Jordyn Lexton, Founder and Executive Director of Drive Change After teaching English on Riker’s Island for three years and witnessing the traumatic effects of adult jail on youth, Jordyn came up with the concept of Drive Change in 2012 and has spent the past 18 months bringing her dream to life by working in the NYC food sector and NYC reentry/criminal justice field. Jordyn holds a BA in English from Wesleyan University and a MA in Teaching from Pace University.  “We are a food truck social enterprise. Already a rising star in the wine world, Maniec is also the face of Corkbuzz, which she plans to expand in 2014 with Corkbuzz Wine Bar in New York City’s bustling Chelsea Market and Corkbuzz Wine Studio in Charlotte, North Carolina.  “At some point before opening the restaurant, I looked around and said ‘you only have one life and you have to be happy and do what you really really truly believe in.’ ” [43:00] –Laura Maniec on Radio Cherry Bombe While she served as Executive Chef of A Voce restaurants from the fall of 2008 to spring of 2013, Missy Robbins received critical acclaim for creating classic Italian specialties with a contemporary twist. Under Robbins’ direction, A Voce Madison earned a Michelin star in 2009, while A Voce Columbus earned its Michelin star in 2010 and maintained them throughout her tenure. They start off the show discussing how the recent Velveeta shortage is affecting America, as well as how Kraft is dealing with the issue. The hosts welcome Drive Change founder Jordyn Lexton to the show, and they discuss the recent buzz over Alinea’s Chef Grant Achatz’s tweet which called out parents who bring their loud children to high end restaurants. After the break, Jordyn tells us about the Drive Change program and how it benefits youths with criminal records.  		This week we had a fascinating talk with educator/entrepreneur, Jordyn Lexton. You might remember your high school years being tough, but as Jordyn explains, attending class in prison is whole different ball of wax. You see, Jordyn’s niche was teaching kids within the New York City criminal justice system and after an eye-opening stint at Riker’s, Jordyn was inspired to invent a business from the ground up called Drive Change. Drive Change addresses the persistent issue of recidivism and it’s an outstanding concept. It builds and operates state-of-the-art, locally sourced food trucks that hire and train kids returning to the community from prison. Drive Change provides real, transferable and life-changing skills for these young adults… as well as delectable pork buns for your lunch hour.
