Creative Synergy with John MacLeod & Emily Rose Galvin

The Creative Coping Podcast

Within a few weeks of being introduced to each other, guitarist John MacLeod and poet Emily Joy Galvin quickly realized that there was something special about their collaborative effort to perform together live back in January. John’s guitar arrangements accompanied the soft-spoken poetry of Emily so well that they decided to work under the name, Rose & Cloud. The duo has already released their debut EP, “It’s Only Thursday” and in this episode we break down each song/poem to give you all a glimpse of the creative process. Episode 97: Olympian/Film Producer John MacLeod

Keep the Flame Alive

We're excited to have Olympian John MacLeod*, producer at WitNit Productions, with us this week. John's been working on a fascinating project called "Beyond Bronze, Silver and Gold," which is a series of documentary films that share Olympians' untold stories. You've got to see the previews of his first two shorts -- they're riveting, and really well-told. John's working on the post-production portion now, and he's got a Kickstarter going to help fund that effort so they can get done and in front of audiences sooner. You can support his efforts here - you don't have much time left to do so, though! The drive ends on August 15. We also have a small slice of TOFU for you this week, as well as some legacy news. You know how much we love talking about Olympic Host City legacies. This time it's because Lake Placid is investing a lot of money into renovations of some of its facilities ahead of hosting the 2023 Winter Universiade. Good on you, Lake Placid! We're always impressed at how this town has done such a good job of reusing its facilities. On a different part of the spectrum is Rio. Not the other end, perhaps, but just a different part. The International Olympic Committee released a statement about what was going with the Rio venues, and we spend some time reading between the lines of the press release to figure out what it actually means. 146: Using indicators to predict stock movements with John MacLeod

Better System Trader

Predictive modelling is used in many aspects of our lives today.. in the banking and insurance industries to assess the risks and behaviours of customers… in marketing to anticipate customer purchasing behaviours… in meteorology to forecast the weather… in fact there are too many applications to list here but predictive modelling has the potential to be applied pretty much anywhere, even in the markets. Now you may be saying ‘wait, I’m not in the business of predicting, my trading is all reactive, I don’t predict, I just follow the markets’. I’m not going to go into that argument today but before you make any decisions or judgements about this episode I invite you to take a listen because we discuss the predictability of indicators, and some of the things you’ll hear in our chat about indicators are very interesting, no matter how you use them in your own trading. Our guest for this episode is John MacLeod. John has a background in using Predictive Modelling, working as a consultant to develop predictive models in consumer banking and mass marketing, and has applied this expertise to the stockmarkets as well. Some of the things you’ll discover in my chat with John are: Predictive modelling – what it is and how can it be used in trading to select stocks that may be setup for a big move, Using indicators as predictors and 3 major conclusions John has made by analyzing the predictability of 160 indicators – these results may surprise you! The accuracy of predictive modelling, which factors can impact accuracy and the easiest time periods to produce high accuracy predictions, How data derived from indicators can actually be more effective as predictors then the indicators themselves, Plus much more.
