PARABLES #1 | I Have Something To Tell You | July 3, 2022 Logan Holloman | NextGen Pastor When one of the Pharisees invited Jesus to have dinner with him, he went to the Pharisee’s house and reclined at the table. A woman in that town who lived a sinful life learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee’s house, so she came there with an alabaster jar of perfume. As she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them. When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is—that she is a sinner.” Jesus answered him, “Simon, I have something to tell you.” “Tell me, teacher,” he said. “Two people owed money to a certain moneylender. One owed him five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. Neither of them had the money to pay him back, so he forgave the debts of both. Now which of them will love him more?” Simon replied, “I suppose the one who had the bigger debt forgiven.” “You have judged correctly,” Jesus said. Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet. You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet. Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.” Then Jesus said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.” The other guests began to say among themselves, “Who is this who even forgives sins?” Jesus said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.” Luke 7:36-50 (NIV) When he said this, he called out, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.” His disciples asked him what this parable meant. He said, “The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of God has been given to you, but to others I speak in parables, so that, “‘though seeing, they may not see; though hearing, they may not understand.’” Luke 8:8b-10 (NIV) What is a parable? Parables show us who Jesus is, what’s he’s up to, and how God’s kingdom works. Why parables? Who Jesus is… What Jesus is up to… Does your life acknowledge what Jesus has done for you? Reflection Questions: 1) Are there any story tellers in your life? Friends, family? What makes them great storytellers? 2) What is your experience with the parables of Jesus? Do they seem daunting, confusing, comforting, etc? IT'S COMPLICATED | Marriage | June 26, 2022, 2022 Sam Knight | Guest Speaker Ephesians 5:21-33 (ESV) Submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ. Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands. Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, because we are members of his body. “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband. “Wives submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord.” 1) Acknowledging a divine order 2) Recognition of spiritual leadership 3) Voluntary sacrifice “Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.” 1) Unmerited 2) Intensely 3) Intentionally 4) Unending 5) Selflessly 6) Manifestly 7) Sacrificially It’s even more complicated without Christ at the center of everything! Reflection Questions: 1) The New Testament has several passages that call for people to be submitted. How do these passages help qualify Paul’s intention in this passage from Ephesians 5? 2) What does the Bible teach about how authority is to be exercised? How should this affect the way you treat those over whom you have authority? 3) Why is Paul’s argument for the husband’s headship within marriage so important? Where have you seen this practiced well and when have you seen this abused? 4) What is the nature of the wife’s submission? What is it not? What examples can you think about that help you understand this command Paul gives? 5) Paul writes that husbands are to love their wives “as Christ loved the church” (5:25). How does what he says about the relationship between Christ and the church apply to husbands and wives? 6) He goes on to assert that husbands are to love their wives “as their own bodies” (5:28). Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. Deuteronomy 6:4-9 (NIV)   Three Ideas for Cultivating an “Impressive Faith”: 1) Start with your Heart “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength.” Deuteronomy 6:5 (NIV) 2) Delight in your Daughters and Strengthen your Sons 3) Honor your parents “Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live long and that it may go well with you in the land the Lord your God is giving you.” Deuteronomy 5:16 (NIV)   One ordinary piece of furniture that can transform your family: The Table   Take the Table Challenge: Gather around the table as a family this week, without screens, to have great food, drink, and a conversation about faith. IT'S COMPLICATED | Friendships | June 12, 2022 Bob Schwahn | Lead Pastor https://www.journeyweb.net/gather/   Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness…” Genesis 1:26 (NIV) The LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.” Genesis 2:18 (NIV)   One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. Proverbs 18:24 (NIV)   TIME: A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity. Proverbs 17:17 (NIV)   TRANSPARENCY: Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy. Proverbs 28:13 (NIV)   TRUTH: Whoever rebukes a person will in the end gain favor rather than one who has a flattering tongue. Proverbs 28:23 (NIV) Better is open rebuke than hidden love. Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses. Proverbs 27:5-6 (NIV)   TENACITY:  As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another. Proverbs 27:17 (NIV)   A true friend ALWAYS lets you in, NEVER lets you down.   My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. WHISPER #4 | Pain | May 22, 2022Bob Schwahn | Lead Pastor 1) I am with you in your pain…The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. The righteous person may have many troubles, but the LORD delivers him from them all... Psalm 34:18-19 (NIV) C.S. Lewis – The Problem of PainWe can ignore even pleasure. But pain insists upon being attended to. God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pains: it is his megaphone to rouse a deaf world. 2) I understand your pain…During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with fervent cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. Son though he was, he learned obedience from what he suffered… Hebrews 5:7-8 (NIV) 3) I will redeem your pain…Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 (NIV) C.S. Lewis - Mere ChristianityAim at heaven and you will get earth thrown in. Aim at earth and you get neither. 4) Praise me in your pain…At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship and said: “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart. The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised.” In all this, Job did not sin by charging God with wrongdoing. Job 1:20-22 (NIV) Listen to my words, Lord; consider my sighing. WHISPER | People | May 1, 2022 Bob Schwahn | Lead Pastor   So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work. Ephesians 4:11-16 (NIV)  Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst? 1 Corinthians 3:16 (NIV)   Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. 1 Corinthians 2:10B-12 (NIV)   Reflection Questions: Read Ephesians 4:11-16  1) How have you seen God speak through another person into your life? How has God used you to speak into the life of another person?   2) Who are people in your life that you love and trust to be able to speak the truth in love? Who are those you can share your hidden self with? What about their life makes you trust them?   3) What does it take to develop those kind of “truth in love” relationships? Do you have a regular rhythm of meeting with people who you talk about what God is speaking to them about?    4) Why is it important to bring our hidden self (hopes, dreams, struggles, fears, sin, etc.) into the open with other people? What is the cost of failing to engage with people around our hidden self?   5) Have you had a time where someone was able to speak to an issue in your life and they did it really well? Or really poorly? What made it positive or negative?   6) Why is it important and helpful to give people permission to speak into your life (i.e. inviting feedback)?   7) Why can it be difficult to share our hidden self? Why can it be difficult to speak words of truth to others? What are your fears around this? WHISPER | People | May 1, 2022 Bob Schwahn | Lead Pastor So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work. Ephesians 4:11-16 (NIV)  Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst? 1 Corinthians 3:16 (NIV) Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. James 5:16 (NIV) Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses. Proverbs 27:6 (NIV)  But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouraging and comfort. 1 Corinthians 14:3 (NIV) The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. 1 Corinthians 2:10B-12 (NIV) Reflection Questions: Read Ephesians 4:11-16  1) How have you seen God speak through another person into your life? How has God used you to speak into the life of another person? 2) Who are people in your life that you love and trust to be able to speak the truth in love? Who are those you can share your hidden self with? What about their life makes you trust them? 3) What does it take to develop those kind of “truth in love” relationships? Do you have a regular rhythm of meeting with people who you talk about what God is speaking to them about?  4) Why is it important to bring our hidden self (hopes, dreams, struggles, fears, sin, etc.) into the open with other people? What is the cost of failing to engage with people around our hidden self? 5) Have you had a time where someone was able to speak to an issue in your life and they did it really well? Or really poorly? What made it positive or negative? 6) Why is it important and helpful to give people permission to speak into your life (i.e. inviting feedback)? 7) Why can it be difficult to share our hidden self? Why can it be difficult to speak words of truth to others? What are your fears around this? WHISPER | Promptings | April 24, 2022 Bob Schwahn | Lead Pastor   1 Kings 19:11-13 (NIV) The LORD said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. Then a voice said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”  1) Why does God whisper?   Oswald Chambers: “The checks of the Spirit come in the most extraordinarily gentle ways, and if you are not sensitive enough to detect His voice you will quench it, and your personal spiritual life will be impaired. His checks always come as a still small voice…”   2) What makes God’s whispers hard to hear?   2 Corinthians 10:4-5 (NIV) The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.  3) How do we respond to whispers?   Hebrews 3:15; 4:7; Psalm 95:7-8 (NIV) “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.”    Reflection Questions: 1) Describe a time when you had trouble hearing someone (poor sound quality at an event, loud conversation over lunch, soft spoken co-worker in a meeting, etc.). How do you feel when you can’t hear someone well?  2) How well would you say you hear the voice of God? Why do you  think that is?   3) What things in our life can make it difficult to hear God’s voice?   4) When have you heard the voice of God most clearly in your life?     5) What sorts of lies keep us from hearing God’s voice? What have those lies been in your life?   6) What are some unique ways that God spoke to people in the Bible? What are some unique ways God has communicated with you? How did that experience affect your relationship with God?   7) How does God speak to us through engaging the Bible? How have you learned to hear God’s voice from the Bible? What does that process look like for you?   8) What could you do specifically to make God’s whispers louder in your life?  What would you need to change? As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. “Good teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?” “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone. You know the commandments: ‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, you shall not defraud, honor your father and mother.’” “Teacher,” he declared, “all these I have kept since I was a boy.” Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” At this the man’s face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth. Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!” Mark 10:17-23 (NIV)  Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. He wanted to see who Jesus was, but because he was short he could not see over the crowd. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way. When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.” So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly. All the people saw this and began to mutter, “He has gone to be the guest of a sinner.” But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.” Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” Luke 19:1-10 (NIV)  Then, calling the crowd to join his disciples, he said, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will save it. And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul? If anyone is ashamed of me and my message in these adulterous and sinful days, the Son of Man will be ashamed of that person when he returns in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.” Mark 8:34-38 (NLT) Is anything worth more than your soul? ENOUGH #6 | Best Trade Ever | April 10, 2022 | Journey Church | Bozeman, Montana

ENOUGH | Are You Enough? Bob Schwahn | Lead Pastor   Mark 6:30-44 (NIV) And so it was with me, brothers and sisters. When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God. For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. I came to you in weakness with great fear and trembling. My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power. 1 Corinthians 2:1-5 (NIV)   After the people saw the sign Jesus performed, they began to say, “Surely this is the Prophet who is to come into the world.” Jesus, knowing that they intended to come and make him king by force, withdrew again to a mountain by himself. John 6:14-15 (NIV)   Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves…  Mark 6:41A (NIV)  While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take it; this is my body.” Mark 14:22 (NIV)   Reflection Questions: 1) Have you ever been in a situation where you wondered if you had what it takes? Where you wondered if you were enough? Share that experience. How did you respond? 2) Have you ever sensed God leading you in a direction where you questioned if you were enough? How did you respond to that circumstance? 3) Why can it be easier to see the horizontal view (life and circumstances and challenges) and not the vertical view (an opportunity for Jesus to grow our faith)? 4) Jesus came to start a revolution but not a military or political revolution. What are the characteristics of Jesus’ revolution? 5) Jesus responded to the needs of the people with bread. The bread of the Word (he began to teach) AND physical bread. What does this example mean for us? Are peoples’ “felt needs” sometimes different from what they really need? How can you determine what are the real needs of the people to whom you shepherd?  6) How have you observed Jesus stretching you in your faith recently? How did you respond or how will you respond?  7) Have you ever known of a situation where the resources and manpower were clearly inadequate to complete the ministry task that God had unquestionably assigned? What happened? John 6:14-15 (NIV) Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves…  Mark 6:41A (NIV)  While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take it; this is my body.” Mark 14:22 (NIV) Reflection Questions: 1) Have you ever been in a situation where you wondered if you had what it takes? Where you wondered if you were enough? Share that experience. How did you respond? 2) Have you ever sensed God leading you in a direction where you questioned if you were enough? How did you respond to that circumstance? 3) Why can it be easier to see the horizontal view (life and circumstances and challenges) and not the vertical view (an opportunity for Jesus to grow our faith)? 4) Jesus came to start a revolution but not a military or political revolution. What are the characteristics of Jesus’ revolution? 5) Jesus responded to the needs of the people with bread. The bread of the Word (he began to teach) AND physical bread. What does this example mean for us? Are peoples’ “felt needs” sometimes different from what they really need? How can you determine what are the real needs of the people to whom you shepherd?  6) How have you observed Jesus stretching you in your faith recently? How did you respond or how will you respond?  7) Have you ever known of a situation where the resources and manpower were clearly inadequate to complete the ministry task that God had unquestionably assigned? ENOUGH | Lord of the Sabbath | March 27, 2022 Bob Schwahn | Lead Pastor   Mark 2:23-3:6 (NIV) He looked around at them in anger and, deeply distressed at their stubborn hearts… Mark 3:5A (NIV) Then the Pharisees went out and began to plot with the Herodians how they might kill Jesus. Mark 3:6 (NIV) “If you love me, keep my commands.” John 14:15 (NIV)  “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:34-35 (NIV) “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”  Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV) What Does Love Require of Me?   Reflection Questions: 1) Do you have more of a tendency to find faults in other people or to find ways to commend and encourage them?  2) Is there any situation where it is our right and our duty to find fault in others?  3) What rules do you find yourself using to judge the spirituality of yourself and others? 4) What is God’s heart for us in providing a Sabbath? If Sabbath means to “cease”, where are places in your life that you need to “cease” striving and rest in God? 5) With regard to God’s commandments, why is it helpful to ask how God wants to protect and provide for us and others through this command?  6) What kinds of people make you angry? How do you relate to people who are caught up in a cycle of self-destructive sin? How do you relate to people who claim to be righteous but who flout the ways of God? 7) How does answering the question, “What does love require of me?” help us with making moral, ethical, relational, and spiritual decisions? Is this more or less demanding than simply keeping commandments? 8) Give some examples of how applying the question, “What does love require of me?” change the way you live and make decisions. ENOUGH | How Healthy Is Your Soul? |  March 20, 2022 Brian Van Eps | Teaching Pastor   Mark 2:13-17 (NIV) Once again Jesus went out beside the lake. A large crowd came to him, and he began to teach them. As he walked along, he saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” Jesus told him, and Levi got up and followed him. While Jesus was having dinner at Levi’s house, many tax collectors and sinners were eating with him and his disciples, for there were many who followed him. When the teachers of the law who were Pharisees saw him eating with the sinners and tax collectors, they asked his disciples: “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?” On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” How healthy is your soul? A Healthy Soul Test: How much love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control are evident in your life? When the teachers of the law who were Pharisees saw him eating with the sinners and tax collectors, they asked his disciples: “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?” v. 16 Being good isn't enough The enemy of Jesus meeting your needs: Pride On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” v. 17 When we think that we are enough, we don’t leave room for Jesus to be enough. ENOUGH | What Is Our Deepest Need? |  March 13, 2022 Bob Schwahn | Lead Pastor Mark 2:1-12 (NIV)  A few days later, when Jesus again entered Capernaum, the people heard that he had come home. They gathered in such large numbers that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them. Some men came, bringing to him a paralyzed man, carried by four of them. Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus by digging through it and then lowered the mat the man was lying on. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” Now some teachers of the law were sitting there, thinking to themselves, “Why does this fellow talk like that? He’s blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?” Immediately Jesus knew in his spirit that this was what they were thinking in their hearts, and he said to them, “Why are you thinking these things? Which is easier: to say to this paralyzed man, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up, take your mat and walk’? But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the man, “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.” He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all. This amazed everyone and they praised God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this!”    Reflection Questions: 1) What is your greatest need in life? 2) Why do we tend to focus on our circumstantial needs more than our deepest spiritual needs? 3) What are your deepest spiritual needs? How do you need to see Jesus heal you of areas of sin in your life? Take time to pray over these with Jesus and others. 4) Why can it be difficult to see spiritual needs in others when the circumstances of their life appear to be going really well? 5) The four friends had faith that Jesus could observe – it took action. How can we observe faith in others? How can people observe your faith? 6) Who in your sphere of influence has spiritual needs? Who needs the healing of forgiveness found in Jesus? STRONG | The Race Marked For Us | February 27, 2022 Logan Holloman | NextGen Pastor    2 Timothy 4:1-22(NIV) Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers. 1 Timothy 4:16 (NIV) I only know that in every city the Holy Spirit warns me that prison and hardships are facing me. However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace. Acts 20:23-24 (NIV) I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings. Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. 1 Corinthians 9:23-25 (NIV)  Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. Hebrews 12:1-3 (NIV)  What are the stories people share about you?  Practice what you preach “Running the race” How do we run the race marked out for us?  • Run your race  • Champion others along the way  • Keep the faith, no matter the cost   Reflection Questions: 1) Who is a Paul in your life? Timothy? 2) How confident are you in “the race marked out for you”?  3) Hebrews 12 encourages us to “throw off everything that hinders and sin that entangles”, what might that be in your life? Perhaps pray for the Holy Spirit to reveal potential areas. 4) How can your Journey community help you fight the good fight, finish the race, and keep the faith?
