6 - Beatdown in Louisville and Wake Forest preview

After taking a break to enjoy the holidays Matt and Michael jumped back into the studio to talk some basketball. You may not have noticed but Florida State is pretty good, and we took a few minutes to break down what happened in Louisville. No, FSU isn’t going to make 11 3s every game, but there are some great takeaways that the team can build on.Plus there is a game tomorrow night in Winston-Salem and we talked about how Wake Forest can pull the upset. Then we gave our predictions so you can see if we think that upset is coming. We also argued whether the 2010’s was the best decade in the history of the program, and reminisced about our favorite games (spoiler: Michael Snaer is still clutch). Finally, we took a quick tour through what you may have missed - like UNC being terrible - during the holidays. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

8 - Virginia mega preview

Matt’s on the road. Michael is sick. Clemson is beating Duke. But we don’t let these things distract us. The No. 9 Florida State basketball team is getting ready to host the defending national champion Virginia Cavaliers, and we’ve got everything you need to know about the game.We break down Virginia’s famous pack line defense - what it is, and how to attack it. Their defense isn’t just legit, it’s battling to be statistically the best defense in decades. And the key to beating it is either Trent Forrest having a great game or avoiding it all together by generating live ball turnovers. We talk about Mamadi Diakite and how Virginia has become a bit one dimensional on offense as opposing coaches are making other players beat them. We spend too much time talking about Kihei Clark, their diminutive point guard who had the luxury of Kyle Guy and Ty Jerome help run the point last year, and is struggling a bit without them. And we discuss their 3-point shooting without even laughing. The game tips at 7 PM on Wednesday from the Tuck. 10 - Notre Dame Preview, thoughts on FSU's 1st Top-5 ranking in 40+ years, Scottie Barnes impresses at the Hoophall Classic

The boys got together to talk about the upcoming Notre Dame game, which has the No. 5 FSU Seminoles playing in prime time in front of a sold out crowd. The Irish are one of the best teams in the nation at taking care of the ball, so we dive into how that could affect the game. The Irish also take and make a ton of 3-pointers.Prior to that discussion, Matt and Michael talk about FSU's new shiny top-5 ranking in the AP Poll. What does that mean, and how should we be thinking about this team? They also list their top websites to visit for both statistical analysis and X's and O's.Finally, 5* signee Scottie Barnes was in the news as his high school team played in the Hoophall Classic. The games were broadcast on ESPN, and though Michael isn't a huge fan of watching high school hoops on television, he took one for the team and offers his impression on this uber recruit. Barnes was also bumped up this morning at Rivals from the No. 8 player in the nation to the No. 4. We'll wait to see how that affects his composite rating at 247, but it's highly likely that he'll be the highest rated recruit at FSU in the modern era. Learn more about your ad choices. 18 - NC State recap / NET for dummies (like us) / Louisville preview / Bryce McGowens Sardaar Calhoun

Florida State picked up an all-important Quad 1 win vs. NC State. After breaking down what went well (hello Malik Osborne and MJ Walker), what didn't (and why four guys played 20 minutes in the 2nd half), we do a deep dive on FSU's resume through a tournament filter. Want to know why Seton Hall (19-7) is competing with FSU for seeding? You get your answer. As well as how a wild Saturday on the national scene potentially shook up the standings. Then it's back to Louisville. FSU has a huge rematch with the Cardinals, and absolutely needs to win to have a legitimate shot at the ACC regular season "title." The Cards got hot after losing at home to Florida State, but then went through a rough spell while their star Jordan Nwora struggled. But all appears back on course as they crushed North Carolina on Saturday, and Nwora had a ho-hum double-double.At the end we briefly mention the silly stat lines being put up by players committed to FSU. Rogner gets so excited talking about it that he forgets to mention that 5* PG Kennedy Chandler begins his official visit today. If you want to know what recruiting 5*s is like, yesterday Chandler was at Kentucky who just happened to get a surprise visit from John Wall. What a coincidence! Learn more about your ad choices. 5 - Holiday pod extravaganza; Gifts for the FSU basketball team; Is Tony Bennett the basketball version of Jimbo Fisher?

Christmas eve is one of the only days during the season when there are no college basketball games to watch. So Michael and Matt got together to talk FSU's best lineup as well as who from the current roster will be playing in the NBA. Plus they hand out plenty of holiday gifts, debate the merits of ham (the food, not the coach), and drink a little whiskey. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

13 - Duke preview, Miami recap, fare thee well Bud

After watching Florida State drop 99 on Miami, Matt and Michael get together to discuss how good the team played, which pretty much encapsulated the entire roster. The first half defense was terrible, but Coach Hamilton was able to make a nice adjustment to which Miami had no answer. Always a fun rivalry game when it ends with the Green Vipers making it rain.During the Miami game, the NCAA released their initial bracket which captures the top-16 seeds. FSU was obviously in the bracket, and we discuss where they currently are, and how difficult it will be to move up to that 2-seed line. Then it's on to Duke. FSU has a top-10 matchup on Monday night. Will FSU sell out to stop Vernon Carey, and leave guys like Tre Jones and Cassius Stanley available to go bananas? Who on FSU's roster could be primed for a big game? How much would a loss matter? To wrap up the pod, we say farewell to our fearless leader Bud Elliot who is leaving Tomahawk Nation for his next challenge. Learn more about your ad choices. 19 - Louisville beatdown recap /Peak FSU / Can FSU earn a 1-seed in the NCAAT?

The second half blowout of Louisville had our heads spinning, and we spend plenty of time discussing how it all happened and who was responsible. Matt talks a bunch about the atmosphere, which was absolutely electric, and slots it into his 20+ years of experience at the Tuck. But were not here at Tomahawk Nation to only talk about all the great things. So we dove into a couple of underlying issues which you may have missed in the excitement. We could have given long spiels about any of nine or ten guys, but in the interest of time we limit the kudos to the highlights. Go back and watch the last 22 minutes of the game if you want to see Ham ball in all its glory. From there we naturally transition to Tiger Woods (shoutout to the Cat) and Bobby Bowden. There's actually a method to our madness, but you'll probably have to just listen to us discussing peak FSU which somehow ends with us fantasizing about Michael Snaer on this team.We wrap things up with a discussion about potential paths to a 1-seed in the NCAA Tournament. That would obviously begin with a win this weekend at Clemson. We'll be back soon with a quick Clemson preview pod. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

16 - Mail bag / Syracuse post game / Pitt preview

It's always fun to beat Syracuse. Jim Boeheim was his usual jovial self in the post-game. Coach Hamilton remained tight-lipped about why Devin Vassell didn't play. And MJ Walker had a fat lip. Good game!We break down how Florida State was able to pull the win despite missing their leading scorer. We range over a bunch of topics including offensive rebounding, turnovers, 3-point defense, and high level (literally) play from Patrick Williams. Before the break we go to the mail bag! Lots of great questions from listeners, though on our cheat sheet the selfish producers failed to include the listener's name who asked the question, so you must live in Tomhawk Nation anonymity. We press them harder next time. We cover recruiting, lineups, adjustments, seeding, and the length of Coach Ham's tenure. Finally, we go back to November and talk about what is different this time around vs. Pitt. After FSU was forced to play Pitt in the season opening ACC money grab round, the two teams now meet again, though each team is a bit altered now. Learn more about your ad choices. 17 - Pitt recap / ACC and national look-in / NC State preview

There isn't a ton to talk about from the Pitt game as it played out pretty much exactly as predicted. The starters did struggle, and we discuss what that means moving forward. We also go a bit in depth on some of the stars from the bench. Patrick Williams, Dom Olejniczak, and Balsa Koprivica all had good games. This game coupled with Duke's unexpected blowout loss at NC State created a log jam atop the ACC with FSU, Louisville, and Duke all now having three losses. We discuss the various scenarios where FSU can win the regular season "title."Next we talk about the national scene. Where is FSU trending for seeding? What other seeds are realistic? And who to root for in the bevy of interesting games this weekend. Finally, we tackle NC State and we have a split decision on the prediction. What do the Wolfpack do well, and how can Florida State exploit some of their weaknesses? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

9 - FSU vs. Miami post game

Take the win and go home. After a stressful 83-79 OT win, the Seminoles are now 16-2 (6-1) and tied atop the ACC.Matt and Michael got together post game to talk about what went well and what didn't. Devin Vassell, MJ Walker, and Anthony Polite got a lot of love, while FSU's clunky offensive performance and Coach Hamilton's management of the rotation took some shots. But the end result was that FSU won its 9th straight overtime game, and you have to go back to 2008 to find an OT game vs. an ACC opponent where FSU came up on the short end. And considering what has been happening to top-10 teams of late, stretching out that OT streak will garner the 'Noles a lot of votes in next week's AP Poll. Now Florida State has a week off, and will be back in action next Saturday against Notre Dame. 15 - FSU basketball vs. Syracuse preview

The Orange are coming to town, with or without their best player Elijah Hughes. The junior hurt himself in warmups on Tuesday, and will likely be a gametime decision. Coach Boeheim can be as tight lipped about injuries as Leonard Hamilton, so unless Hughes doesn't travel with the team I am guessing that this is all we are going to hear.In his absence, Syracuse lost a close game at NC State. Boeheim doesn't really trust his bench, so four players went at least 37 minutes and two played the whole game. His son Buddy was one of the those players, and we talk about his development from last year's mediocre freshman season.Other topics covered include how to attack the Syracuse zone and who on FSU's roster is best suited to do that; the likelihood that Syracuse will bait FSU into a 3-point shooting contest; and some historical tidbits about Ham and Boeheim. As a bonus for all you derelicts out there, we make ACC picks for the weekend. As always, these picks are not for betting purposes, but if you'd like to share some winnings we prefer Venmo. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
