In the 17th Century the author Jonathan Swift wrote: “Falsehood flies, and the truth comes limping after it.” In the year 2020 it is apparent falsehood flies as fast as ever in our own, supposedly scientific times. A survey by the Pew Research Center found that a quarter of U.S. adults believe that there's at least some truth to a conspiracy theory that the coronavirus pandemic was intentionally started. Others allege that the outbreak isn't as bad as reported, that a quarter-million Americans haven't died. Official narratives and figures are questioned. The confusion that seems infectious has real and serious consequences. For this weeks episode my guest is Thomas Bowman, a partner with Resolute Strategy, a full-service strategic consulting firm in Richmond Virginia who has been studying covid19 and the conspiracies since March of 2o2o. I reflect back on several people who triggered me in simple conversation and what YOU and I both can do to ensure we don't make others feel such a way.  A group of highly anxious individuals performed at least six acts of kindness a week. We also discuss chronic pain. In the midst of an opioid epidemic it is becoming increasingly difficult to get pain medication in seek of relief. At times the medications barely feel like a bandaid. As a sufferer of chronic pain I began looking for a way to decrease my pain in hopes to have the ability to run again- an action I was told would remain in my past. I’ve have successfully been able to run and go from taking almost 4grams of Tylenol a day for pain to rarely taking it! We discuss the pathophysiology of how pain works and the circuit pathway in relation to the brain. We go through proven research on ways to train your brain to communicate differently to rewire your brain into tolerating what those with chronic pain suffer from. The same one thing can act as an antidepressant. It can DECREASE stress, pain, anxiety, depression and high blood pressure. Halloween has always been my favorite holiday as far back as I could remember. It was a special day that my dad and I always spent together. "We are all humans. We all have a human experience, you know it's important to stop drinking our own juice and listen and validate other peoples' experiences." -RenfieldA patient sparked the interest in this topic when I witnessed a transgender woman in a hospital who treated the staff, especially her nurse horribly. When the nurse was talking about the abuse she was receiving from this patient she still referred to the patient with her chosen name and pronoun preference. I was so amazed at this nurse and the capacity and respect she had to not lash back in madness, but to continue to treat this person as a human being she cared for. Is this the norm in healthcare?I sat and interviewed with a great Transgender man, Renfield. He so graciously took the time to share with us his life and the struggles he went through prior to choosing to make the transition, his family's response, medical care, therapy, his experience of privilege and treatment as a man versus when he was a female, and most importantly his hope in human kind.This podcast includes profanity. It is no secret that it is my mission to open the eyes and minds of people that we can all begin to understand one another and in return spread kindness through our differences. In the Season Finale of First Do No Harm we dial back to find out where it all began for me. My mom, Jan Jackson is the guest on the show (and my biggest support system with this podcast) and she and I chat on how she raised a child to see the world through loving lenses.
