44. Climate Anxiety with Heather White author of One Green Thing: Discover your Hidden Power to Help Save the Planet
Your Anxious Child
Heather White is the author of One Green Thing: Discover Your Hidden Power to Help Save the Planet. She is the founder of OneGreenThing.org and has two decades of experience in environmental advocacy including serving as a presidential campaign staffer for Al Gore and numerous other activities. Climate change is the big challenge for the younger generation and many therapist such as myself are noticing how much it comes up with our young clients. Heather White discusses the importance of a intergenerational discussion of climate change, how doing one green thing a day can create the necessary cultural shift to deal with this crisis and most importantly how to identify the ways in which you and your child can play a part. The program of action Heather White describes are crucial in managing the understandable anxiety that comes with thinking about climate change.
Feeling profoundly misunderstood during her adolescent years, Heather realized early in her career she had a knack for building community for the misfits. A job at Karmaloop brought Heather into the streetwear world, where she learned that work culture could be fun, but understanding work politics was just as important. She eventually moved on to working in marketing for brands like Puma and New Balance. Being in the sneaker industry, Heather regularly attended fitness classics but often left annoyed at the dull music and energy. She saw an opportunity to make working out a little more lit. Today, Heather is the Founder & CEO of TrillFit, a purpose-driven wellness business changing the face of boutique fitness with studios in Boston and Brooklyn. Co-Founder of Claima and Former Nike Marketer, Bimma Williams interviews leading and emerging creatives and entrepreneurs of color about how they were able to build their own tables by turning their hobbies, side hustles, and ideas into thriving small businesses. From these stories, listeners will learn how to claim their dream careers by stepping into the world of entrepreneurship. Featuring Melody Ehsani, Jeff Staple, James Whitner and more. Hello beautiful souls! Over the years, I’ve heard about the levels of eco-anxiety some of us feel especially as we seek to extend care to ourselves, to those around us… and to the planet we live on. My guest today is Heather White - nationally recognized conservation and environmental policy expert with extensive experience leading and advising non-profit organizations, and author of the new book ‘One Green Thing: Discover Your Hidden Power To Help Save the Planet.’ Listen as Heather encourages the lesser known approach of seeking the joy that stems from implementing a daily care of the earth. And of course, Heather also leaves us with some takeaways to begin that systemic change.
