There sound was comparably to the late period of Jimi Hendrix and early Funkadelic. They also had more of a classical soul feel along with elements from acoustic folk rock. Black Merda was infinitely more powerful as a live act. They also benefited strongly from skillful Temptations-like vocals and very strong lyrics about ghetto life and civil rights. Recently, the surviving members of Black Merda reunited for the benefit of their ongoing cult following.

She is the first woman ever to win in the Best Jazz Instrumental Album category in 2013 for Money Jungle: Provocative  To date Ms. Carrington has performed on over 100 recordings and has toured or recorded with luminary artists such as Al Jarreau, Stan Getz, Woody Shaw, Diana Krall, Cassandra Wilson, Dianne Reeves, James Moody, Yellowjackets, Esperanza Spalding , and many more. Ms. Carrington has toured extensively with Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock.  Join us for an evening of great music and conversation.
