Todays show is going to be great because you get to meet my partner Lloyd. The reason why his story is a good one is he sees health thru the eyes of being a patient not a practitioner. Lloyd is an athlete too… he is a motorcycle racer! You know one of the knee draggers that go 180 and leaning over sideways around a corner! I think you will enjoy hearing his journey and our discussion on how we can attain health in this crazy world! Hearing his story is motivating because like many of you like Lloyd had to find his way to wellness from ill health and as you know the road you must travel on to find wellness is often a LONG one! Lloyd has had many accidents but the big one he actually died in as he severed his aorta in 2 places. Thankfully they were able to bring him back and surgically give him an artificial aorta… but that left him searching for help because of all the complications and injuries. I think you will like him because he is a very passionate and open minded person who has been willing to completely change his diet, his lifestyle just to have a shot at feeling good in life! And it was not too far down that road that he began to see the light at the end of the tunnel and knew he was on the right journey. 12 - Felicity Corbin Wheeler - Take Your Life Back By Treating The 4 D's

So this week I’m doing a meSPEAKS episode, where it’s just me giving you some tips about what you can do to prepare yourself for the cold and flu season. I want you to be well, to live life, and to be free of the illnesses that plague so many people this time of year. So get something you can write with and take good notes. Before the heavy flu season sets in across the country, I wanted to do this episode to share my experience with you about what you can do to prevent flu, cold, and other seasonal maladies so you can live to the fullest this winter.  But if you do succumb to the flu, cold or other seasonal illness, then I also want to teach you how to treat it naturally. When you’re trying to prevent flu and cold from overtaking you it’s important that you keep things like stress, busy-ness, and diet in mind. You can’t expect to beat the onset of flu if your lifestyle is antithetical to health in the first place. On this episode, I do cover some homeopathic remedies you can use to stave off the flu but first I address lifestyle issues that can make you stronger in the first place so that flu and cold won’t get a foothold in your body. One of the main things you need to understand when battling flu is that the fever is by and large, your friend. You don’t want to suppress the fever unless it gets too high. What’s too high? I’m personally comfortable letting a fever as high as 104 degrees run its course. But I’d never tell you to let it go if it makes you fearful or uncomfortable. I have wanted to have Dr. Pompa on the show since Episode 1, and he’s finally here!  Dr. Pompa completed his undergraduate education at the University of Pittsburgh in 1988 and earned his Doctor of Chiropractic degree at Life University's College of Chiropractic in Marietta, Georgia in 1995. Even though Dr. Pompa no longer practices chiropractic, his understanding of cellular healing has lead to many speaking engagements at large chiropractic seminars, speaking to hundreds of professionals who learn of his detoxification program for neurotoxic conditions and other unexplainable illnesses. They gave her steroids and said it would be a slow and painful decline to an early death.   For about three days she just cried and cried and wondered, “why me?” But then, she did what she had always done and started researching alternative solutions to autoimmunity diseases to see what she could find.   Over time she began to see that there were lots of small signs leading up to her autoimmunity disease and her “healthy” soy vegetarian diet wasn’t serving her. She realized she needed a total health makeover to purge a lot of health fads from her life. She also assembled a team of people to help her, from acupuncturists to herbalists to naturopaths to massage therapists.   After six months of intensive work, she became symptom-free from this “terminal” and “incurable” disease and she has continued to live symptom-free for over a decade.   Her experience with autoimmunity further inspired her to delve into the natural health world. She knew she wanted to help people like her: people who wanted to find the root cause of their health problems so they could live a healthy and vibrant life.   She thought about being a naturopath but she didn’t want to focus on supplements or any type of one-size-fits-all medicine (similar to western medicine). She thought about becoming an acupuncturist but she knew that in China the major form of medicine was the plants. So, she decided to study the art of herbalism. They gave her steroids and said it would be a slow and painful decline to an early death.   For about three days she just cried and cried and wondered, “why me?” But then, she did what she had always done and started researching alternative solutions to autoimmunity diseases to see what she could find.   Over time she began to see that there were lots of small signs leading up to her autoimmunity disease and her “healthy” soy vegetarian diet wasn’t serving her. In Today’s Episode Dr. Kristin Neff studied communications as an undergraduate at the University of California at Los Angeles. She did her graduate work at University of California at Berkeley, studying moral development with Dr. Elliot Turiel. Her dissertation research was conducted in Mysore, India, where she examined children’s moral reasoning. She then spent two years of post-doctoral study with Dr. Susan Harter at Denver University, studying issues of authenticity and self-concept development. She is currently an Associate Professor at the University of Texas at Austin. During Dr. Neff’s last year of graduate school, she became interested in Buddhism and has been practicing meditation in the Insight Meditation tradition ever since. While doing her post-doctoral work she decided to conduct research on self-compassion — a central construct in Buddhist psychology and one that had not yet been examined empirically. In addition to her pioneering research into self-compassion, she has developed an 8-week program to teach self-compassion skills. The program, co-created with her colleague Chris Germer, affiliated with Harvard Medical School, is called Mindful Self-Compassion. Her book,  Self-Compassion: The Proven Power of Being Kind to Yourself, was published by William Morrow in April, 2011. In our conversation today we talk about the difference between self-esteem and self-compassion, and how self-compassion can help you heal. TODAY’S GUEST: Ellen Kunz After finishing school Ellen Kunz went on to study pottery. In 1978 she went to the South of France to learn from a potter named Pierre Duterte. Later she had an amazing chance to learn from the most famous potter in Germany, named Wendelin Stahl. He was one of the first potters to build a bridge from handcrafted to artisan. Ellen says that he was a perfectionist and that he taught her to use her eyes and her passion, and that she was lucky to learn all she knows from him. The next chapter of her life began in 1984 when she gave birth to her daughter, Paula. Ellen stopped pottery at this point but went into 3-year professional training to become a retail salesperson. She opened an interior design shop called SOULEIADO, which sold handmade curtains, bedding, tablecloths and living decor made with special very colorful material from the South of France. In 1995 Ellen gave birth to her son Johann, and in 2001 she decided to close her shop to begin a study in homeopathy. She did a 3-year training with Dr. Christian Heimes and shortly after starting that, decided to go to Italy to do a master study with Dr. Massimo Mangialavori, which she did for more than 5 years. She also did a 2-year study with master homeopath Professor George Vithoulkas. Ellen went on to do many additional studies in homeopathy via seminars, webinars and short course studies that were taught by world-renowned homeopaths such as Henny Heudens, Jan Scholten, Rajan Sankaran, Dr. Farokh, Master, &amp; Divya Chahbra. In 2003 Ellen received the shocking news that she had breast cancer. She declined western treatment &amp; aggressively researched her alternatives which included of course homeopathy. In 2004-2006 Ellen did a 3-year training to become a Non-medical practitioner so she could legally open her own homeopathic practice. And then in Feb 2007, she opened her own homeopathic practice, which she still has today. Ellen received her second breast cancer diagnosis in 2008, which led her to further investigate life changes, including diet and so many other alternative treatments that she credits for her cure. And finally, just last year, after 33 years Ellen felt inspired to re-start her pottery. She now does pottery alongside her homeopathic practice. She is in the process of building her new pottery website &amp; is excited to have this creative outlet to pour her passion into. She says it is a great balance for her to do both. There is some real magic to this because it shows her constantly how she is doing; when she creates a pot that is well done then she can tell she is in a very healthy place. Ellen loves the beauty of and in things. She likes to care for people. She says when you are healthy you are free and then all your inner beauty can flower out!
