"Friendship is a product of a willingness to be vulnerable & advances along the access of your mutual vulnerability"

Ideas

1

Honest & deep regret can be used to find what to focus on in order to live more positively in the future.
We often associate regret as something that we should never have, people commonly say 'no regrets'.

But for David, he's found it incredibly useful, to actually think of moments in life that he deeply regrets, because from that, he was able to learn about what things to do differently.

For example, you might treat a grandson with more patience and time than you did your own son, because you regretted the lack of attention you gave when your son was still a boy.

2

The ultimate touchstone of friendship is not improvement, neither of the self nor of others, it's just witness.
The privilege of having been seen by someone and the equal privilege of being granted the sight of another, to have walked with and believed in someone on a journey that's impossible to accomplish alone, is the beauty of true friendship.

3

Honesty is grounded in humility and in fact, humiliation. It's admitting where it is that we are powerless.
Honesty isn't found in revealing the truth, but in understanding how deeply afraid of it we are. To become honest is in effect, to fully and robustly embodied into powerlessness.
