#025 - Hospitality Meets Chris Penn - The Founder & Entrepreneur

In early July 2020 (when we were once again allowed to go meet people) we were lucky enough to get some socially distanced time with Chris Penn, Co-Founder of Steel Hotels (www.steelhotels.com) & Birch (www.birchcommunity.com), a few weeks before the doors were opened at Birch for the first time.

This chat is crammed full of good stuff as we took full advantage of Chris' natural humour, drive and humility covering off his epic journey to this point as well as topics such as battles, travelling, finding your feet, wobbles, leadership, travel, the 3 year itch, challenging impossible, mindset in extreme situations, voices in your head, having no regrets, logic and of course Birch which we believe is going to be something really rather special.

It's one of our most in depth chats to date and not to be missed.

Enjoy!

EP209: How your agency should keep up with AI with Chris Penn

Play
Read more

Our agencies and the work we do will inevitably be impacted by artificial intelligence in the next 3-5 years. That’s just a fact. Odds are, it’s probably already changing the way you do business every day. There’s a lot of hype and buzz about jobs going away and most agencies are struggling to figure out how to keep up.

Questions of what data to use, how to analyze it, what tasks can be automated, and what AI can do for clients pop up all of the time. And it all shifts on what seems like a daily basis.

Fortunately, the agency space has a beacon to light the way into the uncharted territory of AI. His name is Chris Penn, and he is an authority on analytics, digital marketing, and marketing technology. A recognized thought leader, best-selling author, and keynote speaker, he has shaped four key fields in the marketing industry: Google Analytics adoption, data-driven marketing and PR, modern email marketing, and artificial intelligence/machine learning in marketing.

Chris is a generous guy who frequently shares his knowledge over his own podcast, Marketing Over Coffee, as well as through books like “AI for Marketers: A Primer and Introduction.” I was thrilled to welcome Chris as my guest for episode #208 of the Build a Better Agency podcast.

I barely scratched the surface of questions I had but we got a good start, talking about data analysis, keeping up with the flux of AI, and the tasks that agencies can automate to save time and money. The conversation was fascinating and I’m excited to share it with you.

A big thank you to our podcast’s presenting sponsor, White Label IQ. They’re an amazing resource for agencies who want to outsource their design, dev or PPC work at wholesale prices. Check out their special offer (10 free hours!) for podcast listeners here: https://www.whitelabeliq.com/ami/

#11 Parental suicide, resetting & finding your passion; with Chris Penn

Play
Read more

This week we had the pleasure of welcoming Kat's cousin Chris Penn to the podcast.

Chris' story is one that we've not yet heard on the DPC Podcast. His Dad, Kat's Uncle, died from suicide in 2010. Chris was doing his first year uni exams at the time; he dropped out of uni two years later, but somehow ended up beating the system by finding his passion and going straight to a Masters!! Chris had a tricky relationship with his Dad but had decided he wanted to make amends a short time before he died.

Chris has an unexpectedly positive outlook, after what has been a tough number of years. We loved recording this one and are both super proud of Chris. We talk about the stigma surrounding suicide, how losing a parent suddenly makes you realise you're not immortal, realising what's important, and why FIFA is good for the soul (and so much more!).Links to stuff we talked about:Songs That Saved My Life Album: https://www.songsthatsavedmylife.com/You can get it on Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music, Amazon (all ya classics)Song: Candour by Neck Deep https://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/candour/718437078?i=718437322 Film: Collateral Beauty https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4682786/ http://www.bernardmatthews.com/ https://www.birdseye.co.uk/range Email: dpcpodcast@hotmail.comWebsite. www.dpcpodcast.co.uk Instagram: @dpcpodcast
