She speaks about her experiment to see if she could value and appreciate both the shit AND the gold in a surprising way."...It brought me to this place of appreciating the need for outfitting as well as adorning...When I outfit myself, I'm ready for a street fight—that's my amour. She offers up some new rules she's crafted for herself, borrowing this one from Monica Lewinsky: "No one can tell me I am not a reliable narrator of my own life." "My relationship with rules has been rather loud, and I've had lots of consequences for that. But I find with every year I live my life...I'm getting louder, which is saying something, because I was loud before..."- Lael Couper JepsonFMI: www.shechanges.com/experiences-for…ming-shespeaks/Photo credit: Melissa Mullen Photography

In this story, Lael talks about the "red light moments" of life when the dashboard alerts you something is amiss, and how these are the moments of the unknown where women start to get really resourceful...and busy. "When the red lights go on on our dash, we reach for the answer as if there is an answer....Intellectually we know there's no owner's manual for living a human life...but there are just so many unknowns...The holy grail is inside us, but so often we reach outside ourselves for the answer..."- Lael Couper JepsonFMI: http://www.shechanges.com/experiences-for-women/shespeaks-womens-speaking-series/upcoming-shespeaks/Photo credit: Melissa Mullen Photography

025: SheChanges – Take Your Idea for a Spin: Lael Couper Jepson

The Art of The Break

You are not alone. That is the first thing Lael Couper Jepson wants you to know. We all have dreams and desires mixed with fear. What we are most afraid of is being “caught” failing. We need to learn how to sit with that. What if we faced that thing or idea that scares us with an element of play? Picture a dream or idea you've been carrying with you, and now think…”Wanna give it a whirl? Wanna try? Let’s go find out!”  Take your idea for a spin. Lael’s journey included visions of becoming a Rockette, A Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader, and an attorney in Boston. What she is…is a writer, artist, performer, instigator of change, visionary, a champion for women’s storytelling and a community builder. She also rides shotgun for organizational business leaders to make the compelling case for change – breathe life into a new vision, or lay down the bigger bolder expectations of how to approach their work. In this conversation, we talk about how Fear and Desire are linked. You know you are doing it right when it feels good.  Go ahead and try. Lael Couper Jepson Bio Lael likes to add fuel to what’s already smoldering. She is a seasoned boat rocker and professional instigator of change, with a penchant for women’s leadership.  She jumped ship in 2006 after eleven years as an organization development consultant in the corporate world and founded SheChanges to work with people who share her impatience with the pace of change – people ready to buck the rules, challenge the status quo, and dare to create the change they want to see happen – ready or not.  “Truth be told, my mission is to start a revolution – one that leverages the power of women to re-imagine our world. Whether it’s meeting one-on-one, facilitating a group, speaking on stage or leading a weekend retreat, there is always a call to action embedded in my work, designed to inspire, ignite, and unleash the creativity, passion, and ingenuity we carry inside ourselves.” Lael Couper Jepson  http://www.shechanges.com

Mustering Courage: Interview with Lael Couper Jepson

The Courageous Path

I have been waiting for some time to interview this incredible woman, my former coach, who helped me change my life to do this work. Join me for this illuminating conversation with Lael Jepson of SheChanges about mustering courage, getting to the edge of fear, and riveting storytelling.Lael Couper Jepson is the owner of SheChanges, a Portland-based business that supports women in more fully unleashing their power to be architects of change – for their lives, their business, or as leaders within organizations and communities. As a certified professional coach with an extensive background in consulting and organizational change, Lael has worked with women nationally over the past ten years in her business, making a name for herself and her SheChanges community as the place where women take themselves, their visions, and their specific ideas for change seriously — but it in a way that deeply honors their own resourcefulness so women don’t wait to feel “ready” or “enough”. Instead they take inspired action, and trust they will figure it out as they go. And they do. Lael is passionate about storytelling as a means for women to not feel so alone, and has held countless local events such as SheSpeaks, Homecoming, and Mustang Sallies to inspire women to share their stories more publicly as a means to ignite courageous action. Most recently, Lael wrote about her own story in her book, Unscripted: A Woman’s Living Prayer.------If you liked what you heard today, I invite you to follow or subscribe here. For more on me, Rachel Horton White, and the life coaching, mindfulness instruction, hypnotherapy and intuitive readings I offer, please visit www.soulfulworkconsulting.com.Music by Chris Kemp White (www.chriskempwhite.com).
