BONUS Episode--Sex Ed: Read All About It! (ft. Christina C. Jones)
TSOB w/ Dr. G--The Sex Ed of Blackfolk
T.S.O.B. is still on break for the summer and coming off the heels of a phenomenal live show; in the meantime, Dr. G took the time to chat it up with an indirect sexuality educator of sorts, romance novelist and creative Christina C. Jones. Not a typical educator-to-educator conversation by any means; however, the two had a wonderful discussion about centering Blackness in love stories, combating stigma and biphobia against Black gay men, and the capacity for romance novels to facilitate important discussions about reproductive health, contraceptives, STIs, consent, and much, much more! A lovely listen to hold you over as we move into the Fall--check it out! NOTE: A scene from the Christina's novel "Something Like Love", in which heroine Astrid claps back at two biphobic women during a heated conversation in her love interest's hometown was discussed during this episode; the specific excerpt from that scene can be listened to here: Episode Transcripts are delayed, but will be forthcoming as soon as possible. #fallsonlove episode 060: EJD + OTHER THINGS FT. CHRISTINA C. JONES
In a series of podcast episodes that get to the heart of the authors whose works drew me to romance in particular, I've rounded up some friends to come along for the ride and discuss these authors, their works, and how they influence(d)/impact(ed). One of the first names on my list was Eric Jerome Dickey and I knew that I couldn't discuss him with no one other than my girl CCJ. Christina and mine's conversation begins loosely guided by Friends and Lovers x EJD, but we meander into a bevy of other subjects. It's a long ride, but it's worth every second of the journey in my less than humble opinion, ha! Haunted The title of this book is so apt. The atmosphere around Khalida is eerie and the sense that she is being haunted is palpable. As she tries to convince herself she is content in her life, Aram enters and shows her that she truly longs for so much more. At first the path to understanding her true nature and history is hard but with Aram as a catalyst Khalida rediscovers her memories and what she has been missing. The scenes between Aram and Khalida could not be hotter! The electricity jumps off the page and runs along your skin making everything tingle. The whole book kept us engaged and guessing as to what was coming next. Coveted Four years after writing Haunted, Christina returns to the world to give us Khalida’s sister’s story. We follow as mysterious things keep happening around Ancelin and lead to Nasir being assigned to protect her from the darkness. This book is a good follow up to Haunted but suffers a bit from the twist not being as surprising. Luckily, the sex is just as steamy! The massage scene in particular was one of our favorites. Don’t get too excited for a nice resolution, the book ends with so much more to be investigated and explained. We look forward to revisiting this world when more books come, hopefully it's not another four years! ***We would love and appreciate it if you could Subscribe then Rate & Review us on iTunes!
