In the Plodcast, pastor Douglas Wilson covers anything related to theology and culture with his usual entertaining style. Whether it involves talking about Chestertonian Calvinism (not an oxymoron), the benefits of a Classical Christian education (not in that order), or the latest pomosexuality farce, the plodcast aims to apply all of Christ to all of life, for all the world. Douglas Wilson is an evangelical, postmill, Calvinist, Reformed, and Presbyterian (pretty much in that order) and is politically to the right of Jeb Stuart.

 Show Notes:

Isreal & Middle East Conflict:

  • there has been endless Middle East conflict, and it is easy to push it to the side
  • however there are things that Christians need to pay attention to
  • I am not an adherent of manifest destiny
  • you can’t unscramble the egg
  • we ought to recognize that Isreal has the right to occupy the space she currently has

The Conservative Mind:

  • written by Russel Kirk
  • one of the values of conservative temperament is that it is not idealogical
  • the conservative is suspicious of systems
  • the conservative prefers the devil he knows to the devil he doesn’t know

Alusiteles:

  • The NT describes sins of omission in different ways
  • Heb. 13:17 - the saints are told to avoid making their rulers assigned task a grief
  • they are to be a joy to serve, not a grief
  • when this is not done, the result is unprofitable (alusiteles)
  • when worshipers find that their whole church experience is “unprofitable” for them, this is one of the possible reasons they should check

  • found in Acts 25:27, 2 Pet. 2:12, Jude 1:10
  • sin permitted in destroys a man’s capacity to make sense of the world around him

After that he plods on to review Jennifer Ackerman's book, “Genius of Birds”. Finally Wilson takes a look at Hamartia in Thessalonians. Happy Plodding!

Show Notes:

Essential Oils:

  • The real issue is that it appears to have gone beyond a product being marketed to do what various products do
  • They now have an oil that helps you make good financial decisions
  • The essential oil market is starting to create a plausibility structure
  • All you have to do is keep amping the claims for essential oils up and the people inside the plausibility structure will follow along unless someone calls them out

  • If you want amazing levels of details on what birds can do, this is your book

Show Notes:

Woke Evangelicalism:

  • By abandoning discussion of Christ and His cross we are abandoning any hope for a reconciliation

  • Wilson is not opposed to the universal harmony that the woke are pursuing. Rather, he is opposed to misguided proposals that will make things worse

Show Notes:

Wives Leaving Husbands:

  • The Greco-Roman world had many mixed marriages, this was not commonplace where Jesus was teaching
  • Paul says you should not abstain sexual relations with an unbelieving spouse
  • When you have two believers, the allowance for divorce is porneas (unfaithfullness)
  • When you have a mixed marriage and the unbeliever leaves, the believer is not bound in such circumstances

Show Notes:

The Revoice Conference:

  • They want it to be possible for someone to be a gay celibate
  • The main thing that is wrong with this is that it is privileging gender confusion sexuality issues in a way that we never would privilege any other sin
  • This is like having your identity be in gambling but you never actually bet anything
  • This whole thing is not a sustainable project
  • What are the transgenders committing to not do?

Darwin’s House of Cards:

  • Written by Tom Bethel
  • He is bringing us up to speed on the debate of darwinism
