Goal Setting & Managing Expectations with Steve Ellis & Simon Clark

In episode 47, I am once again speaking to British Nordic Walking National Trainer, Steve Ellis, from Malmesbury, Wiltshire.  Steve founded Gemini Outdoor Adventure Ltd, and is a qualified ‘Mountain Leader’ and ‘International Mountain Leader.  Steve is about to move to New Zealand, where he will continue his work as a National Trainer.  During our chat he mentions two other National Trainers, who have been fantastic guests on this show.  Steve was trained initially by Karen Ingram, who has appeared twice to discuss how Nordic Walking can help reduce Back Pain, as well as explaining everything you need to know about Nordic Walking Poles.  Catherine Hughes, who is CEO of British Nordic Walking has shared her knowledge about the history of Nordic Walking. Becoming a Nordic Walking National Trainer with Steve Ellis

Outdoor First Aid with Steve Collis

In episode 43, I am discussing a very relevant topic to the times that we are living in, namely Long Covid..  Today I am joined by Ann, who caught Covid in September 2021 while working as a teaching assistant supporting primary school children with additional needs.  Due to underlying asthma, she became very ill with covid, which led to pneumonia and a three week stint in hospital, including a week in  ITU.  On leaving hospital, Ann struggled just to walk around her house, never mind down the road, as the fatigue was exhausting  and she found it difficult to breathe. By Christmas she’d had enough and decided to take back control of her health. Work-Life Balance : Setting up a Nordic Walking Business with Catrin

In this week’s episode, I am talking to Sam Armstrong from Walx Derwent and Dales, in Derbyshire.  Sam had worked in the fitness industry for several years, when she discovered Nordic Walking.  Recognising the benefits that exercise outdoors had on physical and mental health she was inspired to set up her business and empower others in 2008.  Over the years, Sam’s love of walking has taken her all over Europe and the UK and last year, she qualified as a Mountain Leader. Today I’m talking to Alison Clark from Nottingham.  After a career in nursing, Alison qualified as a Nordic Walking Instructor in August 2017, and works as a volunteer instructor with British Nordic Walking. Projects have introduced her to the needs of a range of people who might feel challenged by a fast paced walk in a group of people they perceive as fitter than them.  She realised that many people find the idea of a ‘workout’ walk  too daunting and intimidating.. Today I’m talking to Vicky Welsh, who regular listeners will remember, as she was my very first guest on Walking On Air, when she eloquently answered the big question of What is Nordic walking. In episode 31, I am chatting to Melissa Domaille about Osteoporosis.  Melissa is a British Nordic Walking instructor, but more relevantly, she is a physio who worked in the NHS for 25 years as a rheumatology specialist and managed the osteoporosis physio service at the Bristol Royal Infirmary.  More recently she conducted a research project with Liz Carver-Richardson to develop a tailored NW programme for people with inflammatory rheumatic diseases. Osteoporosis and Nordic Walking with Melissa Domaille

In this episode, I am speaking to British Nordic Walking National Trainer, Steve Ellis, who is based in Malmesbury, Wiltshire.  Steve combines his passion and experience for fitness and the outdoors in delivering Nordic Walking, Personal Training and ‘Guided Mountain/Hill Days and Skills Courses’ for those who look to ‘get fit &amp; stay fit‘ in the great outdoors.  The founder and co-owner of Gemini Outdoor Adventure Ltd, Steve has been trekking in the mountains of the UK and Europe for the last 30 years, and as such holds both the ‘Mountain Leader’ and ‘International Mountain Leader’ qualifications.  He is passionate about sharing the outdoors with a wider audience of adults and children. Steve also leads UK treks on the Cotswold Way, Brecon Beacons, Black Mountain, Lake District, Peak District, Cairngorms and Snowdonia; as well as overseas trekking holidays to remote places such as the Garfagnana in Tuscany, Ariege in the French Pyrenees, Mt Toubkal, Atlas Mountains in Morocco and the summit of Africa, Kilimanjaro. Altitude, Adventure & Nordic Walking Expeditions with Steve Ellis

In this week’s episode, I interview Marcus Easterling, a British Nordic Walking instructor with Bristol Nordic Walking.  Marcus first picked up a pair of Nordic walking poles in 2013 and was instantly hooked!  The following year he jumped at the chance to train and become an instructor with Bristol Nordic Walking, leading his first class in August 2014. Marcus loves the fact that Nordic Walking is accessible for people of all ages and abilities and great for both body and mind, as well as being a sociable activity.  It is a complete contrast to his day job as a senior dental technician at Bristol University, as it gets him moving and meeting lots of new people.
