This week, we were thrilled to be joined by Lesley Roy, who would have represented Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2020. Together with Jazzi, Rory, Rosie and Tim, we talk about Lesley’s journey to Eurovision, discuss the contrast between “nostalgia” and “outdated”, and revel in Lesley’s anecdote about the (in)famous pink suit. What do you think about Lesley Roy’s song? Do you think she should return for Ireland in 2021? We would love to thank Lesley for coming onto the podcast, and we hope that the recording sessions that have become an integral part of Lesley’s Eurovision journey bear fruit so that we see Lesley return to obtain her goals next year!A link to this episode on Apple Podcasts is available here.

16. Lesley Roy - Song Series #2

Irish Institute of Music & Song podcast

In episode 16, we spoke to Irish songwriter Lesley Roy in her Manhattan apartment where she has living in lockdown. Lesley is a songwriter and performer from Balbriggan, County Dublin. She has co-written with Katy Perry and two of her songs have appeared on hit reality TV show “The Hills”. In 2012, her co-write “Pop That Lock” featured on a chart-topping album in the USA, and her voice can be heard every time WWE wrestler Ember Moon enters the ring.   Lesley was also Ireland’s entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 with her own song “Story of My Life”.   In this episode, Lesley tells us about her experience of writing with Katy Perry, touring her début album across the USA at the age of 21, and she explains the different songwriting approaches in LA and Nashville.   The songs featured in this episode were all written and co-written by Lesley. In order, they are: "Story of My Life" - Ireland's entry for Eurovision Song Contest 2020 "Here For You Now" from Unbeautiful LP (2008) "Slow Goodbye" from Unbeautiful LP (2008) "Gold" (2020) For more info on the Irish Institute of Music & Song, visit irishinstituteofmusic.com

Lesley Roy INTERVIEW | Ireland's Eurovision 2020 star on "Story of My Life", ESC 2021 and more

Wiwibloggs: The Eurovision Podcast

Lesley Roy was meant to sing "Story of My Life" at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 for Ireland. Speaking from her apartment in New York City, she tells us about collaborating with Max Martin and Katy Perry, living in Nashville, Los Angeles, and Dublin, her status for Eurovision 2021, and her plans to collaborate with Swedish songwriters for the song contest next year. Apparently Ireland's Head of Delegation thinks it would be a national injustice if she doesn't get her chance at Eurovision. Forty-minutes of pure joy!

Eurovision Review 2020: Ireland - Lesley Roy "Story Of My Life" | WIWI JURY

Wiwibloggs: The Eurovision Podcast

“As a songwriter you always strive to write something that is true to yourself but can also speak to a large scale audience," Lesley Roy told us. "Story Of My Life is not just my story, it’s everyone’s. I had struggled with a lot of anxiety after my music career took some different turns and it took me a long time to be able to write something honest for myself but also something that I wanted to perform again. This song is about overcoming your difficulties, standing up, speaking truth and owning your story."

Ep 47: Eurovision Hopeful with Lesley Roy

Fascinated with Gearoid Farrelly

In this episode I chat to singer songwriter Lesley Roy. As teenager Lesley would busk on the streets of Dublin and instead of dreaming of superstardom she actively chased it. She signed a record contract with and American Label and spent two years in Sweden learning to write pop songs under the direction of Max Martin who produced her 2008 debut album "Unbeautiful". The album was released and expectations were high but it wasn't to be. Lesley began cowrite for other artists like Ms Montreal and Adam Lambert.  This year she was returned to performing and was due to represent Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam with her song "The Story Of My Life". The song was released and lauded however on the 18th March the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 was cancelled due to the outbreak of Covid-19.  If you really enjoy this podcast you can buy me a coffee on Kofi https://ko-fi.com/gearoidfarrelly">https://ko-fi.com/gearoidfarrelly https://open.spotify.com/album/1rHXAzNDnX5EU6eAZo7BWm?si=8ksts61uQe-FVa_I3lsCnQ">You can listen to “Unbeautiful” here https://music.apple.com/ie/album/story-of-my-life-single/1502388582">You can buy to “Story Of My Life” here Follow Gearoid Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/gearoidfarrelly">@gearoidfarrelly Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/gearoidfarrelly">gearoidfarrelly Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/gearoidfarrelly">;/gearoidfarrelly Follow Lesley Roy Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/lesleyroyreal "> @lesleyroyreal Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/lesroy">lesroy
