How Do You Rank Against Golfers Your Age?

What We Learned From The US Open

Have you ever heard of SIFY?  No, not Lady Sif and the warriors three from the Thor movies, but Shots Inside Fifty Yards.  This has been a metric I've been following closer and closer so I can determine what is really holding back my score.Most people will average a little more than 36 putts per round and (especially weekend golfers) will probably miss 16/18 greens in regulation.  If we're really being honest with ourselves we can probably say of those 16 greens we miss, we will also duff or skull a couple of those and wind up with multiple chips on one hole.  My point being, if you track this and see a number around 60, don't be afraid, let's just dive deeper into the what caused it!If you want even more detailed stats, look at how long your first putt is after a SIFY shot.  That will tell you if your chipping or putting is in more urgent need of attention.  At the beginning I would suggest just looking at whether or not you ended up inside or outside of 20 feet.  If you can consistently land inside 20 feet from your chips, you are doing better than the average weekend golfer and should be more focused on your putting.  Obviously, if that's not the case then you need to spend more time chipping.If you want some help with either of these you can sign up for our 5 strokes in 5 days challenge, which will walk you through 5 different practice routines that will drastically help your SIFY metrics!  Get this free challenge by clicking here: https://www.golfstrategyacademy.com/5in5Friend of the show Chris Finn from Par 4 Success has put together a free assessment to see how your four main rotation centers measure up to other golfers.  Visit par4success.com/griffin to get your free assessment!

Golf Strategy School Podcast

I was playing golf with my father in law the other day and he was really dialed in to the pace of his putts, but he kept on missing them left and right.  He finally confessed that he’s never really had a good way of reading greens or the finer details in his putts.  This prompted me to share the strategy that I use with my daughter who’s eight years old.At home during the Wisconsin winter we work on mechanics and how to make consistent contact in the middle of the putter face.  Once the spring thaw hits we go out to the greens and work on interpreting the line and path of each putt.  The best way I found to explain it was to break the putt down in sections.  When you have a putt that’s under 10 feet and you can’t quite decide which way it breaks try breaking it into halves.  Think about what would happen if you putted straight at the hole.  How much would it break?  Where would it end up?  What would it look like half way through?*Pro tip* The first half of the putt will not break as much as the second half because the ball will be movin​g faster.Once you know where the first half of the putt will stop you want to imagine what would happen as it runs the rest of the way out.  From there you simply look at how far below the hole the ball would’ve stopped.  This tells you exactly how far left or right you need to aim.The longer the putt gets the more sections you need to break it down into.  For me I follow this handy guide.10’ &gt; read it in two stages11’ – 30’ read it in three stages30’ &lt; read it in four stagesIn the case of my father in law it was a blessing for him and a curse for me.  He started making putts left and right and I lost the round.  For my daughter it was an easy introduction to how things work around the green.  See how this works for you and let me know what you think in the comments below.Friend of the show Chris Finn from Par 4 Success has put together a free assessment to see how your four main rotation centers measure up to other golfers.  Visit par4success.com/griffin to get your free assessment!

The 40 yard pitch shot can be one of the toughest shots in golf.  Frankly, it tends to be my personal nemesis.
