We’re back! Just for a minute.

We’re past the halfway mark of the 2019 regular season and most dynasty teams are at a crossroads. Surrendering to a lost season due to injuries or just plain old bad luck seems depressing, but the promise of next year keeps dynasty managers in tune with what’s going on week to week. With so much attention on redraft and DFS action, dynasty can sometimes take a back seat. But the DOM crew got back together with the lovely Russ Fisher to go over some processes any dynasty manager can apply given their situation. Talking through some of our own bad decisions can lead to a better understanding of the path forward with an eye on the championship in 2019 or rebuilding for 2020 or beyond.

Topics Discussed:

  • Adam’s terrible team
  • Being honest with your team and its standing within the league
  • When to sell vets and begin rebuilding

We speculate on projected volume based on a player’s salary. Derek gives the DOM duo the basics on what owners can glean from the information out there.

  • How to properly value player contracts as a dynasty owner
  • Free agency with respect to a position
  • Team discussions: Denver, Cleveland

The dynasty community is getting restless as the countdown to the NFL Draft continues. As your inbox fills with trade offers, it’s important to understand if you even need to make a move before we see how the league values these players. The DOM crew had Shane Manila (@DFF_Shane) stop in to discuss that very topic. Fear of missing out and the desire to do anything fantasy relevant can be a real and sometimes detrimental reaction in dynasty. Without understanding how your entire roster might perform or the picks you’ve acquired, you could be sitting on a championship team without requiring any additional moves. Patience is a difficult practice and Shane helps describe what situations best call for each eaction.

Topics Discussed:

  • Always staying connected to the NFL…to a point
  • Marquise Brown – Worth a first-round pick?
  • Using MFL tools to rate your team
  • Types of rosters to determine moves going into the offseason
  • Approach to the 2019 class

The offseason is when the public spends most of its time on Narrative Street. Evidence-based takes fall into the background as we argue over prospect highlight reels and what-if scenarios regarding draft position or NFL production. It’s a season unto itself.

We had to bring Peter back to help us zero in on what matters. Or, at least, what doesn’t matter. His analysis into college production gives us the signals and thresholds for prospects. Are they 100% effective? Nope. But we can extract a process for evaluating a player based on what information is available. Outliers or players that buck the trend can come from any class. But as dynasty managers, we’ll need something to clue us in on a player’s potential to keep them on our squad.

We’re a week out from the 2019 season and the offseason debates will finally be settled. Sort of. Through the chaos that is the regular season, it can be hard to find definitive proof who’s right or wrong. Right, wrong, or right for the wrong reasons still gives us an opportunity to review the information we used to get us to our decision. Our process is always something we can adjust and a healthy combination of analytics and narratives can get us there. There’s nobody better than the Mayor of Narrative Street to give us insight into how to use them to our advantage. Bloom outlines his thought process to the DOM crew using the 2019 offseason as a backdrop. With the season upon us, it’s time to pay attention and wait for new information to adjust our strategy.

It’s over. The draft has come and gone and rookie drafts are already underway. The problem is that landing spots have changed our perception about many of the players and their value.
