In this episode, Adam shares his passion for bringing role-playing games, most notably Dungeons &amp; Dragons into a therapeutic space. Dungeons and Dragons is not a video game, but it's an in-person collaborative role-playing story game of chance (Adam's definition!)  Adam's work does not focus on discreetly teaching social skills, but focuses on developing those skills in a motivating, engaging, and natural environment where feedback can be easily integrated.  At Game to Grow, Adam's team supports other therapists, educators, and community members with learning how to integrate this model into a variety of settings and helping future game masters developing "SPARK"- spontaneity, playfulness, attunement, restraint, and knowledge. #51- The Therapeutic Power Of Dungeons And Dragons With Adam Davis, MA Ed.

I have been playing tabletop games for a handful of years at most. Despite my limited experience, the impact it has had on my life has been substantial to say the least. It has provided me forms of live entertainment both in person and digital, it has introduced me to people and friends whom I otherwise probably wouldn't have had the opportunity to meet, and it has also provided me an outlet to escape in times of stress and uncertainty. It is safe to say that tabletop gaming has changed my life. But enough about me and my sappy introductions. This week we're here to talk about an organization called . For those unfamiliar, Game to Grow is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the use of games of all kinds for therapeutic, educational, and community growth. They can also be found at various conventions throughout the country, most recently at PAX East a few months back where they had a variety of panels as well as a presence within the tabletop area. We were joined by two representatives of Game to Grow this week: Adam Davis, MA Ed and Jared Kilmer, PhD and they gave us a complete rundown of the history of their organization, the challenges and rewards of the work they do, and how they've had to adapt their processes in these times of social distancing and public safety. An affordable, accessible, convenient online way for parents to learn about substance use and how to address it at all stages on the journey.    Ginny Mills is a Licensed Processional Counselor Supervisor and a Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist . She is also a parent of a daughter in recovery, recovery advocate and believer that a full life in recovery can be a reality!     Ginny has been counseling with adults, adolescents, and parents and leading relapse prevention groups for over 25 years. She is the founder of  Full Life Counseling &amp; Recovery  since its inception in 2008. Recognizing just how many parents lack access to hope, education, consultation and support, she developed  Parenting Through Addiction: The Other PTA  to meet that need for families everywhere.    Through her membership website she offers free and paid plans, offering education and consultation about addiction, as well as access to a community of concerned and loving parents. PTA is a reliable source of information, a preventive measure, and an alternative to treatment clinics. Parenting Through Addiction allows us to seek guidance before our children are ready to face their troubles.
