Word With Ty Brownlow Ep.# 36 Kassandra Dasent

Word With Ty Brownlow

Kassandra Dasent (www.kassandradasent.com) does not shy away from the uncomfortable, and difficult to articulate, topics of depression and anxiety. Born in San Juan, Trinidad, with chutney, soca and calypso in her blood, Kassandra is a singer-songwriter who grew up in Montreal, Quebec (Canada). She performed as a solo artist and vocalist in festivals, from Africa (Mali, Burkina Faso) to Montreux (Switzerland), as well as in galas, television shows, and concerts. She performed with the world-renowned Cirque du Soleil, Groupe Spaïcy and Groupe Iba, among others. She has co-written and collaborated on numerous tracks for other artists worldwide. Kassandra appeared as a singer in several feature films, the most recent being I’m Not There, a musical biopic of Bob Dylan. She has been featured in several publications including Glamour, Forbes, Business Insider, The Zoe Report, Fast Company, and many others, showcasing her financial prowess. In 2011, she released a successful album, Road To Rebellion, and then she took a long break (10 years, in fact). Her music has served as an essential tool towards managing her depression and anxiety. After years of working as a project manager and, recently, financial expert, Kassandra has come full circle with a new single, “Be Still.” Not yet released, the song talks about healing, death, loss, and pain. Last year, Kassandra lost her mother in the middle of the pandemic.--- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/appSupport this podcast: https://anchor.fm/tyrideius-brownlow/support

252 How to Be the Architect of Your Financial Future - Kassandra Dasent, Financial Wellness Engineer & Speaker

More Money Podcast

I’m so excited to share this episode! I was told by others that , a financial wellness engineer, Certified Financial Education Instructor, and speaker, would be an amazing guest…and she did not disappoint. As she shares in this episode, she is immigrated with her mom from Trinidad to Quebec, Canada as a child, and now lives in Florida, USA. And as immigrants to a new country, money was always tight. This led Kassandra to do, as I see so many financial counselling clients do, to rebel as an adult and spend without a plan and eventually get into debt. But everything changed in 2009 when she realized she was in serious consumer debt. Something needed to change if she wanted to live a more balanced, fulfilled, and financially secure life. So, in June 2009, she created a plan to pay off $55,000 of debt in five years. By November 2012 she became debt-free. And now she is on the show to not only share her journey of becoming debt-free, but to explain how she did it, how she continued to stay diligent with her plan and stay motivated, and what lessons she learned she hopes to pass onto others who may be in a similar situation. Black Lives Matter with Kassandra Dasent

Martinis and Your Money Podcast

I’m not going to lie to you. These last few weeks, since May 25 when George Floyd was murdered by the Minnesota police department, have been the hardest of my life. Every time I think I’ve gotten through a difficult chapter (like divorce, saving the business from the brink of collapse, surviving a global pandemic), another challenging chapter presents itself.  As challenging as the last few weeks have been, though, I’m ready for this to bring systemic change in a broken system that’s been broken for over 400 years. I’m ready for the hard conversations, I’m ready to learn and I’m ready to amplify and use privilege for the good.  Joining me today is my friend Kassandra Dasent to discuss our feelings over the last few weeks and how we move forward to a place of light and love. If you’re uncomfortable with this podcast having these conversations, you’re welcome to not listen, but I encourage you to confront your discomfort and evolve from there.  For more information, visit the show notes at https://martinisandyourmoney.com/show-notes/black-lives-matter-with-kassandra-dasent
