To find out more and to RSVP for free, go to KPCC’s events page. It’s the first-ever father-daughter edition of Go Fact Yourself! Walter Koenig is a pop culture and science fiction icon. He played the character Pavel Chekov on the original “Star Trek” TV series and films. You’d think that having so much of your career tied to one particular role would get tiring. But Walter’s learned to accept his stardom… even if people like to hear more about Chekov than they do about him as a person. His new book Beaming Up and Getting Off is available now -- and you can get a signed copy!Walter will compete against comedian and writer Danielle Koenig -- who happens to be his daughter! She’s entertained plenty of people over the years through her work on shows like “Invader Zim” and “Fashion Police.” But she’ll tell us about another way that she earned a particular reputation: for her very distinct laugh. Plus, she’ll tell us how she still manages to enjoy the Star Trek franchise despite being so tied to it. Our guests will get into topics like classic kids’ shows, classic sci-fi and classic baseball! What’s the difference: The bumpy roadWhat’s the difference between a street and a road? What’s the difference between a speed bump and a speed hump?Appearing in this episode:J. Danielle Koenig (Star vs. the Forces of Evil) joins Jordan and Jesse in an episode recorded before the pandemic hit for a discussion of the pet portrait Jesse got from a 9-year-old girl at the flea market, the cozy mystery book with the curious cover that Jordan saw at the library, and the soothing quality of a Law and Order episode.
Ep. 26 Comedians Danielle Koenig and Laurie Kilmartin Join Me LIVE!
Motherhood in Hollywood
I'm excited to finally share this episode with you! It's my first time doing Motherhood in Hollywood in front of a live audience and it was a hoot. I asked two of the funniest mamas in television to be my guests and we had a grand old time. We also raised money for an organization called No Kid Hungry during this show so you will hear me giving away prizes and harassing the audience. All for charity of course.Danielle KoenigMy guests are comedy writers and moms Danielle Koenig (The Comment Section, The Stash) and Laurie Kilmartin (Conan, Last Comic Standing). They were such good sports in letting me ask them ridiculous questions and drone on about myself. What? It's my show! As writers they both have unique perspectives on the challenges and benefits to being a mom in the entertainment business. We chat about how our kids influence our comedy, the emergence of the "mom-com" genre, and what it's like raising a child while working full time in television.Laurie KilmartinThis was such a big undertaking for me because I've never done anything like this before. I'm so proud of how it turned out and incredibly grateful to everyone who helped put this together. I hope you enjoy it and share it with a friend!
Danielle Koenig was born into show business, works in show business and married into it as well. We think that makes her a pretty good source on all things Hollywood. But she just takes it all with a grain of salt. Kira and Danielle reconnected on the set of Parental Discretion where Danielle was a writer and they reminisced about their early days of stand up, how they both belong to a “not so great club” and what it’s like to raise boys… in show biz.
Slip on your long prairie skirt and straw ribboned hat for Episode 90’s chat with writer and comedian Danielle Koenig, who may or may not end up with a Goodfellas actor, an rare and endangered pet, and a fictional father figure from a beloved 80’s sitcom.
