Episode 1 - Rev. Susan Sparks

God Wants You to Laugh

Rev. James interviews Baptist Preacher and stand-up Comic Rev. Susan Sparks.“I was a funny little kid who wanted to be a preacher . . . and the world and the church tried to beat it out of me. So my whole life story has been reclaiming it and fighting back. And that’s really everybody’s life story. You have this little glimmer of who you are truly in your heart and the world tries to take it away. You fight back or you don’t or you find a happy medium.” -Rev. Catalog of Interviews and Bits

Listen HERE About the Author Susan Sparks is a SODA, a Survivor Of Domestic Abuse; and a classic example of the fact that domestic violence and abuse is not limited by neighborhood or financial standing. She has formed the SODA Fund, a charity dedicated to helping victims of domestic violence and abuse. Susan is here today to tell a piece of her story and provide our listeners with a few tips for dealing with domestic violence and abuse; because home should be a safe place for everyone. Susan now counsels others to help them get out of dangerous situations. But for two decades, Susan was a reporter and later a high-powered executive, and a mom; and at home, a continuous victim of domestic abuse, who just thought that she was in a bad relationship. Six years ago, Susan gathered the courage to break free from her abusive situation, sustaining both physical injury and emotional scars that will last a lifetime. About the Book SPARKS IN LOVE is a survivor’s story that takes you behind closed doors and shows what happens when you fall in love with the wrong person and ignore the warning signs. Highlighting the signs of domestic abuse with stories from her own life, Sparks takes the reader on a journey designed to expose both the subtle and overt aspects of abuse. A cautionary tale to those entering relationships, as well as reassurance to those still enmeshed in abusive relationships, the message is clear: there are safe ways out and life after abuse. Each victim has the right to become a SODA™, a Survivor Of Domestic Abuse.  Eminently readable, poignant and informative, compelling and horrifying, SPARKS IN LOVE is an inspirational telling of one woman’s story that becomes everywoman’s story; because one in four women who become victims of domestic abuse. Sparks In Love is available at Amazon and Barnes and Noble.

Episode 26: Interview with Susan Sparks

LaughBox

A trial lawyer, a pastor, and and a comedian walk into a bar…. That may sound like a great set up for a joke but it’s what actually happens when our guest, Susan Sparks, goes out on Saturday night ALL AT ONCE!  She’s been (or is) all of those things all wrapped up into one FABULOUS, FUNNY, AND FORTHCOMING person (okay, the last was just me needing another “F” word that wouldn’t make my mother blush).  Sit back and enjoy this interview with a person that is out there making a difference one laugh at a time! More on Susan (in her own words)...Hi y’all, I’m Susan Sparks—a trial lawyer turned preacher, comedian, speaker, author, and Harley-riding cowboy boot addict. I help people regain their grit and reclaim their joy. We all know life has curves.Things we never expect.Things that throw us into the wind or down to the ground. Trust me, I’ve been there. I’ve lived through a divorce, survived cancer, lost both parents, traveled solo around the world for two years and left a ten-year law practice to create a career as an ordained minister and a standup comedian. I know a bit about curves. Here’s what I’ve learned: Bends in the road are inevitable. But they are also where life takes flight. They are the places where we have the opportunity to face down our fears, accelerate through and become something more. After significant gambles and spectacular falls, I’ve learned to lean into the curves. Now thousands take inspiration and hope from the laughter and wisdom I lead with. Join me every week as I share The Shiny Side Up – my weekly journal pages where you’ll get infectious inspiration that will lift you up, make you smile and leave you stronger! Sign Up for The Shiny Side Up Want to take a walk on the wilder side? Tune in to my motorcycle YouTube broadcast: “Rev It Up!” where you’ll to lean into the curves and live full power. You can also connect with me live stream through my sermons via Madison Avenue Baptist Church, and live in person via my keynotes, comedy shows and workshops. Hey, we’re all on the same road. Why not face the curves and accelerate out together! You can get EVEN MORE on Susan on her website:  www.susansparks.com
