Nature vs Narcissism is a true crime/comedy podcast based in Cincinnati, Ohio where Heather and her guests discuss true crimes and the narcissists who commit them. Sometimes we have alcohol and sometimes things get weird. In Season 1, we went down the alphabet focusing on different murderers and/or stupid criminals based on their name. For example; Episode 1 examines two notorious murderers whose names begin with the letter A. Season 2 we will go down the alphabet focusing on different serial killers/spree killers/murderers who were from or committed most of their crimes in cities/towns with each respective letter of the alphabet. For example, we may focus on someone from Cincinnati, Ohio for the letter C. Every episode is different and every episode is entertaining! We will delve into whether we think nature made the criminals commit these heinous acts, or if it's simply their narcissism getting the best of them. Keep in mind, this podcast is strictly for entertainment purposes and is in no way a professional diagnosis of the subjects discussed.

The Best Episodes Ranked Using User Listens

*This is a listener FAVORITE from Season 2. We are using a new format and recording style for Season 3 and beyond. We have kept this episode on the main feed as it was one that the listeners loved.

In this episode, Heather is joined by Danielle from Hoosier Homicide to discuss Herbert Baumeister. He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1947 and died after a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head in 1996. He was on the run from police who were searching his 18-acre farm for bodies of his victims – of which they found at least 11. Now, it is debated as to whether or not he killed more than 11 and to this day, he is not technically considered a confirmed serial killer as police were never able to prove it AND he killed himself before being apprehended. His victim type was young homosexual men whom he would pick up from gay bars and take to his mansion where he would have sex with them (often using auto erotic asphyxiation to pleasure himself) and then (presumably) kill and dispose of their bodies.

HEATHER IS FANGIRLING!!!  In this episode, Heather invites Nick and Jessa from the Getting Off Podcast to discuss everyone’s eye candy serial killer; aka the Lady Killer, Ted Bundy.  Although the Nature vs Narcissism Podcast has covered Ted Bundy in the past (Episode 2), we thought it would be fun to discuss Ted with folks who understand and are a part of the criminal justice system.  Since Nick and Jessa are defense attorneys, we thought it would be fun to do a crossover episode where they break down the Chi Omega trial and share their expert opinions as well as their personal thoughts on the case as a whole!  We have a blast and learn a lot about Jessa’s ‘wayward youth’, as Nick describes it!  This episode was a blast and I learned a lot in Part 2; which is over on the Getting Off feed.  You will probably learn a lot and may have even acquitted him if you knew what we now know about the case and evidence!!  Be sure to check out Frozen Truth as a new season will be airing on June 24th! The last day that Alissa Marie Turney was seen by anyone was on the last day of school on May 17, 2001. There were several things about Michael’s actions this day that stood out to both Scott Fuller and myself when we originally took on Alissa’s case for Status Pending.

Since covering her case on Status Pending, Scott and I have had the chance to really get to know Sarah and we’ve become very close friends with her. Additionally, along the way, we’ve come to know and learn so much more about Alissa’s case than I ever imagined. Not only from talking to Sarah on a regular basis, but from Sarah creating her own podcast and sharing the story with hundreds of thousands more people! Sarah is doing some pretty amazing things for Alissa’s case and I feel like a proud momma watching her dedication, determination, persistence, love, and hard work pay off!

In this listener request episode, Heather sits down with Sarah Turney to talk about her sister's case.

*This is a listener FAVORITE from Season 2. We are using a new format and recording style for Season 3 and beyond. We have kept this episode on the main feed as it was one that the listeners loved.

The Hololulu Strangler is responsible for the murders of 5 women between 1985 and 1986. He has yet to be caught. All victims were found with their hands bound behind their backs
sexually assaulted, strangled, but they varied in age and background (17-36 years old). His victims were Vicki Gail Purdy (25), Regina Sakamoto (17), Denise Hughes (21), Louise Medeiros (25), and Linda Pesce (36). Police thought for sure that they had their guy, but circumstantial evidence wasn't enough to hold him. This suspect ended up moving to California and died in 2005. None of these cases have ever been solved AND after some more digging/investigating for the production of a true crime show last year; there may have been at least one more victim from 1982. Additionally, the police may have had their killer, had DNA testing been an option in 1986.

*This is a listener FAVORITE from Season 2. We are using a new format and recording style for Season 3 and beyond. We have kept this episode on the main feed as it was one that the listeners loved.

This will be our FINAL episode of Season 2. We know that we haven't finished the alphabet but there are some changes coming to the format, based on what the listeners want. More to come in the following days/announcements on this.
In this episode, Heather is joined by Roseanne from the Killafornia Dreaming podcast to discuss Tommy Lynn Sells. Tommy was born in Oakland, California on June 28, 1964 and was a serial killer who was known to rape his victims. He gave himself the moniker of Coast to Coast Killer as he murdered his victims from states all over the nation. Although he only had a handful of confirmed victims, he claimed to have killed 70 people. One of the most disturbing aspects about this case, and really about Tommy himself, is that he didn't have a type as far as his victims. He killed men, women, and children.
His murders spanned from 1980 until 1999 and he was apprehended in January of 2000. He was sentenced to death on November 8, 2000 and died of lethal injection on April 3, 2014 at a Texas prison.

In episode 4 of Season 3, we will discuss Judy Buenoano - an American serial killer. She had a very terrible upbringing...BUT as we've stated plenty of times in the past, that doesn't give you the right to kill people. She apparently didn't get the memo on this though, because Judy was executed in 1971 for the murder of her son, one of her husbands, and attempted murder of another one of her husbands. For these crimes, she received a 12-year-sentence for the attempted murder of one husband, a life sentence for her son's death, and a death sentence for another husband. On top of these CONFIRMED cases, there were several others who mysteriously became ill and died while under her care/married to her. She ALSO faced several charges of insurance fraud and suspected on several counts of arson (for insurance purposes). What we've learned with this case is to NOT take out life insurance on yourself. Oh! And...change your name every time you kill someone...

If we've already planned episodes with you; don't fret, it will still happen...just in a different way. A way that YOU, the listeners, would like.
For this listener request episode, Heather is joined by Hawaii native and podcaster; Breaker! We will delve into the very complicated and tragic death of 23-year-old Dana Marie Ireland. Dana died shortly after midnight on Christmas morning in 1991. After shopping with her mother and her older sister, she decided to take a bike ride to a friend's house to see if he would like to join them for Christmas dinner. This was only about 8 miles away; something that she was quite used to biking. However, as the hours passed, and the friend hadn't seen her; he reached out to the family. They hadn't seen nor heard from her either. That is when all of their lives changed forever. There were so many factors that added up and created the perfect storm for Dana. A storm that would lead to her death. But who is responsible??

THIS IS A GRAPHIC EPISODE; CONTAINING VERY ADULT CONTENT
Part 1 of 2
In episode 28 of Season 2, Heather is joined by listener and true crime addict; Sam Simpson. In this episode, we discuss the Molalla Forest Killer - Dayton Leroy Rogers from Molalla, Oregon. He was classified as a serial killer who was known to rape and torture his victims. Although he was only active for a short time in 1987; that we know of - he claimed the lives of 7 to 8 women between the ages of 16 and 35. To his victims; all of whom were from a vulnerable population as they were runaways, drug addicts, and sex workers - he was known as "Steve the Gambler". Bloodlust. That's what he called the actions he took when causing harm to and eventually killing his victims due to the excruciating headache pain that he experienced. He indicated that causing the blood to come out of his victims was the only way to remedy his own pain. He was sentenced to death on June 9, 1989 and re-sentenced on March 8, 2006.

In the FINAL letter episode of Season 1, Heather and Rachelle discuss the Zebra Murders aka The Zebra Killings.  The best way to describe them is via a direct quote that we found here: https://blog.sfgate.com/crime/2013/03/13/zebra-killer-denied-parole/.  The Zebra Killings were “execution-style shootings that killed 14 people and wounded eight others between October 1973 and April 1974, mostly at night along the city’s Divisadero Street corridor. The gunmen were African American and the victims were mostly white. The killings got the Zebra label from police use of a special radio band, the Z channel, in their investigation.” (pulled quote from *PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS (like most others) A GRUESOME CASE WHICH INVOLVES TRIGGER WARNINGS* Although we are wrapping up Season 1, that doesn’t mean that we are done!  We will have several guests appearing on the show between Season 1 and Season 2.  Season 2 will still be alphabetical BUT we will be covering killers (not necessarily serial killers) from everywhere.  We will choose them based on where they’re from.  For instance, the Zebra Killings took place in San Fransisco, California so we would cover them for our “S” episode.  If YOU have a suggestion, send it to us!  We want to cover lesser known killers this season! In this episode, Heather is joined by Courtney from The Cult of Domesticity Podcastto discuss a local monster!  We head to Cleveland, Ohio to discuss Ariel Castro AND his survivors.  Castro was born in Puerto Rico but moved to Cleveland, Ohio with his family as a child.  He bought a house on Seymour Avenue…that he later turned into what can only be described as a “House of Horrors”.  He kidnapped three young women and held them captive in his home for over 10 years.  He beat them, starved them, wouldn’t allow them to leave the house, and even raped them on a regular basis.  One of his victims suffered at least 5 abortions at his hands while another was forced to have his baby.  Michelle Knight was 21 when he abducted her in 2002, Amanda Berry was 16 when he abducted her in 2003, and Georgina DeJesus was just 14 when he abducted her in 2004. After their escape in 2013, Castro was sentenced to life in prison without parole plus 1,000 years. He committed suicide in his cell just a little over a month after he was sentenced.  All three women are alive and doing their best to help other families of missing and exploited children.Subscribe to The Cult of Domesticity Podcast Our theme music was created and customized by Nico Vettese of We Talk of Dreams.  You can follow him on IG (@wetalkofdreams)  and Twitter (@WeTalkofDreams). In this episode, Heather and Rachelle head to Boulder, Colorado to discuss Scott Lee Kimball.. Boulder County native Scott Kimball was known as a career criminal and conman whom had an uncanny ability to convince people to give him the benefit of the doubt. In fact, he was so charming, that he was able to convince the FBI…the fucking FBI to release him from prison on December 18, 2002 so that he could become a PAID informant for them!  He was known as “Hannibal” or “Joe Snitch” and took the lives of at least 4 people…including his own uncle.  He is serving a sentence of 70 years after pleading guilty in 2009 to two counts of second degree murder; one for his uncle and another for Kaysi McLeod, Jennifer Marcum, and LeAnn Emry. Small disclaimer - I tried to make a water sound in the intro...didn’t work out the best - oops! Oh well, it’s only a few seconds long!

In this episode, Heather is joined again by the one and only Scott Fuller to discuss a serial killer from the Green River, Washington area. This is a killer that Heather has NEVER looked up until now. Not too sure why, other than the fact that she felt as though he was way overdone in the True Crime genre and perhaps not too fascinating. However, Scott has a way of providing information and details that will pull someone in and that’s exactly what he did here!

Gary Leon Ridgway was born on February 18, 1949 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He is responsible for at least 49 murders of teenage runaways and female sex workers from 1982 until 2001 – most of these murders occurring between 1982 and 1984 though. Gary aka “The Green River Killer” has confessed to at least 71 murders but said that there very well could be more but he lost count. He is currently sitting in a cell at the Washington State Penitentiary in Walla Walla and serving 48 life sentences plus 480 years.

In this episode, Heather is joined by a return guest and her father; Heath Pendergrass to discuss Joseph Roy Metheny.  Metheny admitted to killing 10 people but evidence was found to indict him on just two murders; Cathy Ann Magaziner (45 years old) and Toni Lynn Ingrassia (28 years old).  Metheny was convicted on numerous other charges such as kidnapping, attempted rape, and attempted murder of two other victims.  One of his victims (Kimberly Lynn Spicer) was able to escape and notify police which lead to his arrest.  His death penalty was overturned in 2000; in turn placing him in prison on a life sentence…until his death in 2017 when he was found in his cell. Disgusting fact about him?  He claimed to have had a roadside BBQ stand where he used his victims’ bodies as meat.   Our theme music was created and customized by Nico Vettese of We Talk of Dreams.  You can follow him on IG (@wetalkofdreams)  and Twitter (@WeTalkofDreams).  Follow us on IG: @naturevsnarcissismFollow us on Twitter: @NvsNpodcastLike us on Facebook: @naturevsnarcissismJoin our discussion group: nature vs narcissism discussion group Support us on Patreon for cool perks and goodies for $1: https://www.patreon.com/NVNpodcastDonate one time via PayPal: naturevsnarcissism@gmail.com.  Most of our sources are mentioned in the episode.  For those that are not, you can email us at naturevsnarcissism@gmail.comfor them.
