Burlesque w/ Sam Reece & Becky Chicoine

Crossroads, Glitter, Burlesque - it seems like every pop icon had to have a big budget debut role and this was Christina Aguilera's turn. A small town girl moves to LA with the hopes of becoming a singer and falls in love with performing at a club, yes this is basically the plot of Showgirls but far more tame! Sam Reece, Becky Chicoine and I discuss the rivalries, the lack of story, and come up with our own lavish sequel featuring... robots?!

The Woman In The Window by AJ Finn with Comedy Central's Becky Chicoine

It’s the Season 5 FINALE! Comedy Central’s Becky Chicoine forced us to read The Woman in the Window by A.J. Finn. Published in 2018, this book debuted at number 1 and quickly spun out a two-book two-million-dollar deal and a movie starring Amy Adams (due out in 2020). It’s also been critically panned and the author has been accused of lying and stealing the story! DRAMA! We break it down.

Mean Book Club is four ladies (UCB, BuzzFeed, College Humor, Impractical Jokers) who read, discuss and whine about NYT bestselling books that have questionable literary merit. It's fun. It's cathartic. It's perfect for your commute. New podcast (almost) every Tuesday!

We’ll be off for the next month, but don’t worry, we’ll give you a heads up on next season’s books starting NOW:

* If I Did It by The Goldman Family
* A Woman’s Worth by Marianne Williamson
* The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
* Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher
* On The Road by Jack Kerouac
* LA Candy by Lauren Conrad
* Relentless by Dean Koontz
* Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver

Becky Chicoine Talks Where'd You Go, Bernadette

Play

Becky chose Where'd You Go, Bernadette (2012) by Maria Semple, a really funny book that tracks the aftermath of a mother's disappearance in an affluent Seattle neighborhood. We cover the book's innovative structure ("a fresh take on the epistolary novel for the modern age" is something I wish I'd thought of on the fly), what we learned about Antarctica, and what Becky and I would title our respective autobiographies. Becky is a comedian who performs at UCB and with the sketch groups Girls With Brown Hair and OSFUG, and I frankly insist that you follow her on Twitter at @Beckychicoine.
