Signs You May Have Experienced Emotional Abuse in The Past

John talks to Ana Ruiz, Transformational Relationship Coach and Demartini Method specialist dedicated to maximising human awareness and potential in individuals and groups. She helps couples to do a ‘different dance’ and turn around their relationships.  Ana and John discuss Ana’s childhood and her resultant trauma, her disorganised attachment style, her first relationship experiences, her discovery of bi-polar disorder and her resultant therapies and how her search for healing led to a career in Relationship Coaching. When John works with his clients in coaching sessions one topic that often arises is the difficulty in finding and achieving an easy and  healthy relationship. This is most likely because they are exhibiting habits that attract them to a particular pattern of behaviour that they are used to. How do we realise that it is actually ourselves that are maintaining and seeking these toxic relationships and break the cycle? Do you find yourself doing things for those that claim that you are more suitable for the task than they are? Or perhaps you find yourself passing off jobs to others because “they can do it better than you”? A common manipulation is to claim incompetence within relationships to achieve the relinquishing of responsibility. Weaponized Incompetence

When Are Suicidal Thoughts a Positive Thing ?

Every environment that you are in creates its own hierarchy of power and within relationships it can dictate how you feel and the level of control that you have. There are five bases of power in every psychological power dynamic no matter where you are or situation that you are in. Recognising power dynamics prepares you to be able to decide how much power you have, how much you hand over and how you can overcome the control others have over you.   KEY TAKEAWAYS  Reward power. How Emotionally Releasing Can Change Your Life

We all have our own ‘apology language’ which denotes the nature and style of the apologies we give and receive. However, there are those who find it very difficult to apologise at all. John explains the reasons why some people find this fairly regular social and relational occurrence so difficult.    KEY TAKEAWAYS  People can feel courageous and less passive if they refuse to offer an apology. Why Some People Won't Apologise

This episode's guest is a former professional footballer who has coached world champions, Hollywood actors, entrepreneurs, CEOs, Olympians and royalty from all over the world on their physical and mental performance. Drawing on Alex’s recently ended relationship experience triggered by a period of personal growth, John defines the common occurrence of transformation of self development and the incompatibility it can produce.   Parental relationships are discussed to show how Alex’s attitude to partnerships were formed. John interviews dating coach, family therapist, author, family business psychologist and all round expert on the properties of love, Dr Diana Kirschner. The Love Expert With Dr Diana Kirschner

Did you realise that we have an apology language? This is the way we express and like to receive things that are difficult to say, including the phrase “I’m Sorry”. People's preferred apology language can be different from person to person, both giving and receiving apologies, and can fluctuate depending on different circumstances. John discusses the nuances of apologies and offers some support on communication in these difficult circumstances, defining the five different apology languages that we employ.   KEY TAKEAWAYS  The phrase  “I’m sorry” can be enough for some people to move on, but for others their apology language can have more complex or precise requirements. Expressing regret. This apology needs to be expressed with understanding of what you are apologising for and acknowledgement of the pain that has been caused. Accepting responsibility. This is when someone openly admits they were wrong in their actions. They name this action clearly to show that they are aware of this. Making restitution. This includes a way to try and make amends and search for a way to correct the wrong when perhaps something has been broken, damaged, lost or forgotten. It includes restitution to the offended person. Genuinely repenting. Here the person will need to review their actions, have genuine regret for them, and make a commitment to prove they are changing. Requesting forgiveness.  This allows time for the person to process their hurt before things can go back to normal. They cannot move on straight away, they need to feel they have the power and the time to decide if things move forward. Some studies have concluded that there are a specific six steps to an apology and it won't be effective at all if these are not completed;  Expression of regret, explanation of what went wrong, acknowledgement of responsibility, a declaration of independence, an offer of a repair, and a request of forgiveness.
