On this week’s episode, we have Katt Philipps joining us to share her journey when she started as a special effects makeup artist after throwing a dart at a map, then becoming a Licensed Esthetician, Master Makeup Artist and founder of Grafin Skin And Beauty by creating fiercely loyal clients. I am sure you are all wondering what are her secrets in creating such a successful six-figure business on her own so drop everything that you’re doing and tune in now! For all the links, visit the show notes page: Click here! Biggest Takeaways from Katt: “I had learned probably from watching my old boss just how important it was to create a relationship and I just couldn’t leave it so that’s why I started it.” “My business, I hit six-figures in the first eight months of being on business. I don’t really know what happened and I think it has less to do with me and I think it has more to do with the amazing men and women that come in into my business everyday.” “Everything that we do is different for everybody that comes in.” “Probably what I draw on more than anything else is my schooling in Philosophy. Because in Philosophy, there’s a right ,a wrong and a middle and I think beauty is absolutely that. There’s a left, a right and a middle and the truth is always in the middle. So I think I use that, I mean everyday with every person.” “With my clients, I don’t do a lot of add-ons. I have a one-price facial. I really have no menu. My menu says it’s your first time in or you’ve just been with me forever. We do just exactly what’s right for your skin every time. And it’s always a conversation.” “The first time you come in to see me, you’re my client. The second time you come to see me, you’re my friend. The third time you come to see me, if you have no place to go at Christmas, you have a place on my table and that’s how I run everything with everyone that walks into my clinic’s doors.” “I think if you treat people the way you would your favorite person in your family, they’ll do the same for you and so that’s been the huge portion of it.” “I can’t survive if I’m your dirty little secret. People need to know about me and it’s really amazing, I think that people love seeing businesses grow when you’re really trying and you’re honest about these are things that you really need. I think that humans will like to raise each other up, makes us feel good.” “If you help someone out build their own empire, they’ll help build yours.” “I realized that free doesn’t mean free to anybody, it means it is not good enough.” “If you have something that’s worth a $100 and you sell it for $50, that’ll never be worth a hundred dollars ever again.” “I would say that I think it’s really important to apprentice and work underneath someone else before you try to go off on your own as well. And when you do go off on your own, there’s no need to burn a bridge.” Episode Highlights: Take On Working with Clients (13:20) Starting Grafin Skin And Beauty (16:03) Katt’s Journey As A One-Woman Salon (16:51) Services Offered at Grafin Skin And Beauty (19:42) Bespoke and Tweaking (23:23) Having No Menu (26:15) Ways To Get New Clients (28:32) Effective Client Getting Strategy that Started with a Lollipop (37:12) Referrals and Reviews (43:11) Advice For Those in the Health and Beauty Industry (50:19) This Episode is brought to you by: This episode of The Beauty Business Podcast was supported by Kabbage.com.
