Income Suite House Hacking with Jennifer Ward

The House Hacking Podcast

This week, we have another Denver house hacking treat for you all! We know how high living cost areas can be a burden and wanted to give everyone a few examples as to how you can hack those expensive housing costs. Jennifer and her husband first started with a house in Denver. They soon realized Airbnb was taking off and decided to go house hunt for a property that has an income suite that can easily be rented on Airbnb. Still keeping the original house and renting it out, Jennifer and her husband moved to a new house just outside of Denver. By using a hard money loan, she was able to make short-term payments while getting the Airbnb renovations done. After living 3 years in this house, Jennifer and her husband decided to move back to the original house and renovate it into a similar Airbnb style house. By renting this Airbnb in the original out to travel nurses, Jennifer was able to cut down more than half of her housing costs. Life Over Pain - Jennifer Ward - Coping Through Humor and Holistic Wellness

Life Over Pain

Jennifer Ward has built a full life after a bike accident left her with a traumatic brain injury at 19. In fact she tried to go one with her life like she was largely unaffected after she got out of treatment. She went back to work as a lifeguard and back to college. She did realize she had to slow down a bit over time. And she still managed to get married and have children, become a reiki master and nutritional advisor. She does struggle with memory loss and emotional regulation, like so many of us with traumatic brain injury. In fact she and I met because we both went through the Mt. Sinai Emotional Regulation program in NYC. It's helped us recognize how we are triggered to react with immediate, outsized emotions and try to take action beforehand. Her kids even help her. Jennifer is trying every day to move through this space more elegantly.A Note On The Life Over Pain Theme Music:Emily Bielagus graciously and generously composed the lovely theme music for the Life Over Pain podcast. Jennifer Ward's journey from scholastic journalism, to managing at a large newspaper, to opening a game store

Behind the Byline

"Change with the journey." That's Jennifer Ward's advice to young journalists. She fell in love with journalism at her college newspaper and yearbook, and went on to work for the Dallas Morning News and the Fresno Bee. However, she followed her heart, changed with the journey, and eventually opened her own tabletop game store in Fresno, California. She still uses many of the skills developed as a journalist, especially research and interviewing. In this interview, she shares her advice and experience with hosts Evan Blackwell and Jenica Hallman. Questions? Comments? Suggestions? Leave a review or send them to podcasts@walsworth.com.
