Episode 62: Canada's Hottest Job Is The Kinko's In Vancouver with Ophira Eisenberg

Unemployed with Anna Roisman

This week we have the wonderful and hilarious Ophira Eisenberg (NPR's A_sk Me Another_, The Moth) on the podcast! Ophira tells us what it has been like to not only work during a pandemic, but also work while her son has been at home. (And she's just as shocked as anyone that she had to raise him herself!?) LOL. She tells us about a comedy gig she booked in Aruba...that didn't happen. But before she was a successful comic and host, Ophira grew up in Canada and worked in her family's grocery store business. She also tells us about working at the coolest place in town which was of course the bead store, which she worked at a few times in her college years. But it's her work in IT and computer labs that really impressed us! Ophira tells the greatest stories and we're so blessed to have them on this episode. It's an hour of laughs, so we hope you love it! Anna and Ellen talk about Ellen's first day back on set for a job and how different things are after not having to leave your apartment for months (years?)... Anna talks about working with Airtime and how much fun she's having working on this app. Follow Ophira at @OphiraE and if you can catch her doing standup? Lucky you!

8/25 Vulnerability with Comedian Ophira Eisenberg

25 for 25

Twitter: https://twitter.com/25for25podFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/25for25pod Welcome to episode 8/25 of 25 for 25, where we interview 25 people about what their lives were like at age 25. Ophira Eisenberg is a comedian and storyteller, and she hosts the ever popular NPR word game show, Ask Me Another. We spoke about how difficult it is to not get too caught up in the future, and how it’s all the worse when you have no choice but to adapt to a tumultuous present. We also talked about storytelling, comedy, and being vulnerable on stage without worrying too much about what people will think. Wee all worry about judgement, but I think grappling with that fear is the best way to find your voice. When Ophira was 25, she was living in Vancouver and planting seeds for the future, including performing stand-up for the first time. Comedians Ophira Eisenberg and Ryan Reiss, with co-hosts Shaun Eli (The Ivy League of Comedy) and Tom Capone (NY Distance Learning Association) In this episode Ophira talks about her NPR show “Ask Me Another” and working with The Moth, Ryan yells at Ophira for having work to talk about and Ophira tells us how she snagged free office space to work in. Ophira talks about her book “Screw Everyone: Sleeping My Way To Monogamy” and that slutty doesn’t mean everyone gets a chance until Tom changes the subject. Ryan talks about travelling for gigs during the pandemic. Shaun talks about scary cheap food on the road with Ophira. Shaun talks about why stand-up comedians almost always stand up on stage. Ophira talks about testing out new material on Zoom shows. Shaun talks about performing outside for his neighbors to try out new jokes. Tom asks if the comedians always knew that’s what they would be. And when Tom asks about comedy classes, teachers and coaches, the comedians talk about how you know if you’re going to be funny. But Ryan and Ophira disagree as to whether anybody can be a comedian, with Shaun somewhere in the middle.
