Captain Planet is a woman, and her name is Sarah Williams. Sarah, our newest Breath &amp; Exposure coach, is an incredible individual who has completed some extraordinary adventures, including...  Hiked the entire John Muir Trail, a 220 mile solo hike from Yosemite to Mt. Whitney. Gone 6 days with no food or light in an underground cave for a reality show. Trekked across the entire country of New Zealand, north to south, a 5 month journey, with just a small backpack. Summitted the tallest mountain on the continent, Denali, in 21 days.  Sarah has completed various other trips in multi-day backpacking, rock climbing, mountaineering, canyoneering, and freediving, and is a professional photographer. She believes that our connection to nature is vital, and sets out to capture the ways in which we can discover and strengthen that relationship; focusing on outdoor activities, exploring, and general storytelling.  Sarah aims to empower the rising generation through example and documentation to use the strength of their bodies and creativity out of their minds to experience more parts of nature. From a young age, Darryl Stingley saw comic books, cartoons and superheroes, and was inspired to do what they do. Fast forward to today, and Darryl "Wavy" Stingley is one of the greatest parkour athletes in the world. Not only has he transcended the sport as an athlete, but also, as a teacher, thanks to his one-of-a-kind skillset, body of experience, infectious passion, and commitment to development that is ever-evolving.  Oh, and did we mention? He'll be at DEUCE Gym THIS SATURDAY, September 25, to deliver the first of its kind Parkour Seminar. As he transitions into a profession in LA, a city he is proud to have grown up in, Matt is eager to meet and learn from others who are cultivating an inquiry-based, social justice centered, culturally-responsive, tech-supported, and inclusive learning environment. Hacker is a true Renaissance woman who attributes a growth mindset to helping expand and enrich her life. How she approaches training, and really, most things in life, comes from a place of wonder. Rather than getting fixated on the outcome of things – particularly things she’s never tried before – she tends to frame life experience from this line of thought instead, “Hmm. I wonder if…” Looking for inspiration to try something new without letting the fear of failure stop you? This episode is for YOU. Chef, restaurant owner, 10-year Program Director &amp; Instructor of The Culinary Training Program at St. Joseph's Center - a remarkable non-profit right down the street from DEUCE Gym in Venice, Ironman triathlete, Chopped winner, (folks... the list goes on!) student of DEUCE since 2014, and forever a student life, LA native Derek Walker lives a fascinating, richly diverse and decorated, constantly evolving life. Short and sweet, here's what makes this conversation with Derek exceptional: the juxtaposition in perspective from an individual who has been and continues to be deeply committed to embracing opportunity (and all the obstacles that come with it) throughout his entire life, as well as open-minded enough during the darkest depths of any meaningful pursuit to step back and honor taking a break from passion when needed. And while you might already know a bit about Ben’s background in the military, or how he came to find DEUCE, you’ve likely never heard him tell the story about sending DEUCE Founder, Logan Gelbrich, a DM from a porta potty somewhere in Germany... or how (and why) he came to learn about strength &amp; conditioning… or heard him speak about embodiment, and how a greater understanding of somatic processing has contributed to a richer, much more expansive perspective on things like commitment &amp; manifestation. Ben Smith doesn’t just get the job done with everything that he does, he unequivocally lives it. And, in the way he understands that strength &amp; conditioning training can grow one’s capacity, Ben applies that same mentality to growing his capacity in all other expressions of life. In this week's episode, we feature a DEUCE legend, Chessa Latiffi Donaldson! She's been a student at DEUCE for five years, is a mother of two, and has an extensive background in non-profit work. She is also the epitome of a champion to our DEUCE community - fiercely committed &amp; consistent to training, as well as exceptionally generous in making sure those around her feel seen and celebrated for their efforts, always. A few fun facts about Chessa - she PR'd her 2k row while pregnant with her second child, got her first (and second!) bar muscle up during the CrossFit Open earlier this year, and has a knack for name-dropping our beloved Tim Brown better than anyone else out there. (We love you, Tim.) She's also the ring leader of CPFC (CarPort Fitness Club!), a training group - no, family! - that evolved in 2020 during quarantine when the gym was closed due to COVID; an impressive testament to the power of a non-negotiable dedication to training, paired with community.
