There are activists and then there is Munroe Bergdorf, who joins me for the second episode of season two! With over half a million followers on Instagram alone, Munroe has become one of today's most powerful voices, continuously standing up for marginalised people, diversity, feminism, the queer community and transgender visibility. So it’s no wonder that she's a UN Women UK Changemaker, that Time Magazine called her a Next Generation Leader on their cover last year, and British Vogue named her as one of the 25 most powerful women in Britain.Munroe is one of my favourite people to talk to, as she’s beyond open and always promotes new ways of thinking, and this conversation shows just that. We talk about how we both came out at 14 years old, and how lockdown reminded us both of the isolation we experienced as a teenager. We talk about filters and photoshopping, the price of being a prominent Black Transgender activist on social media, labels, and our mutual appreciation for the icon that is Martine McCutcheon! This episode truly has it all so I hope you take away just as much from this chat as I did. And if you are feeling alone or isolated (I’ve been there!) reach out and talk, I promise it will help. ERK interviews model and activist Munroe Bergdorf. They discuss The Real Housewives, Britney Spears, Sophie, coming up in the UK club scene, corporate allyship, cancel culture, and how she sees the fashion industry evolving. All that, and Drag Race UK star Bimini Bon Boulash and stylist Harry Lambert also drop by to ask Munroe a few questions. Plus, Evan and Matt discuss the allegations against designer Al*xander W*ng, and where this story nets out now that some sort of settlement with a number of his victims appears to have been reached.Show links:Get bonus content by joining us on Patreon http://patreon.com/shutupevanEvan Ross Katz on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/evanrosskatz/Matt aka Stormageddon on Twitter https://twitter.com/dj_stormageddonRyan Killian Krause on Twitter https://twitter.com/RyanKKrauseSee acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Arielle and George are getting a sneak peek into the home of model and change maker Munroe Bergdorf’s London apartment on All Round Mine this week. We’ll meet her troop of pets, get a crash course in crystals and settle a very important question – how do you pronounce ‘candelabra’? Munroe generously gave her time for free to appear on All Round Mine. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
When Munroe Bergdorf speaks, people listen. She's an activist, model and a change maker. We spent much of our twenties together in London's clubland, playing music and hosting parties. These days you're more likely to find her fighting for equality and on the cover of every magazine. She's a juggernaut of social activism, and in this episode we revisit her days on the dance floor and find out how they helped to shape her as a person. What does it mean to be queer in 2020? Author and journalist Amelia Abraham leads this week's look back at WOW London earlier this year with a fascinating panel discussion featuring model and activist Munroe Bergdorf, Executive Editor of VICE UK Zing Tsjeng and campaigner Owl Fisher. Today, the options and freedoms available to LGBTQ+ people living in the West are greater than ever before. But at what cost does this acceptance come? Is same-sex marriage, improved media visibility and corporate endorsement all it’s cracked up to be?Following the extract from the festival, Jude Kelly caught up in lockdown with Amelia to hear how Covid-19 has affected queer people, from facing isolation to watching trans rights being rolled back in the US. Plus, don't miss a short interview with Mishcon de Reya's Emma Woollcott who founded the firm's Pride Network and was celebrated as one of the Telegraph's LGBT Top 50 Executives two years running. And there's a performance by Emel Mathlouthi of 'Everywhere We Looked Was Burning.' Emel's song Kelmti Horra (My Word is Free) generated millions of views during the 2011 Tunisian Revolution. The song served as the anthem for the Arab Spring and she performed it at the 2015 Nobel Peace Prize Concert. A few years back Munroe Bergdorf was a model for L’Oreal who chose to speak out about systemic racism. She was promptly removed from the campaign. Cut to Black Lives Matter protests a few years later and it seems the world may be starting to catch up with her. She’s here to tell us her amazing story that has an incredible twist and to talk to us about what brands can do to properly help LGBTQ+ people, particularly beyond pride month when the rainbows disappear. She’s an inspiring force for good. Who could ask for a better guest?
