Jew Talkin’ To Me? with Josh Howie & Noam Shuster

Uplifting interview with Noam Shuster, a comedian and peace builder who was living her dream...until the pandemic hit and she was forced to adapt and be flexible. Her show at the Kennedy Center in NYC was cancelled. She flew back to Israel only to get Covid on the flight, be quarantined in one of Israel's infamous corona hotels, and then have to deal with all the symptoms of her new normal. Throughout it all she's learned to rest, have patience, and continue to create. We talk comedy, peacebuilding, becoming an online creator, feelings of doubt and self-worth and much more.  Noam is a freelance comedian, performer, peacebuilder and activist. She grew up in Neve Shalom Wahat Al Salam, the only intentional Jewish and Arab village in Israel. Noam performs in 3 languages, and through her cutting cynicism and humor, she is a natural bridge-builder. In 2018, she was named the “New Jewish Comedian of the Year” in London. The same year, she was also the first Jewish performer in the Palestine Comedy Festival. Noam spent 2019 on scholarship at the Harvard Divinity School developing her one woman show. As of today, Israel hasn’t been hit very hard by the Coronavirus, relatively speaking. The government took extreme measures early on, and managed to limit the spread of the virus and death toll. One of the unique steps taken by the Israeli government was to rent out entire hotels throughout the country, and convert them into Quarantined Hotels. The idea was simple - if you have Corona, and can’t isolate, check into the hotel, receive food and medical treatment and once you recover, you can checkout. Welcome to The Hotel Corona! Such a lovely place.Noam Shuster is a stand up comedian, a peace activist and recently, patient number 3555. Noam Shuster was raised in Wahat al Salam/Neve Shalom, the only intentional community in Israel where Palestinians and Jews live together as equals. There, she was educated in a bi-national, bi-lingual and bi-cultural school where she learned to speak fluent Arabic as a little girl. Noam was recruited to use this skill for Intelligence gathering in the army, but she declined the invitation because Noam always knew she would use it to communicate - not to spy on her neighbors.    Noam worked in peace building programs in Israel from a young age. She graduated with a degree in co-existence from Brandeis before going into activism and policy. She spent time working in Rwanda and with the UN's Interpeace Initiative before transitioning her career into full time comedy. She is now making massive audiences laugh while delivering potent messages around the problems in her country - and the potential solutions.
