#178 Creating a Refreshing Business with Dana Malstaff
The Refreshed Moms Podcast
So, here's the scoop on Dana and me.We're two business-y, mom leader gals who've become good friends. But when we get together, it's hard for us to talk straight up business.Instead, we end up talking about some of the intangibles of being a mom entrepreneur (and sometimes that means we're riffing on exploding boob growth). We can teach marketing. We can talk $ scaling (like my jargon-y word there?).We can go blue in the face on creating simple evergreen funnels that convert. But, we both know it doesn't mean a hill of beans if you're not enjoying your work, not making room for rest, and end up burnt out as a result of it.So, in this episode, Dana Malstaff, CEO of Boss-Mom™ is sharing what building a refreshing business actually means to her. And, it may not be what you think. What you'll hear: How prayer helped Dana through her divorce. How small 1-minute anchors throughout her day helped her transition into her new parenting season as a single mom.The hardest part of her balancing act of business and kids. And we get into a discussion on how we give ourselves permission to show up fully as we are in our work. How Dana Malstaff organically grew her Facebook community into a movement
Thinking Big Podcast
Sean welcomes Dana Malstaff to the Thinking Big podcast. Dana is the founder of the Boss Mom movement, which includes her Facebook community, courses, a YouTube channel, and the chart-topping podcast “The Boss Mom Podcast”. Her book, Boss Mom, was published in 2015 and kicked off her business and the Boss Mom movement. Dana has been featured in Fast Company, Amy Porterfield’s podcast, Goal Digger podcast, and more. One of my biggest takeaways from this episode is how she organically grew her Facebook community to over 50k, and why she runs it the way she does. Her methods are pretty genius. Today, we are thinking big about our communities, and how we show up. In this episode, you’ll also hear: The story behind how Boss Mom began. How Dana found her tribe to support her while she started her business. Why women have different motivations for starting a business than men. What feeling valued can do for your business. Dana’s email system and why every part of that ecosystem is important to your community. A breakdown of her Facebook community and how it grew organically. What Dana doesn’t allow in her Facebook community and why. Why she encourages questions and how those questions can spin into marketing and ideal clients. Dana’s affinity for systems and how they help increase productivity and flexibility. How breaking down an expert system so that people can easily understand it leads to success. Why familiarity is optimal in most cases. Novelty is less sought after. Asking questions is growing, and no one is perfect the way they are. Dana sees perfection as a moving goal, and being messy should be the goal. About the Nurture to Convert YouTube channel Dana just launched. Episode 70 - Dana Malstaff Boss Mom Talks With Amanda Jane Clarkson - Editor Millionairess Magazine
A Conversation with Dana Malstaff and Amanda Jane Clarkson - Raising a Business and Nurturing Your Family Like a Pro On today’s uplifting podcast, I share an inspiring conversation with Dana Malstaff who has mastered coexisting her business and family life. Dana is the CEO and founder of Boss Mom, she is a mother, author, speaker, business strategist, podcaster, blindspot reducer, and movement maker. She launched the Boss Mom brand with her first book, Boss Mom: The Ultimate Guide to Raising a Business and Nurturing Your Family Like a Pro, and quickly grew to a 6-figure business within a year. Now, she has thousands of students in various courses and helps women all over the world raise their businesses and babies at the same time. She believes that pursuing our passions and building our dreams, while including our children in the process, is the best way to build thriving businesses and families, and ultimately we need to show our children that what we love can be financially viable. You will love hearing Dana’s story where it all started. After leaving her job, starting a business and finding out she was pregnant... the adventure began. Dana knew she didn’t want to be a stay at home mum and expressed how important it was for her to build a business and make money at the same time as nurturing her family. Dana believes you can have it all. You don’t have to pick between being a Mum and having a business. Women have big beautiful brains - you can do it all. Family and business priorities can all coexist. I believe in intentional coexisting, not balance. You can do whatever you want. There’s so much opportunity. I asked Dana to share how she deals with feelings of guilt as a mum and entrepreneur. “I’m confident in my decisions. If I’m not confident, I always ask why am I feeling guilty? Where is the tension? What are my choices?” she says. “Be conscious about the choices you are making. Guilt is just a byproduct of not making decisions. There is always a choice and you can work through it”. We discuss the importance in finding a safe space to be surrounded by people that understand and get you. “That’s why she created Boss Mum. Only ask the right people the right questions. Surround yourselves with people that think you are brave, not crazy. If they think you’re crazy, then they’re not the right people to ask for advice. We all have our groups”. Dana also shares some great tips on failure and what to do during the tough times. Your failures are not unique. If you have a fear, you won't want to miss hearing about “Calling the elephant in the room” and what it can possibly do for you. Hear how Dana is aiming to help women every single morning feel valued and loved. It’s a podcast you’ll love from several different areas of life. "A community is a way to help us create a business that loves us back and makes us feel all valuable. I think we should not discount how much of our emotions and our brain drives our ability to be productive." "There is always opportunity for failure and disruption.
