Cory Aldridge knows Wilkin Castillo's pain all too well. After Castillo returned to the major leagues with the Miami Marlins in June 2019 after a 10-year absence, Aldridge discussed his realities of waiting nine years to get a new lease on big league life. In my recent piece for Forbes, Aldridge said just how impactful even one major league paycheck is for a long-time minor leaguer.“Your average minor league ballplayer is making $500 every two weeks,” Aldridge said. “If you were playing [in the majors] you probably went from making well below minimum wage to one check is what you probably made in the last two years. … Your average minor leaguer probably makes five grand a year, and your average first [Major League] paycheck is probably 10-to-15 grand.” Cory Aldridge / Minda Haas Kuhlmann - FlickrIn our 30-minute interview for the Baseball Happenings Podcast, Aldridge shares his own struggles with injuries and how he contemplated quitting baseball multiple times after his 2001 Major League debut with the Atlanta Braves. His journey that landed him back in the majors with the Los Angeles Angels in 2010 is one of extreme perseverance under conditions that would have caused most professional athletes to hang up their gloves and spikes.

On Digmi Discussion Interview #23, we catch up with former Major League Baseball player, entrepreneur and health &amp; fitness guru, Cory Aldridge.  Cory, a native of Abilene, Texas, grew up athletic family, with his father playing professional football. And although Cory showed the same promise on the gridiron, it was his grandfather who was a respected baseball coach, that Cory to recognize his talents on the diamond. After choosing baseball over football, Cory dominated at the high school and travel/tournament level, gaining the attention of Major League scouts.  As a 17 year old, Cory was selected in the 4th round by the Atlanta Braves in the 1997 Major League Baseball amateur draft…leading to an 18 year professional baseball career. Listen to Cory talk about his journey from small town Texas boy, to working his way up the minor league ladder all the way to Atlanta. Listen as he reflects on his career playing along side Hall of Famers, dealing with injuries and the remarkable 10 year journey it took him to collect his first Major League hit.
