#81 - 5 Simple Ways to Get Your Skin Glowing Like the Sun

Greetings Lifers,I just learned that today is National Ex-Spouse Day.    Breaking up is truly one of life's hardest things to do, especially when you're head over heels for the person, or you've dedicated so much time and energy into the relationship then it abruptly or slowly decays and ends.  If you've never had a heart-wrenching breakup then thank the good Lord above.Did you know that the National Today Data Science Team surveyed 230 previously married Americans about their exes and found that: 17% say their ex got on their nerves! 9% said they split the household chores with their ex-spouse.6% say they wear the pants in the relationship.   16% of divorced men, the most popular annoying trait about their ex-wives was being a "control freak" (any control freaks out there?  I think I'm one of them).  17% of women said their most popular was their ex-husband's "selective listening".Let's not just look at the breakup as a bad thing.  Let's instead, look at what some of the good things that might've come out of it. I did this exercise a few times and it really makes me happier.  I've always believed that we meet people for a certain reason. They may only be in our lives for a short period of time, or, possibly a much lengthier one.  Think about some of the amazing times you spent together, or, maybe they taught you how to do or live some way you never did before.  If you look at the positives of what you actually got out of the time together, it will be easier to put the hurt behind and heal.If you're newly divorced, I'm sorry for your loss.  But one thing I've learned is that we can lick our wounds only for so long.  We must get up off our laurels, take a shower, get dressed, put on some nice clothes, a bit of perfume, do our hair (or get a new hairstyle and color), and some makeup, and get back in the game.  One of the best things you can do for yourself right now is do something loving for yourself.  Give yourself or treat yourself to a mani-pedi, a much-needed massage, facial, or take yourself out to a nice restaurant for a bite to eat.  But, doing something good for yourself is the first step to healing. Another great way to heal from past hurts is to spend more time with family and friends that feed your well.  That breaths life into your life.  Don't hang around those who will deplete your energy.  Now is the time to protect yourself from them.  Call friends with whom you can spend hours laughing together, you know the kind, those deep belly laughs where you can't catch your breath and your face starts to hurt from laughing so much.  This is the best medicine of all that you can find on this earth (and it won't cost a penny).Clearing out clutter can also be a refreshing way to begin anew.  Out with the old, in with the new.  Do a mini closet clearing.  Take out all of the clothes that no longer serve your life as it is today.  Remove all clothes that no longer fit, have any altered that you love and still want to have.  And, if the budget allows, pick up a couple of new items to mix in the old ones and give it a bit of a refresher.  Donate or give away any of the older items you no longer want.  One of the most fun parts of a breakup is that now you get to think about yourself.  Take the time to do new things, explore.  Try adding one new thing to your day.  A new route to work, a new color of lipstick (one of my favorite lipstick brands is Bobby Brown, or try a new style - a bohemian peasant blouse?It's important to have new goals and things to do.  Get your mind on something fun.  Think of 5 things you've always wanted to do but haven't done thus far.  Then take the time and do one at a time and check them off.  Make it a game, keep adding new ones each time you finish the last set.  Keep your life fresh and you'll be much happier in the long run. Or, I might've asked questions and got the response  "that's a good question" because they may not have thought about it and made them go a little deeper on the subject.  Today's podcast is a gentle reminder to ask good questions when it comes to getting answers to important things that happen in our lives. #74 How to Make A Great First Impression and Leave a Greater Lasting One

Welcome Lifers,Today is National Splurge Day.  What's yours going to be?  Can I just say, I think this day may just become my new favorite day of the year.  I think sometimes we feel we shouldn't indulge or say “splurge” on ourselves.  That we should do for others instead, well that's fine and dandy, but you do deserve a splurge on yourself from time-to-time. Whatever your indulgence, today is the day to do it. Now you may not be able to jet off and take that yacht on the French Riviera, but, maybe you can “fake it till you make it” so if you have a ferry boat or schooner nearby, jump on and take a ride.  Or it just might be your local 'cruise' around the lake, just get going and have some indulgence. Have you ever smelled the wonderful fragrance from a Jo Malone scented candle, or her amazing fragrances? Or, what about a lovely Diptique candle or even better yet, how about their body lotions. I once bought one  from Bergdorf Goodman's in NYC and used it for years (a long-lasting splurge indeed). Yes, I said years, since I would only use it on special occasions, or, days when I felt down in the dumps and needed a quick pick me up. That's one of the wonderful things about fragrances, they really can kick the senses into high gear. What about a splurge on taking yourself on a much needed over-night stay at your favorite  bed and breakfast hotel or even a friends cabin? Can you feel the peace rolling off you yet?What about taking a splurge with a splash in a beautiful bubble bath, or, any body of water will do, do you live near a lake, a pond, a pool, or have a friends with one? Hello Beautiful Lifers,Have you ever gone shopping for makeup whether at a department store counter, or, at a CVS, only to go home, try it on and think to yourself "what was I thinking?".  Makeup colors can be very tricky, as a professional makeup artist, I've been studying color and in particular, makeup colors and which looks best on which skin tone.  But, one thing, I found is that all makeup is NOT created equal.  Nor, are the treatment products.Today I will cover how to find the right colors for your skin's temperature and how to find your skin's temperature now.So, what do you do when you went to the store and purchased all these goodies?  Well, the first thing I want you to do BEFORE you go to the counter to purchase your goodies is to ask them their return policy for makeup.  Most places you can return open makeup products as long as you let them know you have opened and tried the product.  This will be sure that it doesn't end up back in the aisle.I had a friend who never took anything back to the store to return items.  It made me crazy.  To think she wasted hundreds of dollars and left it for them to have.  She'd never wear the clothes she bought that she didn't like, or, any makeup or skincare (even expensive perfumes).  These all can be returned.  Again, just double check with the store's policies and you'll know.Whatever you do, do not use the samples that they put out on the counters.  There are a gazillion of bacteria that get into them.  Purchase the item and if you don't like it, be sure to return it.I also cover some ways on how to beat S.A.D. (Seasonal Affective Disorder) (yes, it's a real thing) and make your winter feel less dreary.So grab your favorite pair of ear buds, your favorite beverage and pop on over.  I'll see you inside. LNNL EP#15 Dawn-Marie Talks Spring Fashion Trends on The Ed Tyll Show 

Today is National Tequila Day.  Tequila is one of my favorite drinks.  The first time I ever had it was in Mexico back in 1983.  Have you ever seen the worm at the bottle of Tequila?  It freaked me out the first time I saw one.  Couldn't believe that people actually drank it. Tequila is made from the blue agave plant which is harvested by hand.  It's stripped down and ground up in a stone bowl and then the extract is collected and distilled.  One of my favorite brands is Herradura Tequila it's smooth and best when chilled. How can you celebrate Tequila Day?  Well, if you have a Bahama Breeze restaurant near you, they're offering $5 Margaritas 7/24 - 7/26.  Better yet, pick up Or, pick up a nice bottle of tequila (see above link) and make them at home with some fresh squeezed lime juice and simple sugar, blend with ice and viola - you're Margarita.  You can also add fruit of your choice.  I just love a Strawberry Margarita.  Be sure to call over some friends, and have them bring the Guacamole, chips and Salsa dip, put on some Mexican tunes and get in the groove.  You could also go for a tequila tasting.  Check out your local libation stores to see if anyone is running one.   Have fun, share some of your Margarita or Tequila drinks and remember to always drink responsibly. When the pressure is on, it's easy for us to crack under it.  Are you able to remain calm and poised or do you fly off the handle like a madman when things are getting out of whack? I used to be the second one above many, many years ago and then I quickly learned that it wasn't going to do my health any good so I learned how to adjust and become more peaceful when handling stress. It's never easy when we're faced with challenging moments.  Our fight or flight response will always kick into high gear leaving us frazzled and exhausted.   Today's quick episode contains a podcast I did about this topic,  then I actually had a challenging moment, and I recorded another message while I was in the thick of it.     Remember when you're in that stress zone to stay as calm as possible and remember "this too shall pass". LNNL EP#037  How Well Do You Handle Stress?  Do You Crack Under Pressure?

April is National Home Decorating month which is one of my favorite pastimes.  Is your home in need of some sprucing up?  If so, now's the time to do it.   Are you looking to just give your home a thorough cleaning, or, a full kitchen renovation, if you have the budget, go for it, now is your chance. There are plenty of Spring home furnishing sales going on right now so if  you're looking for a new set of sheets or bedding which will make your bedroom look totally different or if you're looking for  new living room furniture, the sales are bountiful, so take advantage to find what find what you're looking for to make your home feel new and vibrant.  Decorating your home doesn't have to cost you a lot of money.  Just adding a few small touches can do a lot.  If you love the scent of candles, pick up a couple of inexpensive ones at your local Walmart, Big Lots or Home Goods store.  You'll be glad you did.  There's nothing like making your home cozy and inviting. One of the hardest things for me growing up was to ask for what I wanted.  Even if someone asked me what I wanted, I was often vague and a bit squeamish trying to articulate what it was that I wanted.  Until, one day, as I was reading a book, (I don't recall which one it was) and it read "do you ask for what you want?".  I thought about that question for some time and realized I truly didn't. As the time went on, I slowly began asking for what I wanted and was in awe of the great responses I'd receive.  I seemed to get more Yes' than no's.  Today's episode is a quick but important one to help you reach your goals and strive to fulfill your dreams.  So take a listen and begin to ask for what you want.  If you don't ask for what you want, guess what happens?  You'll never get it!!!  So, today's episode is to make you ponder the question:  Do I ask for what I want?  Take a listen, and get determined to start asking for what you want, you'll be amazed and what happens. Along with a new year might just mean some new travel plans.   Whether you're about to take a vacation with your honey or go on a full blown family excursion, packing can be a real drag. One of the things I've always loved best about this season is that we get to travel around with our friends and loved ones but if you're anything like me, packing for a trip can become quite a conundrum.     Today's episode will cover the tips to pack with ease.  Sometimes packing for a trip can seem a bit daunting.  Not only do we own way too many things, we seem to want to take everything along with us.    Unfortunately, we just can't empty out our homes when we travel on the road.  So, what's one to do?  One of the things is to always have a master packing list available at your fingertips. LNNL EP#013 - Are You Ready To Hustle for What You Want in 2017?

Today is National I Love My Feet Day!  Do you pamper your tootsies? If you're anything like me, you love a great pair of shoes, am I right? Ladies out there, we tend to squeeze our feet into shoes that don't fit us correctly.  Are too tight around the toes or just don't fit well. Since today is in honor of our tootsies, I thought I would give a quick little homage to them.  I don't think we give our poor little toes enough justice.  We take them for granted.  How often do you get a pedicure?  Is it just during the summer months when you know people will see your toes?  I hope not.  Our feet need to be cared for year-round. If you're a runner in particular, then you must know how you can truly beat them up.   If you're ashamed to flaunt your digits it may be because you haven't been taking good care of them in the first place.  If you have a fungus, I will be adding a link below to a great product to quickly help get rid of it.  Be sure to keep your toes dry and that will also keep the fungus away. LNNL EP#021 Happy National I Love My Feet Day!

Today is National Relaxation Day. What do you do to relax? Do you take time to relax? You know what is said about stress – it's the silent killer.   I know a lot about stress. When I work a full-time job, run two podcasts and a businesses to go along with them.  I take care of all of the editing, graphics, marketing, sales, typing, webmastering, and home caring and still trying to get my workouts in so that I can stay fit. There are so many daily stresses in our lives, we MUST find time to relax.  I didn't even touch on children.  I don't know how parents do it!      One of my favorite things I used to love to do when I lived in NY and there weren't many places to go to relax was to find a fountain at one of the office buildings sit at it and hang out for about 30 minutes while I sipped a cup of coffee, tea or cocoa (depending on the time of day/ and time of year) and just from listening to the sound of the running water of the fountain, I'd train myself to immediately let go and deep breath and just BE in the moment and relax.   What do you do to de-stress? Do you take at least 15-20 minutes a day to yourself to unwind and just be? Finding the thing that gives you the most pleasure during the shortest amount of time is one way to help introduce it into your daily lives. LNNL EP #020 Stress No More - It's National Relaxation Day!!

I just loved the movie Mermaids  with Cher and Wynona Ryder.  There was a scene when Wynona's character was asking Cher how would she know if this boy was "the one" and Cher bursts into song singing "The Shoop, Shoop Song (it's in his kiss)".  well, I often wonder if it's in his kiss or is it in yours?   One of the things I feel is often neglected are our lips.  We worry about wrinkles around our eyes, sagging skin, etc., but do we worry about taking care of our pucker?    You're probably already saying to yourself "well, I put onl lipstick every day isn't that enough?"  Well, the answer to that is a big fat N.O.!!!   Our lips need special attention just like our eyes, neck or any other part of our face and body.     If you find you have chapped, flaky lips, one of the quickest ways to heal them is to first take a dry toothbrush and rub it across your lips, this will help loosen the dry flaky skin and remove it.  Just don't brush too hard.   The second is to be sure to protect them especially in the harsh months during the winter and summer time.  I love the Clinique Targeted Balm.  I use this every time I go out in the sun or if in harsh winter I use it then as well.  It keeps your lips from getting sunburned and moistens them at the same time.     A couple of my favorite chapped lip remedies are Carmex  and Blistex Lip Ointment .   And please don't forget -- not only do we need to take good care of our lips, but, we also need to take great care of what's around and in-between them as well.    One of the quickest ways to look years younger is to whiten your teeth.  I'm a huge fan of the Crest White Strips. What I love most about them is that they work, they're affordable and you can travel with them.  The second best way which is a bit more time consuming a little bit more messy is to use a whitening bleach with trays and an LED Light which work very well for darker stains. I love the feeling of mouthwash it always makes me feel like I have a clean mouth.  I'm so digging this cool mouthwash decanter.   Now don't forget after all your great efforts to make your pout beautiful and healthy, be sure to make it stand out and shine.  Some of my favorite lipglosses are from MAC, Estee Lauder and Bobbi Brown. LNNL EP#19 It's In His Kiss -- Or -- Is It in Yours?

Today is National Leg Wear Day and it made me wonder how many of you ladies out there take advantage of this soon to be forgotten fashion accessory? Which type do you like to wear? Are you the traditional type wearing only solid black, navy or nude? Or, are you more adventurous type wearing wild patterns, checks, prints and vibrant colors? As a professional image consultant I've learned that leg wear can make or break an outfit. Also, it is imperative to wear them if the occasion calls for it. If you notice, more and more women are steering clear of wearing them. I still consult my clients and tell them the importance of wearing a pair, especially if it's for an important meeting or if you're say, speaking on stage. When I teach my “What's My Style” fashion class, I help women and men learn what their fashion styles are – there are 7. Fall has arrived and now's the time to take advantage of the season by adding some cool and fun leggings as well as tights, pantyhose and other fun legwear by incorporating them into your daily fashion routines. Have you ever thought about wearing a pair of fishnets to the office? Some folks may think that's a little bit much, but, you most certainly can wear them as long as they're the right webbing. For instance, the larger the weave, the less “sexy” they look. I found several pair years ago that I love to wear to work, they're beige, white and purple. I've worn them to office meetings, network events and speaking engagements. They actually look fun, exciting and personable. Here are a couple you can try: Fishnet Stockings  If you like more of the creative styles, you may like to add some of these fun and whimsical ones: Fun &amp; Whimsical Tights Not only do these tights make your legs look more fashionable, up-to-date and pulled together; you'll also be able to camouflage some of those not-so-lovely things that you may not like about them such as spider and varicose veins, scars or stretch marks AND the best part is that you may even be able to skip a couple of leg shavings (no one will know but you and possibly your significant other).   I remember when I had my ankle tendon repair surgery. It was back in 2004 and I had this terrible looking scar that ran from one end of my ankle to another (I fell in a sink hole outside my home in Brooklyn) and wearing tights and dark color pantyhose make me feel so much better about the appearance of my legs. It covered up the scar until it was lightened where I could go back to wearing au-naturel They were my saving grace. They not only kept the scar from being seen, it also kept me from constantly looking at it as a reminder of the fall. If you've never been one to wear tights, you might want to begin slowly. I'd say introduce a pair that might have a tiny tight weave or small light pattern. Nothing too flashy or revealing. But, if you're looking to go from “drab and dreary to a vixen” then try on some thigh highs. Here are a couple of my favorites:  Thigh Highs You can't help but immediately feel sexier once you slide on your first pair and, another bonus, your partner will be drooling all over you once they find out what you're wearing. If you want to push the envelope, add a garter belt to match. Here are a couple of combination hosiery: Garter Belts with Stockings  The last thing I want to share with you is that the legging or even   Jeggings (jeans/legging combo) is one of the quickest ways to enhance your casual work pieces which you can add to your wardrobe that will not only flatter just about every leg length out there, but, they're quite easy to wear, comfortable as hell and you can wear them year-round. Today is National Leg Wear Day and it made me wonder how many of you ladies out there take advantage of this soon to be forgotten fashion accessory? Which type do you like to wear? Are you the traditional type wearing only solid black, navy or nude? Or, are you more adventurous type wearing wild patterns, checks, prints and vibrant colors? As a professional image consultant I've learned that leg wear can make or break an outfit. Also, it is imperative to wear them if the occasion calls for it. If you notice, more and more women are steering clear of wearing them. I still consult my clients and tell them the importance of wearing a pair, especially if it's for an important meeting or if you're say, speaking on stage. Fall has arrived and now's the time to take advantage of the season by adding some cool and fun leggings as well as tights, pantyhose and other fun legwear by incorporating them into your daily fashion routines. Have you ever thought about wearing a pair of fishnets to the office? Some folks may think that's a little bit much, but, you most certainly can wear them as long as they're the right webbing. For instance, the larger the weave, the less “sexy” they look. I found several pair years ago that I love to wear to work, they're beige, white and purple. I've worn them to office meetings, network events and speaking engagements. They actually look fun, exciting and personable. Here are a couple you can try: <a href="http://amzn.to/2yjclHY" rel="noopener nofollow" target="_blank">Fishnet Stockings</a> If you like more of the creative styles, you may like to add some of these fun and whimsical ones: <a href="http://amzn.to/2gf9wld" rel="noopener nofollow" target="_blank">Fun &amp; Whimsical Tights</a> Not only do these tights make your legs look more fashionable, up-to-date and pulled together; you'll also be able to camouflage some of those not-so-lovely things that you may not like about them such as spider and varicose veins, scars or stretch marks AND the best part is that you may even be able to skip a couple of leg shavings (no one will know but you and possibly your significant other). I remember when I had my ankle tendon repair surgery. It was back in 2004 and I had this terrible looking scar that ran from one end of my ankle to another (I fell in a sink hole outside my home in Brooklyn) and wearing tights and dark color pantyhose make me feel so much better about the appearance of my legs. It covered up the scar until it was lightened where I could go back to wearing au-naturel They were my saving grace. They not only kept the scar from being seen, it also kept me from constantly looking at it as a reminder of the fall. If you've never been one to wear tights, you might want to begin slowly. I'd say introduce a pair that might have a tiny tight weave or small light pattern. Nothing too flashy or revealing. But, if you're looking to go from “drab and dreary to a vixen” then try on some thigh highs. Here are a couple of my favorites: <a href="http://amzn.to/2wD8Xso" rel="noopener nofollow" target="_blank">Thigh Highs</a> You can't help but immediately feel sexier once you slide on your first pair and, another bonus, your partner will be drooling all over you once they find out what you're wearing. If you want to push the envelope, add a garter belt to match. Here are a couple of combination hosiery: <a href="http://amzn.to/2yH9E4o" rel="noopener nofollow" target="_blank">Garter Belts with Stockings</a> The last thing I want to share with you is that the legging or even   <a href="http://amzn.to/2gyHoWO" rel="noopener nofollow" target="_blank">Jeggings</a> (jeans/legging combo) is one of the quickest ways to enhance your casual work pieces which you can add to your wardrobe that will not only flatter just about every leg length out there, but, they're quite easy to wear, comfortable as hell and you can wear them year-round.
