops. Imagine your marketplace like a battlefield and you want to win the war, right? (I know, it may be grim metaphor but just follow for a second. You don’t want to have a million battles to fight, you want to your best effort, your best resources on the fewest amount of battles possible to win the war. The more battles the less chance of winning the war. Otherwise, you just end up overwhelmed, overworked, frustrated and exhausted. You with me? The companies who are winning right now, are the ones who are narrowing their focus and know how to put their best effort, best focus, best energy and resources on the most leveraged, most profitable targets. They are not fighting a million battles, they’re picking the fewest battles possible they know they can dominate to win the war. Makes sense? So if we’re looking at it from the perspective of dominating your market and achieve maximum growth, maximum profitability and maximum impact that’s sustainable, what do we gotta do? We’ve got to do what I call narrowing down to the core and give it a disproportionate focus and attention. Which will accelerate growth, create a deeper bond with your best clients and make you the most trusted advisor, the preeminent authority and highest paid expert in your field. Those that are doing this are hands down the ones crushing it today. If you think about some of the biggest companies in the world, this is really what they do. Apple brag that they are the most focused company in the world. They say NO to more things than they “yes” to. There’s only ONE iPhone. Said differently, there is no competition. If you’re putting a lot of marketing money and effort in going wide and not yielding the growth you want, it's because everyone else is too, and you just become a commodity, fighting too many battles and lacking focus. The good news is, the money is not in doing more things, fighting more battles. The money is in narrowing your focus, removing distractions and picking that ONE thing you’re the best at, that your competition is not paying attention to and you will win the war. You will out-do, out-perform and out-earn your competition. You’ll dominate your marketplace, bring in more revenue and cultivate a team of elite performers, that are focused, energized and love to be part of your brand. This means, that when it comes down to your best buyers making a purchase and choosing who to do business with, who are they going to choose? They’re going to choose you, the expert that has specialized. Your prospects will see that and know you are the most trusted advisor, most preeminent authority and go to expert in your marketplace. You with me? Why because you didn’t dabble. Because you had precision and didn’t do things halfass. So the question becomes number one, what do you do to position yourself as the go to expert? ...And how do you do it so you’re not just wasting money on the next shiny idea or marketing tactic? Meaning, what’s a strategic way of doing this, without overwhelm, or running your team to the ground, right? ...And how do you know what is the right focus that will yield the biggest most relevant results? The secret is called Precision Based Growth. and precision can be a dangerous word because it could be mistaken with, perfection or micromanaging and it's the complete opposite. This is not what this is about. The word precision is key here. We want to remove any and all friction, distraction, any unproductive, unprofitable, unnecessary, meaningless activities and behaviors that slow you down and decelerate your growth. We want precision. It makes you faster, more flexible and gives you freedom. So if we want to dominate our market and accelerate growth we need to ask ourselves... Number one, if all areas of our team’s performance remained the same which ONE area could use the greatest most relevant improvement and growth? And number two, what are all my current key activities that are making me inefficient, unproductive, unprofitable? Number three, What core values drive our company and which ONE target will help to congruently fulfill on those values? And here is the big one, who do I need to become in order to demonstrate the leadership necessary to inspire my team into action? In other words, what's the mindset, what are the beliefs, skills, habits and consistent behaviors I must own to be the type of leader others want to follow? Once you have the answers to these questions and own that stuff, here's the roadmap with Precision Based Growth...   Phase ONE: Clarify. We use the information as building blocks. We identify the best most relevant key targets. And which ones do you think are the best? Of course, the once aligned with you core values, most profitable and energizing. What are we doing here? Probably not too hard to guess, right? We’re using Precision Based Growth to strip away, simplify and remove all that stuff that slows you down so you can accelerate the growth of your business. How about I give you a quick example of how it relates outside of business? A client of mine; a Tennis pro who went from being ranked 50 in the world to not even being in the top 100. (He had an injury and had to stop playing for awhile and he took it really hard as you can imagine. It affected his confidence and certainty. This is not only his passion but also his career. I asked him what he wanted. He goes, “I want to win a Grand Slam. I want to be #1. It’s been a dream since I was a little kid.” Now in the world of tennis this is a big deal. It’s the biggest thing you can do in Tennis. (You could say it changes your status and your income drastically. It’s a whole different life if you’re a pro. It will 10X your income for sure). Because of the injury he went from top 50 to leaving the top 100. This is not an easy turn-around… Are you following? Apart from working on the mindset we had to understand where the most efficient focus and energy had to be. It was not enough to just practice for two hour a day, we needed precision. What kinda of practice would make the biggest difference? Are you with me? We had to make a complete evaluation to turn this around. We couldn’t just focus on his footwork, backhand, volley’s, slicing or serving. I asked him, “Which ONE area would bring the greatest level of growth, which would impact your game most?” Right? Because everything is not equal. He goes, “No doubt, my serve.” But then we went deeper, “How many perfect serves can you make in a row?” Without going into the whole story right now... Here’s the point. We had to find a a way to evaluate the most important area of focus (so he didn’t treat every aspect of practice with equal importance) and then we had to figure out the most productive activity to increase the success of his serve. Just by doing this, in his next tournament he made it to the finals. Which is amazing because he had not won a game since the injury. That’s the power of precision. Precision of mindset, precision of activity and precision in knowing the fruits of the activity. Of knowing not only what to focus on but how to focus. If I go to my marriage. We have focused on finding each other’s most leveraged things; where we are the most effective and efficient instead of focusing on being equal and fair. (When I saying fair, I’m talking about splitting tasks 50/50). This is a major point of conflict in many marriages. (This will be the topic of a completely separate episode). But just to give you a quick example. I have not cooked a meal in over 8 years, from scratch. Not that I can’t, I know how to cook, but it’s not where I’m most efficient, where I can make my greatest contribution. When Emily, my wife prepares food, it’s way healthier, tastier, and she enjoys it. (most of the time.) She has a system. Could I learn it? Yes. But it’s not in my values, like it is for her. I wouldn’t put Emily in coaching clients or making sales call. It’s not that she can’t. She is great in sales. She closes me and the kids all the time on what she wants. It’s just not in her values. When it comes to dressing the kids, she loves doing that, and doesn’t want me to do that. (She thinks she has better taste than me.) And I’m sure she’s right. She does a great job doing. Therefore, I’m not going to waste my mental energy of doing something that lowers my efficiency and takes away from what I do best or enjoy most. Like being here with you, right now! Is this making sense. You getting this? I know people struggle with this every day. They try to force themselves to be motivated to do something that is completely out of alignment with their values. Again, this is the topic of a completely different episode. Let’s continue. Phase Two in Precision Based Growth is Execution...How do you implement the most effective, most efficient messaging, packaging, positioning, offers, the most precise sales process that guarantee your best buyers know you are the most trusted advisor, the most preeminent authority and go to expert in your field.It’s very simple… Once we strip away all unnecessary, unwanted and low-productive and unprofitable activities we move into… Phase Three. OPTIMIZE: If you want to remove overwhelm, burnout and stay focused, efficient and be the kind of leader that goes first, that others want to follow, you’ve got to be relentless and engage your team in developing deliberate, habit-forming activities that consistently elevates your thinking, skills and processes so you can achieve accelerated, sustainable growth in the midst of outside demands. Luckily for us, not a lot of people are narrowing their focus. They’re busy getting distracted. Trying to please everyone and being controlled by the demands around them. They’re very reactive. I say, let them. The best is doing this. If you want to really, really grow your business and really outperform your competition. The money is here. …Focused on precision-based growth. When Emily, my wife prepares food, it’s way healthier, tastier, and she enjoys it. (most of the time.) She has a system. Could I learn it? Yes. But it’s not in my values, like it is for her. I wouldn’t put Emily in coaching clients or making sales call. It’s not that she can’t. She is great in sales. She closes me and the kids all the time on what she wants. It’s just not in her values. When it comes to dressing the kids, she loves doing that, and doesn’t want me to do that. (She thinks she has better taste than me.) And I’m sure she’s right. She does a great job doing. Therefore, I’m not going to waste my mental energy of doing something that lowers my efficiency and takes away from what I do best or enjoy most. Like being here with you, right now! Is this making sense. You getting this? I know people struggle with this every day. They try to force themselves to be motivated to do something that is completely out of alignment with their values. Again, this is the topic of a completely different episode. Let’s continue. Why am I procrastinating? Why am I not making the money I want? Why am I still overweight? Why do I keep struggling in getting things done? If you feel like you’re drifting, like you lost your way, that maybe life is living you and you’re not in command of your life, don’t feel like you’re dominating life, but life is dominating you? Then today’s episode will be extra important. This is part two of our influence trilogy. If you haven’t listen to part one make sure you go back and listen to is. I know you’ll enjoy it. There are many levels of of influence, but for the sake of this conversation, when I say influence, I’m talking about our ability to influence the thoughts, feelings and behaviors or ourselves and others. What we’re going to talk about today is a systematic way of taking control of how you think, feel and behave so you can achieve what really matters to you. This puts you in charge of your dreams and goals so you can dominate your life and not be dominated by it. Before I go there let’s get a quick understanding of the current map we’re trying to navigate our life through, what’s the current problem we’re facing... BIG PROBLEM:  We all have experiences of disappointment, of goals and dreams that have not been met. Aspirations and ambitions we never accomplished, even when we thought we gave it a fair push or what might feel like we gave it our all. I hear it all the time, “You don’t understand Satori, I gave it my all. I did my best, and it still didn’t happen. I have tried everything.”  Most of the time it was not even your fault… and I’ll tell you why in just a moment. But before I do. I want to explain something we often forget to think about... We all live in a world that is moving so rapidly, yet it may feel like you’re standing still, like you’re not moving toward what you want fast enough, right?. We live in a world where so many us are overwhelmed, overworked, we’re spread thin. We have a million of plates spinning at all times, trying to make everything important. As a result nothing becomes important. Nothing gets the necessary focus and attention. Therefore, we get halfass results. If we’re being honest, (brutally honest, which I recommend) we can see where we’re half assing things, right? I don’t about you, if you see this, but I can see it all around, people giving halfass attention to things, not being present. They’re exhausted. They’re being halfass parents (doing a lot, trying to be perfect to the outside world, but they’re not present, quickly lose their temper, feeding their kids crap because it’s more convenient). In their intimate relationship (they rarely stop to see each other, to touch, to have meaningful conversation, outside of just their daily to-do’s and coordinating schedules. Are you with me? They’re not connected to their dreams or aspirations. At the end of the night they’re stuck in front Netflix to zone out. And once in a while they rub against each other for some variety. Same at work. People doing a halfass job at work (they’re bored, disengaged, distracted, trying to get away with the least possible). I get it believe me. Like I said a minute ago, it’s not even your fault. But it’s time to take ownership for it so we can make a real shift. Even if you didn’t make the mess, if you want to take command of your business, of your life, you have to own the responsibility to clean up the mess… Which leads us to an even greater problem most people don’t even know they have and it’s causing a lot of pain for business owners, leaders, and individual. It’s causing problems for moms and dads in how they raise their children… ...And that is… We’ve been indoctrinated and trained to adopt other’s values rather that our own, trying to pursue other’s dreams, not our own, believing those are the right dreams, the right values… it’s kinda a good girl, good boy syndrome dominating our thoughts, feelings and behaviors. We so much want to please others, tippy toeing and not wanting to disappoint which is why so many of us walk around unfulfilled, dissatisfied and feeling empty. We been chasing a social conditioning, a fantasy and you can see it on social media all the time. Can’t you? “Oh wow, look at that body, I want a body like that.” “Look at that beautiful home, I want to live like that.” A few years ago client calls me on the phone, and we start talking about her direction and what she really believes is most important to her. I ask, “What do you want?” “Okay, so for my business, I want to have a fully automated business that brings me a crap ton of money every year, and I want to work with super high-end clients.” “Define a crap ton,” I ask her. “A million dollars a year.” “That’s roughly about $83,000 a month, a little bit more, to get to a million. That’s before taxes.” “Wow, okay. See, that just… Now, I’m just like…” I interrupt her. “Because your brain goes like, that’s not achievable for me, right?” “Yeah, and I think, ‘Holy shit! The amount of work I need to do to get to $83,000 a month when I’m slogging my guts out trying to make $10,000 just doesn’t seem worth it almost to me. I realize that there is obviously a smarter way. There’s a gap there between the work it takes to get to $83,000 a month versus $10,000 a month.” The first thing to look at here is, she says she wants something, but hasn’t even identified what it actually takes to get there. It’s just an idea. This is the difference between the fantasy and really knowing what you want. You have the thing you want, but you’re not even clear on what’s required to get there, what the effort is to get there. I asked her, “Tell me first, why do you want that? Why do you want a million-dollar business?” “Because I want to have the kind of lifestyle and business where I’m traveling around the world, inspiring people, and holding big VIP retreats in exotic destinations.” “Why do you want that? Go deeper.” “Because honestly, when I write that down, I feel like it’s just my fate. That’s just who I am and what’s going to happen for me. That’s how I feel about it.” We kept going several layers deeper. We can’t just go on feelings. We need a plan. We need daily rituals and habits. You see, whatever we want we can’t be apologetic about it. We’ve got to claim the space. Put your feet into the ground, own it, and feel it all through your body. No apologies. Decide who you need to become in order to own that future. What are the daily habits you need to put in place? Maybe the ONE daily habit is to make sure you own the right thinking so you can make all other actions be natural for you. You’ve got to be like an unapologetic puma, or lion, or tiger. They don’t go, “Oh, I’m sorry miss Gazelle, I want to eat you. Is that ok with you?” Most people lack clarity and understanding. They underestimate the time, the money, the energy, and the effort needed. Most people try to get away with doing the minimum and putting in the least amount of effort. It’s not that what you want is impossible. It’s not that you can’t achieve it. But you underestimate the actual effort, and so that’s why you’ve got to think , “What do I really want? Why do I want it, and who do I need to become to make what I want real?” Create urgency for yourself. Make it matter. No apologies. No holding back. WHY THIS MATTERS: Why am saying this? Because if we don’t start by identifying who we are, what we want, truly want (not based on fantasy or what we believe will give is us more respect, appreciation, love and significance from other people) we’ll be chasing the wrong targets. If we want to achieve the goals and dreams that truly matter, create a meaningful life and be in command our lives, of our businesses, our health, our family and not be seduced by the opinions of others, we must understand the truth. Are you getting this, Are you getting the importance of this? I remember when I started coaching tennis pros It’s a really focused sport. Apart from strategy and skill, it’s very psychology driven. Meaning if you don’t take command of your thinking as a pro, it’s going to be tough. I thought, “This seems like fun I want to play too.” I also thought it would give me an edge when I coaching my clients. I googled the pro tennis store in our area and found one in Westlake. I’m like, “Family get in the car, we’re going to play tennis together.” I went to a pro store looking for rackets. The guy working in the store, really cool guy from Australia asked me about want kind of string I wanted. Of course, I wanted the best. He made sure we all got the right size rackets. I got a $250 racket. A Roger Federer model (the best in the world). He even included two cans of balls. I asked him if knew any pro coaches. He used to play pro himself. He said he coached but he was so busy. He was coaching a lot of top athletes, one of them Wayne Gretzky (the hockey legend and his family) but he would hook me up with someone really great. We jump in the car, to head back home. We’re going to play tennis. I take the family to the tennis court where we live. We played for about 30 min. It happened 2 more times. Now I have a $250 Tennis racket standing in the corner in my bedroom. The reality is, I don’t practice, I don’t have a tennis coach, I don’t watch tennis, don’t read about it. I was more in love with the idea of tennis that the actual activity of learning. You see, nobody has to remind me or push me or try to motivate me to read or study or teach personal growth or business growth, things that helps you elevate your performance or get you an edge in life. I love that kinda stuff. Think about it, what are the things you love to do? What are the things you would do or feel inspired to spend your time on even if you didn’t get paid or received recognition for it? You see that’s how you start identifying your real values, not the fake ones you’ve been told you “should” value. This is why so many people are unfulfilled and need external motivation to do things. You can take this principle into any area of life. I mean some people love to workout. They don’t need anyone to push them. They feel inspired from within, and they keep making progress in that area. Others, hate it and they won’t workout no matter how much you nag them, try to push them or pump them up. When you learn to appreciate and honor others values they can become truly complementary and add to your life, instead of thinking you have to change them to fit into your agenda. Same thing if you want to influence yourself or others to enjoy certain activities and be more productive in business. I have a client who was going for a new certification for his business. He really wanted to out-perform his competition so he could own a bigger market share. There was a problem. He was terrified to take the test because he had the belief that he wasn’t book smart. Not only that, he would get so distracted and overwhelmed that he just wouldn’t do it. Once I understood his values, I connected his values to the actual activities of studying, so he could see the benefits of how the activities were going to help him and lead him to achieve his values. The moment we accomplished that, the moment he could see how he was going to make millions of dollars, how he was going to be able to support his team to be happier, help them be more efficient and how he was going to be able to serve his clients deeper, while out-earning his competition he was all in. We time blocked his study to make sure he would this most important activity first thing in the morning, and it became a habit he enjoyed doing. When you connect activities to your values they become meaningful. Activities without purpose, without connection to what matters to you becomes painful. This is why people abandon their goals and feel like failures by the time mid February comes around and they have not followed through on their New Year resolution. It wasn’t real to begin with. It was not connected to their values. It was a fantasy. “But, Satori, you don’t understand I really wanted to lose 20lb. But Satori, you don’t understand, I really wanted to make $100K, $1million dollars, $10 million dollars.” No you were more in love with the idea, the fantasy of that target than the actual activity and work required to get it. When you’re aligned with your values, you take steps toward it. You don’t need reminding. My wife, Emily and and the three boys were walking in the mall the other day and they walked by an art store where kids can take an art class while parents are shopping. Milo our oldest, loves to paint and does it everyday at home, so Emily asked him if he wanted to take a class. His first response was no. Most parents like to say things to convince their kids, right?, “But you like to paint. Why don’t you try it.” Anyway, Emily didn’t do that she started talking to the person running the store just to find out how it worked. Milo walked around in the store and he saw a picture of Foxy on the wall… Which is this character from the Five nights at Freddy’s series. (This didn’t exist when I was little). All of a sudden he lights up like a christmas tree and wants to do the art class right away. He loves painting nobody has to force him to do it. But he doesn’t like to paint just anything. The moment he saw paintings of the wall of the things he already values, (already aligned with his values) he couldn’t wait to do it. No twisting of his arm. No begging. No pleading.Completely inspired from within. This is the best way to influence ANYBODY. Influence with what already influences the person. That my friend is understanding the values of yourself and others. Values are what you’ve learned to make important, usually born out of your voids. Not always. Your values are the things influence you because you believe or perceive them to be missing in your life. Because they are important you work to fulfill on those voids. Is this making sense? If you don’t have a relationship, What do you do? You want to find a relationship. If you don’t have enough clients, not making enough money, what you do? You work to get more clients and more money, right? People always ask me, so how do I know what my values are? How do I find the right ones? There are several ways to do this, but to give something you can do right away, I’m going to give you 3 question you can start with right away. Oh, before I give the questions and send you on your way to find the answers, I want to clarify something important… We’re not looking for social ideals here, I’m not interested in social conditioning. I want you be truthful with yourself. Here’s the good news. You life is ALREADY demonstrating what really is important and matters to you. The ques are there. So we’re not looking for fantasies here, we’re looking for what your life is actually showing you to be true. I’ll give you a quick final example. I client came to be because he wanted to build and grow a business. Whatever I asked him to do, he wouldn’t really execute on, and whatever he did execute on was not turning him on. I could feel he was not juiced about it. After several weeks of this, I thought, I have to bring this up or we won’t make any progress. Once I brought it up and we spoke about it, he felt so relieved. He really wanted to build a completely different business and serve a different audience. He had started this one because he wanted to stay connected to his wife and he thought, if I do what I really want she’ll be upset with me. (he wasn’t fully aware of this until spoke about it.) But once he started doing what he loved, he became alive, it was like different man. And I want the same for you. Get clear on your values. This is how you influence yourself naturally. This is how you influence you family, your team, and your clients to get the best results. Here are 3 simple questions to get started. Questions:    How do you fill your environment? What I mean is, what 3 things do you fill your space with most? If you look in my environment it’s books (on personal growth, human performance and business. Anything that will make me and my clients better). Also you’ll find electronics like my phone and computer so I can do my work. And of course, my family. These are all things close to me.   What dominates your thoughts? Which 3 things do you think about most? I’m not talking about negative self-talk, but the things you really love thinking about most. For me it’s how I can share my message with more people and grow our business. It’s about how I can be better, how I can master my skills and my mind so I can have a deeper impact. How I can have a deeper more meaningful relationships.   What do you most often talk to others about? I love this question because it reveals so much about our values. You see when I’m in a group of people and they talk about things I don’t like, I shut down and get kinda quiet. Don’t say so much. (Some could look at those moments and call me introvert). If they talk about things I love, I can talk for hours and you can’t get me to shut up. Notice where you lean in. Notice the conversations where you get bored and where you maybe even interrupt with your topic of choice so you can engaged…    This is Satori Mateu with Halfass To Badass signing off. All I wanted was to accelerate the growth of my business. What happened was the complete opposite. What’s up my friends, this is Satori Mateu and welcome to a brand NEW episode of Halfass to Badass… today I want to talk to you about the smorgasbord of life and how it can either slow you down and create overwhelm, stress and apathy, or save you time, help you compress time and accelerate you on your path to fulfillment. The idea of a Smorgasbord actually originated in Sweden. Pronounced Smörgåsbord in Swedish. And in case you don’t know what it is, it’s a buffet-style feast of multiple hot and cold dishes for you to choose from. It could be so yummy and if you’re really hungry it’s definitely the right place to be. You may wonder, “Satori, what does a smorgasbord have to do with growing my business?!” I’ll tell you, but first, understand, it could also have the complete opposite effect of satisfaction and fulfillment. A lot of times, when you don't know where to start, and you’re starving you can get information overload, which can cause a lot of different problems. Instead of walking away with a satisfied tummy, you're so full and nauseous that you can't fit another piece and you feel like you don't want to eat ever again! Can you relate? Ever ate too much. Ever let your eyes do the eating? You know what I mean? This could so easily happen in life and your business. How do you know you're making the right choices? How do you know when to start? How do you know who you should hire? There are so many opportunities, so many possibilities, right? If you scroll through Facebook or your Instagram feed you will see all the promotions, right? all the ads that will tell you how amazing that program is. I know, they sound so sexy, they sound so good, like they are the best solution for you. Are you with me? How many times have you seen a commercial, and thought to yourself, “I really need this thing? this is perfect.” Once you got it you never even looked at it. I was talking to a client a few days ago, when she said to me, “I'm thinking about going to this retreat…” and the rest of the conversation she was trying to sell me why her going to this retreat what's a great idea.   I said, “Stop, I hear that you want to go. I also hear how you want me to say it's a great idea. But it sounds more like a distraction from what you really need to be doing right now. You simply have three areas to focus on right now;  Grow your business. Grow your marriage, and grow your health. You have all the tools and strategies to do that right here right now. And this is why you hired me. You hired me to keep you focused. You hired me to keep your mindset on track. I'm sure the retreat will be wonderful, and you’d enjoy it, but it's a distraction, and I'm here to tell you the truth.” It’s so easy my friends to get hooked and sometimes not do what is essential. In 2016 I was in 3 different masterminds at the same time. All I wanted was to accelerate the growth of my business. Sounds smart. Nothing wrong with that. What happened was the complete opposite. Stagnation happened. I was paralyzed with information overload. It felt like I was off to a new city every week. Even if I wanted to get something done, I got nothing done, I felt like I was on a treadmill chasing the next level of success. My wife loves staying home with the kids but me not being there created a lot of tension since I was not able to be there to support her or be present with my family. Some months I was gone 3 weekends in a row, hopping from one mastermind retreat to the next, which obviously didn’t leave a lot of time for my family. I mean, a quick Facetime goodnight wasn’t enough for them. I was spending so much time and money on these programs, and if you have followed me in this podcast you know, I’m all about mastery and being a badass, but I wasn’t even halfassing any of the programs. I wasn’t giving any of them the attention and focus they required. On the outside it looked like I was really successful, traveling everywhere… meeting with highly successful entrepreneurs and business leaders but the fact is, I was getting nothing done in my business. Was I making money? Yes, but that is not the only measure of growth in your business. My family was suffering, my wife and kids rarely saw me (and when I was home I was trying to catch up on the things I didn’t implement for my business while I was on the road). My body was falling into pieces. I went to the chiropractor several times a week. I couldn’t sleep. My neck was tight. My back was hurting. I had a chest infection for months. I felt like I had this huge weight on my shoulders. I couldn’t satisfy anyone because I was spread way too thin. The fact is, had I focused on only ONE of these masterminds, and utilizing the coaching and support that was available to me, I would’ve most likely achieved what I was looking for. Instead I was on a never ending treadmill. Each program had its own value, no question about it but it’s like that smorgasbord, when you try mixing all the foods together, over consuming, you end up sick, or stressed or overwhelmed. This is one of the core principles we talk about in our community… because if you want to reduce time and accelerate growth you must reduce friction. Remove the areas that slow you down. I was looking at so many different places for information and it made me paralyzed… I would mix one principle from one program with a strategy from another and optimize none. I decided to focus on ONE program, and not being seduced, exhausted, and overwhelmed… I basically went on a mastermind diet. And focused on creating what I wanted for myself, and my family and my health. I created for my people, for my tribe what I had always wanted. A place where they could focus on growth and results as suppose to just more consumption of information. Focus on what they want without the distractions and being hooked by the new sexy thing. Instead of consumption mode I went into creation mode, to create the very thing that would help my clients avoid the overwhelm and stress I was experiencing and instead be focused on making progress, real progress, not the illusion of progress that can happen when we’re stuck in “busyiness”. I have them stay connected and focused on their core areas of life and business so they make consistent progress and can grow. Don’t just mishmash things together because it will just become a jumble, a mess and confusion that will just slow you down. You got to Focus and commit… on what’s relevant right now. It’s not always easy… I know. It can be hard… Thinking the grass is greener on the other side. It’s not greener on the other side… but just like the smorgasbord it’s easy to get seduced, right? Letting your eyes do all the eating. So to speak. What happens? You get sick because you eat too much, and mixing food that don’t match. Individually they could work, but you have to focus and commit on the essentials. On the things that matter. And you need to learn how to evaluate that. The ads sound sexy, and there are some great marketers out there but I learned that if I don’t implement the stuff I already have, this other new sexy program that is being waved in front of me is just a seduction and will just waste my money and be information on my computer that will never be implemented. My kids are getting more from me. I’m a more present husband. The constant exhaustion is lifted. I sleep better. I’m more focused. My chest congestion (that was stress related) is gone. I stop to notice my kids different personalities as individuals. I stop and take the time to really see their expression in their eyes without rushing to the next thing. All I wanted was to accelerate the growth of my business. What happened was the complete opposite. What’s up my friends, this is Satori Mateu and welcome to a brand NEW episode of Halfass to Badass… today I want to talk to you about the smorgasbord of life and how it can either slow you down and create overwhelm, stress and apathy, or save you time, help you compress time and accelerate you on your path to fulfillment. The idea of a Smorgasbord actually originated in Sweden. Pronounced Smörgåsbord in Swedish. And in case you don’t know what it is, it’s a buffet-style feast of multiple hot and cold dishes for you to choose from. It could be so yummy and if you’re really hungry it’s definitely the right place to be. You may wonder, “Satori, what does a smorgasbord have to do with growing my business?!” I’ll tell you, but first, understand, it could also have the complete opposite effect of satisfaction and fulfillment. A lot of times, when you don't know where to start, and you’re starving you can get information overload, which can cause a lot of different problems. Instead of walking away with a satisfied tummy, you're so full and nauseous that you can't fit another piece and you feel like you don't want to eat ever again! Can you relate? Ever ate too much. Ever let your eyes do the eating? You know what I mean? This could so easily happen in life and your business. How do you know you're making the right choices? How do you know when to start? How do you know who you should hire? There are so many opportunities, so many possibilities, right? If you scroll through Facebook or your Instagram feed you will see all the promotions, right? all the ads that will tell you how amazing that program is. I know, they sound so sexy, they sound so good, like they are the best solution for you. Are you with me? How many times have you seen a commercial, and thought to yourself, “I really need this thing? this is perfect.” Once you got it you never even looked at it. I was talking to a client a few days ago, when she said to me, “I'm thinking about going to this retreat…” and the rest of the conversation she was trying to sell me why her going to this retreat what's a great idea.   I said, “Stop, I hear that you want to go. I also hear how you want me to say it's a great idea. But it sounds more like a distraction from what you really need to be doing right now. You simply have three areas to focus on right now;  Grow your business. Grow your marriage, and grow your health. You have all the tools and strategies to do that right here right now. And this is why you hired me. You hired me to keep you focused. You hired me to keep your mindset on track. I'm sure the retreat will be wonderful, and you’d enjoy it, but it's a distraction, and I'm here to tell you the truth.” It’s so easy my friends to get hooked and sometimes not do what is essential. In 2016 I was in 3 different masterminds at the same time. All I wanted was to accelerate the growth of my business. Sounds smart. Nothing wrong with that. What happened was the complete opposite. Stagnation happened. I was paralyzed with information overload. It felt like I was off to a new city every week. Even if I wanted to get something done, I got nothing done, I felt like I was on a treadmill chasing the next level of success. My wife loves staying home with the kids but me not being there created a lot of tension since I was not able to be there to support her or be present with my family. Some months I was gone 3 weekends in a row, hopping from one mastermind retreat to the next, which obviously didn’t leave a lot of time for my family. I mean, a quick Facetime goodnight wasn’t enough for them. I was spending so much time and money on these programs, and if you have followed me in this podcast you know, I’m all about mastery and being a badass, but I wasn’t even halfassing any of the programs. I wasn’t giving any of them the attention and focus they required. On the outside it looked like I was really successful, traveling everywhere… meeting with highly successful entrepreneurs and business leaders but the fact is, I was getting nothing done in my business. Was I making money? Yes, but that is not the only measure of growth in your business. My family was suffering, my wife and kids rarely saw me (and when I was home I was trying to catch up on the things I didn’t implement for my business while I was on the road). My body was falling into pieces. I went to the chiropractor several times a week. I couldn’t sleep. My neck was tight. My back was hurting. I had a chest infection for months. I felt like I had this huge weight on my shoulders. I couldn’t satisfy anyone because I was spread way too thin. The fact is, had I focused on only ONE of these masterminds, and utilizing the coaching and support that was available to me, I would’ve most likely achieved what I was looking for. Instead I was on a never ending treadmill. Each program had its own value, no question about it but it’s like that smorgasbord, when you try mixing all the foods together, over consuming, you end up sick, or stressed or overwhelmed. This is one of the core principles we talk about in our community… because if you want to reduce time and accelerate growth you must reduce friction. Remove the areas that slow you down. I was looking at so many different places for information and it made me paralyzed… I would mix one principle from one program with a strategy from another and optimize none. I decided to focus on ONE program, and not being seduced, exhausted, and overwhelmed… I basically went on a mastermind diet. And focused on creating what I wanted for myself, and my family and my health. I created for my people, for my tribe what I had always wanted. A place where they could focus on growth and results as suppose to just more consumption of information. Focus on what they want without the distractions and being hooked by the new sexy thing. Instead of consumption mode I went into creation mode, to create the very thing that would help my clients avoid the overwhelm and stress I was experiencing and instead be focused on making progress, real progress, not the illusion of progress that can happen when we’re stuck in “busyiness”. I have them stay connected and focused on their core areas of life and business so they make consistent progress and can grow. Don’t just mishmash things together because it will just become a jumble, a mess and confusion that will just slow you down. You got to Focus and commit… on what’s relevant right now. It’s not always easy… I know. It can be hard… Thinking the grass is greener on the other side. It’s not greener on the other side… but just like the smorgasbord it’s easy to get seduced, right? Letting your eyes do all the eating. So to speak. What happens? You get sick because you eat too much, and mixing food that don’t match. Individually they could work, but you have to focus and commit on the essentials. On the things that matter. And you need to learn how to evaluate that. The ads sound sexy, and there are some great marketers out there but I learned that if I don’t implement the stuff I already have, this other new sexy program that is being waved in front of me is just a seduction and will just waste my money and be information on my computer that will never be implemented. My kids are getting more from me. I’m a more present husband. The constant exhaustion is lifted. I sleep better. I’m more focused. My chest congestion (that was stress related) is gone. I stop to notice my kids different personalities as individuals. I stop and take the time to really see their expression in their eyes without rushing to the next thing.
