Avranno davvero le stesse possibilità di riuscire dei loro colleghi maschi?Le difficoltà che incontra Teresa, in quanto donna e madre, non nascono da un pregiudizio consapevole del mondo scientifico nei suoi confronti. Tutt’altro. Il processo di selezione della Nasa avviene mentre lei è incinta. A contare sono gli studi, le competenze, in una parola: il merito. Dopo la nascita dei figli, però, Teresa si confronta con difficoltà oggettive, che vengono conferma dall’indagine che Valore D ha condotto su oltre 7mila donne di 61 aziende: è più difficile per le donne con ruolo STEM conciliare vita privata e lavorativa, soprattutto nella fase in cui si sta costruendo la carriera.È fondamentale che ci siano politiche di sostegno della maternità. Ma è fondamentale che queste politiche promuovano allo stesso modo il coinvolgimento degli uomini nella cura. La vera rivoluzione si avrà quando il mondo della ricerca scientifica garantirà a uomini e donne di essere naturalmente anche padri e madri.

In July, ESA plans to launch the 2nd ExoMars mission, a rover called the Rosalind Franklin that will search for signs of life on Mars. It’ll do so with the MOMA instrument. Recently, scientists from ESA and NASA embarked on an expedition to the Pilbara region in Australia to practice identifying biosignatures in rocks to prep them for their eventual interpretation of the data coming back. Teresa Fornaro, co-investigator on the MOMA instrument, joins Jake to talk about the instrument, the mission, and the expedition.
