What does it mean to be kings and priests? Israel demanded a king. “Make us a king to judge us like all the nations”   Scripture 1 Sam 8:6   Revelation 5:10 He has made us kings and priests to our God, and we shall reign on the earth.   God designed us to desire to rule and reign on this earth. Gen 1 says we were created in his image. Fill the earth and subdue it.   It is not a bad thing to want to rule and reign unless it is paired with selfishness. This is why we died with Jesus, we were crucified with Christ, no longer do I live but Christ within me. So that our selfish nature does not rule and reign any longer.   So what does this mean to be kings and priests?   We represent the king of kings in his image and nature: love. We are ambassadors for Christ, reconciling the world to God. His kingdom is expanding through us.   Go into all the world and make disciples of all the nations. Matt 20 Parable of the Vineyard Workers Meaning   The landowner has favor on anyone who works in his vineyard. Regardless of how hard or long they’ve worked.   Because salvation is not based on performance, but on the grace of God.   Right = righteous   Jesus is our reward, wage. All who enter the kingdom receive the same reward: Jesus   Abraham: Genesis 15:1 KJVS [1] After these things the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.   You gain the free gift of righteousness regardless of how long you’ve been saved. Your value is the same regardless of time spent laboring.   But if you want to be first in the kingdom you must love.   Anyone can enter the kingdom. But to be great you must love.   John 6:29 NIV [29] Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.”   Verse 16 is interpreted by the next parable as whoever wants to be first must become a slave in serving others.   It’s not about when you enter the kingdom, or your works to be saved. But if you want to become great or first in his kingdom, you must become a servant/slave.   His command is to lay our lives down for our brothers and sisters. To love one another. Happy New Year Prophetic Words

This week as I was contemplating Christmas and reading through Deuteronomy, I couldn’t help but notice the extravagant blessing God promised the Israelites if they obeyed Him. You know, in the culture we live in America, we tend to extravagantly bless our kids with stuff. And if we don’t have the means, we tend to feel bad for them that they didn’t get the newest gadget, video game system, iPhone or as much stuff as Johnny, his best friend, got. Like we have failed them in comparison with our friends because we didn’t spend $500 on toys. It’s good to want to bless our kids, but I do wonder how this relates to God. God is our Father and He loves to bless us.   I wonder what kind of blessing is for us today. I mean if God proves his love by giving us tangible things, what about the Christians who don’t have much? Is it because they haven’t obeyed God? Is stuff a sign of obedience? Or today we may say, well, it’s a mindset. And yes, the gospel breaks off the poverty mindset, but I do have some concerns about assuming having stuff equals obedience to God. After really seeing “increase” in real estate, and now working in the church, it’s forced me to question all these physical blessings that we think are a sign of God’s favor on our lives. I mean, sure famous preachers can say they are blessed because they obeyed God. But that’s equivalent to an actor saying they are blessed because they obeyed God.   The Old Covenant was about serving and loving God. If the Israelites served God and loved him with all their hearts, they would be blessed.   Obedience brought blessing.   It didn’t depend on inner transformation.   Deut 5 shares the story of the Israelites at the mountain with Moses and God and essentially they said, “We are afraid if we hear God we will die. Moses, you talk to God, and tell us what to obey.”   There’s no power in that. Sure they could muster up an outward obedience, and not murder their family, but what about inward?   I wonder if this is where we have gotten it wrong in Christianity. We are still trying to live under the Old Covenant principles of doing good to be blessed. We are trying to obey God under the Old Covenant, mustering up enough obedience to be blessed, while also trying to be a good servant like Christ and have all the Spiritual blessings. We all want peace. We all want joy. We all want stuff.   So as I think it through, and wrestle with this whole Christianity thing, didn’t Christ already do all that?   He fulfilled the Old Covenant and was good for us. He brought peace to the world through his obedience. This is what we just celebrated Christmas for. Peace to earth goodwill toward man, right? So what’s the deal with the blessings of God?   What Christianity is about is having a new heart. Becoming more like Christ to serve more people.   The Old Covenant was an outer obedience and outer reward. What the Israelites didn’t want was a relationship. They only wanted rules.   Christianity is an inner transformation resulting in outer service. It’s an inner transformation of love, and it bears fruit for an outer laying one’s life down. Christianity is all about relationship, not about rules.   What if we’ve been duped into believing Christianity is about what I can get from God, instead of how can I be more like him. We somehow think money is a sign of God’s favor, when the sign was Jesus laid his life down, for us. He already proved his love by laying his life down. Now he asks us to do the same with the power of the Holy Spirit.   It starts with your family. Is your spouse acting a fool? Lay your life down. Do they have annoying habits? Lay your life down. Then believers. Did a Christian do something that hurts? Forgive as you’ve been forgiven. Love the bride of Christ and serve others.   The New Covenant, Christianity, is about us having a new heart to serve and love others.   John 15:12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Blessings and the New Covenant

Is God angry with you? Good News: You are not guilty (even though…)!   The first few years of working as a REALTOR, it seemed no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t land a listing! My husband was working hard, but just starting a flooring business, and as you know it takes a while to get a business off the ground. We had 2 toddlers and a baby at home, so I was desperate to make something. Before the appointment, sitting in my car out front of their home, I’d beg the Lord wiping the tears from my face, “Jesus, please let me get this one. I really need it. Please God.” In the home, I’d take a look around, give them my advice, sit down to answer their questions, and the inevitable sentence would roll off their tongues, “Well, we need to think about it.” My heart broken and time wasted away from my kids, I would cry, “God why are you not blessing me?” The same story repeated itself countless times as I scored listing appointments, but couldn’t close the deal. (If you’ve ever been in sales, you can relate)   I knew His promises, I read the Word every day! I even went to a faith Bible school! I’d declare His promises out loud and believed He wanted to bless me, so why wasn’t it working?   Have you ever experienced this? The Israelites were wandering in the desert for 40 years. God was so angry with all their complaining and idol worship, they had to die in the wilderness without inheriting the promised land. Even Moses, who was the humblest man in the world didn’t get to inherit the promised land! I felt like I was an Israelite wandering in the desert knowing the promise of God but never entering the land!   In my desperation to see the blessings of God, I wrote a song, “Let your Goodness pass before me” Get it on iTunes.   So why can we expect the blessings of God when even Moses didn’t get to inherit the promise? What’s the difference?   It’s the New Covenant! Guys, we are not Israelites under the Old Covenant!   Under the Old Covenant, the Israelites had to obey to obtain the promises. They had to offer sacrifices for their sin to remove their guilt year after year. Under the New Covenant, we believe in Jesus and obtain the promises. God punished sin on the cross! Our guilt is washed away in the blood of Jesus. Jesus paid the debt of your sin, and God will never be angry with you again!   Before understanding the new covenant, even though I knew the promise, I felt unworthy of the blessing of God. When I had listing appointments, I felt guilty for the sins I had committed and sabotaged any success headed my way. God wanted to bless me, but I couldn’t receive it.   But when learning I have favor with God, not because I’ve been good, but because Jesus was good for me, Jesus lifted my chin up, and I began to get clients. Guys, you are worthy because Jesus paid the price for you! You are free of guilt from all the bad things you have done because Jesus has already cleansed you.   Isaiah 54:9-10 Just as I swore in the time of Noah that I would never again let a flood cover the earth, so now I swear that I will never again be angry and punish you. For the mountains may move and the hills disappear, but even then my faithful love for you will remain. My covenant of blessing will never be broken, says the Lord, who has mercy on you.   You do not have to walk around guilty of everything you’ve done wrong. God made a covenant that He would never be angry with you anymore! God knew we had a sin problem, and sent the answer by sending his wonderful son Jesus, born of a virgin, born lowly in a manger, to die on a cross for you and for me. He took our guilt and gave us peace. Because of Jesus, God will never be angry with you, and you qualify for the blessings of God because of Jesus’ behavior, not your own goodness. How to understand the bible through covenants.   Understanding the Whole Bible by Dr. Jonathan Welton   In ancient culture, a covenant was between two parties, written out and was legal and binding. Then as the parties walked the covenant out, they would record the cannon, which was filled with history, art, music, poetry etc.   What we have in scripture is five major covenants between God and mankind.   Noahic Abrahamic Mosaic Davidic Jesus/New Covenant   The Mosaic covenant began in Exodus 20 on Mt. Sinai. Prior to the Mosaic covenant, it is interesting to note that not one time does the Bible tell us what will make God wrathful. Sodom and Gomorrah and the flood were due to God being grieved at the wickedness of mankind. Sodom and Gomorrah was a response to justice to the cries and prayers of the people.   With this in mind, Romans 4:15 makes sense. “the law brings wrath…” So as we read the Old Testament, we have to keep in mind the different covenants between God and the people.   And as part of the New Covenant now, we have to know the entire bible does not apply to us. Otherwise, we couldn’t eat shrimp and bacon! The Mosaic Covenant was not written to us. We can learn from them, but they are not for us.   This is imperative to understanding how to apply the Bible to our lives!   In ancient times 3 main types of covenants were common:   Grant covenant – greater and lesser party come into agreement. The greater party takes on all the obligations and the lesser simply received it.   (Noahic, Abrahamic, Davidic, New Covenant) Kinship covenant – when two equal parties come together like a marriage. Both take on a small set of obligations. (Mosaic started out as this and later added the Vassal) Vassal Covenant – greater and lesser party come together based on the greater one’s ability to destroy to lesser. Instead of destroying them, they offer protection in exchange for collecting taxes, or slavery or other. The greater had all the power and the lesser had to fulfill a large number of obligations. Is it Possible to Love without a Grudge? Outrageous Love Part 7

One morning I was praying and the Lord gave me a vision. It was a young woman roaming through the streets, lost. She didn’t know who she was. Quite often, men would come and abuse her, and even steal what little bit she had. They would yell insults at her and called her terrible names. This woman was defeated.   Then one day she was found by the King and brought to the palace. And love was lavished on her. All the people in the palace told her that she was a princess and she began to learn to live as one.   Growing in her confidence, one day she was walking through the streets much like a commoner. Several men recognized her and came from all directions and starting beating her again. They were laughing and overwhelming her.   She knelt down in a ball on the ground and cried out to the Lord. In a moment, her eyes opened and she remembered she was a princess of the kingdom. So she rose up and declared, “I am a princess of the land, who are you to come and beat me down?”   In a flash, the faces of the men turned to fear. They knew she knew who she was and fled in every direction. The princess knew she had the authority to command anything she wished and she commanded they be captured and put in prison.   She now walks throughout the kingdom as a princess, and all her enemies fear her.   Moral of the story: This is spiritual warfare. The enemy knows who we are and will keep coming back day after day to keep us defeated and down. If we do not understand who we are and the authority we have as children of the King, we will walk on this earth defeated. He will beat and rob us any chance he gets.   Knowing who we are begins with knowing we have been given a gift of righteousness. That way when the enemy comes to taunt you and remind you of all your sins, you can declare, “I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus! I have been forgiven. Now flee enemy!”   And when sickness comes to attack, you can declare, “You have no right in my body!”   Today know you are royalty. You are children of the Most High God. You have been declared Kings and Priests. The only weapon the enemy has against you is lies. And he wants to deceive you into believing you have no power. But you do!   Deuteronomy 28:7 The Lord will grant that the enemies who rise up against you will be defeated before you. They will come at you from one direction but flee from you in seven. How to have Heaven on Earth in your Marriage Ephesians Part 6

We have a deep problem with grace in the body of Christ today! And it’s not what we think. Can we go too deep into grace? If so, what are the consequences? And what do we really not understand about grace? So what is the problem with grace? Romans 6:1 NIV What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2 By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? We are talking about the big S-word today, SIN! If we continue in grace, does it give us permission to do anything we want without consequences? By not means! Sometimes I wonder if 2000 years ago was all that different than today. The Christians of that day had the same fear as the Christians of today. The big fear is that if we have all this new freedom in grace that the sin nature will take over thinking there are no consequences to our behavior. Let me be clear right here: If we sin there WILL be consequences. On this earth. There is such a thing as sowing and reaping on this earth. However, the punishment for our sin eternally has been paid by the blood of Jesus. In other words, the eternal punishment of hell has no power over us if we have put our faith in Jesus Christ. We are completely forgiven through believing in Him, and have a right standing with God the Father regardless of our behavior. We receive a free gift of righteousness, regardless of our behavior.   BUT our behavior still has consequences on this earth with people and everything around us. So just because we have freely received this incredible grace doesn’t mean we should do any and everything just because we can. Will God love and forgive you even if you go off the deep end? Yes! But will it destroy some things on the earth? Yes!   The purpose of grace is to let the past go. It’s so that we can come boldly before the Creator’s throne without guilt, condemnation, and shame. We are completely clean and holy before him and are completely acceptable to Him. When we use this right standing to go to him, he then transforms us into the image of Christ. And his image is love.   Sin is opposite of love. Now that we have received this beautiful and amazing grace, what’s left is love. The problem with grace is that the church doesn’t really understand it. If we meditated on how forgiven we really are and how deep his grace goes, we would run to the Father in gratefulness and he would transform us into his image. The power of forgiveness is real. It’s so real it may just do what it did way back in the bible days when Jesus walked the earth.   In Luke 5, there is a story of a paralyzed man being lowered from the roof top to Jesus so that he could be healed.   The first thing Jesus did was say to the man, “Young man, your sins are forgiven.” This outraged the Pharisees and teachers of religious law because they had worked so hard at being good.   Why did Jesus say to the man who really just wanted to be healed, “Your sins are forgiven?” Maybe he received judgments about his conditions. Maybe he felt it was a punishment from God.   What if the forgiveness carries a power to be healed?   Today, know your sins are forgiven. You are holy if you have put your faith in Jesus Christ because he declares you holy. Not because of your obedience, but because of Jesus’ obedience. When you understand how forgiven you really are you will find it much easier to love others. The Power of Forgiveness

Are we still under the law? This topic is a biggie in the church! Today we tackle it using Jesus’ statement that he did not come to abolish the law but to fulfill it.  Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly I tell   “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.” -Matthew 5:17,18 NIV   This scripture is used to debate that we are still under the law because Jesus stated that not until heaven and earth disappear, the law would not disappear.   So first off, what is the law? The law refers to the ten commandments and laws given to Moses on Mount Sinai because the Israelites rejected a relationship with God because they were afraid of Him. God wanted a relationship with them, and they just wanted laws to follow.   So my first point is as a Gentile (if you are not Jewish by birth) then the ten commandments were never given to you in the first place. We do not adopt all the Jewish customs and rules when we become a believer in Christ.   The second point referring to Matthew 5:17, is Jesus is saying he came to fulfill them. And when he states that not even the least stroke of the pen will be wiped away until heaven and earth disappear, we have to understand what he is meaning by heaven and earth. Does this mean the end of the world? Because I am not an ancient Hebrew speaker, I wouldn’t know that the phrase “heaven and earth” was an idiom referring to the temple in Jerusalem. Here is an excerpt from Understanding The Whole Bible by Dr. Jonathan Welton: The phrase heaven and earth is commonly understood to mean literal heaven and earth. However, if we look at the passage according to a historical contextual hermeneutic, we will discover that the original phrase translated “heaven and earth” is actually an idiom referring to the temple. Inside the temple was the Holy of holies, where the ark of the covenant was housed and where cherubim were sewn into the walls. That room represented heaven to the Jewish people. The secondary area of the temple had a dirt floor, the candlesticks, and the table of showbread; it represented earth. In the outer court, the large bronze container represented the sea. Thus, the temple was divided into the heavens, the earth, and the sea.   OK now, I’m not a bible scholar, but this makes more sense knowing that we are no longer under the law! If we dig further into this we may even look at the book of Revelations differently!   For the purpose of answering the question, “Are we still under the law?”  I wanted to find some scriptures that confirm that we are no longer under the law. And boy was I overwhelmed by a number of scriptures to confirm we are not! Here are just a few:   Romans 3:20 Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God’s sight by the works of the law; rather through the law we become conscious of our sin.   This shows us the purpose of the law was to show us our sin. How else would we know we had sinned and are in need of a Savior?   Romans 6:14 NIV For sin shall no longer be your master, because you’re not under the law, but under grace.   1 Corinthians 15:56 NIV The sting of death is sin, and a power of sin is the law.   Romans 13:10 Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.   Galatians 2:19 For through the law I died to the law so that I might live for God. I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing! For all who rely on the works of the law are under a curse, as it is written: cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the book of the law.   Galatians 3:24-25 NIV So the law was our guardian until Christ came that we might be justified by faith. Now that this faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian.   Galatians 5:14 NIV For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”   Hebrews 8:10 NIV This is the covenant I will establish with the people of Israel after that time, Declares the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.   Hebrews 8:13 NIV by calling this covenant new, he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and outdated will soon disappear. Being a Bipolar Christian is the opposite of having inward peace. After striving so hard to be good, I discovered how righteous I am regardless of my behavior and found peace with God. A bipolar Christian looks like this: How can I be a better Christian? Striving to meet expectations. Thinking seeking the Lord will gain approval from God. Thinking that we gain favor with God by our behavior. Trying to be good enough. Trying to please God by following rules. Not understanding our righteousness in Christ as a free gift results in a bipolar Christian striving to be good for God. Solid Christianity that brings confidence looks like this: Knowing you are the righteousness of God in Christ. Knowing your standing with God has nothing to do with your behavior, because righteousness is a free gift. Peace with God resulting in confidence. So am I saying that our behavior doesn’t matter? Not at all, our behavior is what shows Christ to the world! Our behavior is what keeps peace with those around us. There are consequences to our bad behavior on this earth, but its not because God is punishing us. The more we understand how clean, righteous and holy we are, the more our fruit will be holy. When we focus on how righteous we are in Christ, we are no longer focused on rules, resulting in a struggle of bad behavior. Grace empowers love. Righteousness sets us up to rest in His love. When Brandon and I were having marriage problems, we went to Christian marriage counseling at our church. It was a group counseling session. There’s a reason men hate being dragged to those things!  The first thing they did is have us confess our sins out loud and then opened the scriptures to Colossians 3:5 and told us all the things that we should NOT be doing. While it’s true that bad behavior and sexual immorality cause harm to our marriages, it’s not HOW we are changed to no longer want to run to sin anymore.  I think it’s pretty apparent we are there because we know it’s bad.  So what’s the problem with this kind of Christian marriage counseling? There’s no power public shame to make us like Christ.  What happened is the marriage counselors skipped over the entire first two chapters that remind us of who we are in Christ.  We have completely been forgiven (Col 1:14), been reconciled and because of his blood, we have already been made holy and blameless (Col 1:22). He canceled the record of debt that stood against us by nailing it to the cross (Col 2:14). And so much more! Being reminded of that, do you now want to run out and sin? The power of change is shown to us in 1 Corinthians 3:18 And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. (English Standard Version) As we behold Jesus and His image, we are changed by His Spirit into the same image. It’s called a relationship with God. Not rules and regulations, but a relationship.
