"Technologies tend to automate workers doing boring tasks, blockchains automate the intermediary. Instead of taxi drivers, blockchain puts Uber out of a job and lets the taxi drivers work with the customer directly"

One of the philosophical things that I hope to achieve is to decouple the concept that public goods have to come from one central organization.
Trying to combine the value of decentralization and open source to make it sustainable in supporting those working on these projects, without turning that support into the centralization of a group.

The best of both decentralization and centralized operations.

One of the issues with late twenty century thinking is the mentality that nature is good and disruptions from nature are bad.
Nature can be in terms of actual scientific nature but also anything with similar characteristics, such as free markets in financial markets.

COVID-19 has really flipped a lot of minds, as it's been undeniable that the default in nature isn't always safe.

If we left nature as it is, many of us would be suffering significantly more than we should, and it is only with human intervention, can we do what's best.

3

Whether we'd still value life the same, if we had immortality.
Many philosophers argue that it is death, which is the scarcity of life, that creates value in our time alive.

Vitalik believes that so long as there's conflict and scarcity of some thing, not necessarily life itself, we'll strive to achieve and make use of our time, but he's not sure of what that may be in the future.
