Nurture &amp; Support returns  Mel and I hope to get back to at least a monthly update for the podcast.   Here is one in a row… Kelly’s recommendation: Oculus Quest 2 After many failed attempts, I finally have a VR device I love.  No computer required, easy set up, and amazing VR experiences.  Definitely worth a look (and once you get it, get the Vader Immortal series!)      Mel’s recommendation: Alien III audiobook Mel LOVES the Alien series.  Well, except for Alien 3 movie, which she pretty much hates… UNTIL she came across an alternative script by William Gibson available on Audible.  It runs just over 2 hours and features some of the original cast including Michael Biehn and Lance Henriksen! Awesome scary podcast – The Shadow Diaries (Nurture & Support {Cobbler} 186)

Special treat around the 18:30 mark  Kelly’s recommendation –  The Boys This Amazon show is based on the graphic novels of the same name by Garth Ennis. While there are many tweaks, it does effectively bring forward the dark, funny, dark, strange world of the graphic novel.  If you have problems with profanity.. not your show. If you have problems with VERY dark situations… not your show.  The cast and writing are spectacular!       Mel’s recommendation –  Art With Flo Just like Kelly, Mel remains on the lookout for a graphic art Sherpa.  Flo seems to be the ticket for her.  Flo provides easy to follow, concise guidance on using Procreate.  Flo doesn’t assume you have the highest end equipment, in fact Mel was able to keep up with her vintage iPad Air and generation 1 Apple Pencil.   As promised, here is Mel’s first project.   Nice job!! This week Mel returns to Amazon and Kelly FINALLY learns GIMP (sorta) Mel’s recommendation:Aicook Electric Kettle After years of irresponsible tea brewing, Mel picked up an electric kettle with presets for the best temperature to brew green tea, white tea, Oolong tea, black tea, and coffee.  She has really noticed the difference in flavor, and outside of missing the cool blue LED light on her old kettle, she has been very satisfied. Revisiting MySpace (eventually) – Squat Cobbler 138

This week marks Mel’s triumphant return to Netflix and Kelly’s continued quest for good free software  Kelly’s recommendation:Openshot Well, I finally gave up on the Windows provided solutions and downloaded a new video editor.  It is called OpenShot.  The interface is pretty straightforward and the features are numerous.  It has been compared favorably to iMovie, so probably a good choice if you are looking.     Mel’s recommendation: The Witcher Mel finally began to use her Netflix subscription and watched The Witcher (mosting in one sitting).  It hit on all of Mel’s favorites… there are books, related video games, and fantasy.  She also found it provides a healthy dose of humor in addition to the adventures. Our good friend, Gerald Webb, has a new movie being released on Netflix June 25 called “Staged Killer” (trailer) – directed by Christopher Ray. Gerald, understanding the power of the Squat Cobbler Bump, asked if we would help coordinate a live tweet of the movie with the Snarkalec gang and others. Of course we would! So, on Saturday June 29 at 9PM Eastern, 8pm Central, 6PM Pacific we will be live tweeting this and Gerald will join us along with some members of the cast! Here is what you need to participate:  Netflix access A Twitter account An understanding of time zones  On the 29th I’ll share where to pause the movie to synchronize our start and will do the old 2, 2, 1, GO! TANGENT TALLY: 2 This week Dr. Mike and I discuss a former hero of mine who had some very unpleasant things to say recently… Pete Townshend.  Pete shared in a Rolling Stone article that he was glad Keith Moon and John Entwistle were dead and that he was basically the only thing good about The Who.  He also managed to work in the The Who aren’t a band anymore, in an interview to PROMOTE The Who’s upcoming new release. Nice work Pete. Clearly Pete knew we were coming after him and he has tried to back-peddle some, passing his words off as “I was being ironic in my own English way“. On a happier note, Dr. Mike and I officially declared war on Hanson,  Squat Cobbler is coming for ya boys. Squat Cobbler 84: Spoilers

“I got a Gibson without a case, but I can’t get that even tanned look on my face”  Tangent Tally: 6.5 This week Mike and I review the Who’s “Quadrophenia”. This is an outstanding album and we both marvel at the drumming of a certain Mr. Keith Moon. I apologize that I made several unforced errors in the review.  I goofed up on what songs were on what side, confused the band member themes, and I managed to explain the song structure of “Helpless Dancer” while we were discussing “Dirty Jobs”.  In my defense, I was tired and still in recovery from the Dwarves review

This week Mike and Kelly set a record for tangents prior to the recommendations.  Sorry. Mike’s Recommendation – Technology Connections YouTube Channel This channel is a treasure trove on all sorts of technology tidbits ranging from closed captioning, LEDs, DVD-RAM, Laserdiscs,etc… Mike specifically mentioned the segment on the history of cassette tapes as a “must listen”  Kelly’s Recommendation – Walking Dead Our World app Great game play, augmented reality, and zombies (!) in the Pokemon Go meets the Walking Dead app.  Available on Android and iOS, this joint effort between Google Maps and AMC is extremely fun to play.  Game play is intuitive, but if you want to take it to the next level, Reddit has all the information you would ever need.  The app is challenging Pokemon Go as Kelly’s go to “walk in and out of work” entertainment. As mentioned in the podcast, Kelly recommended Pokemon Go on Nurture and Support 120 (July 2016). In a clear violation of recommendation protocol, Mike recommended Pokemon Go on Squat Cobbler 8 (August 2016). “It’s bigger than King Kong”  Thanks to a suggestion from our listener Mick, this week Mike and Kelly discuss Battle Axe by Billion Dollar Babies.  When the original Alice Cooper group went there separate ways, three members of the band formed Billion Dollar Babies.  The concept for Battle Axe was to be the follow up for the the original group’s final collaboration, “Muscle of Love“. While there are some moments, listening to this album (and Alice’s “Goes to Hell” and “Lace and Whiskey” outings that were also released around this time) point out how amazing the original group’s mixture of talent was.
