#3 I Have Got Some People Waiting For Me. Aziz’s life has been a story of chance – and choice. As Michael pieces together Aziz’s journey from Sudan to Manus, he realises Aziz has been searching for a safe place for about eight years. So what gives him the ability, and the energy, to speak out? How has Aziz fought for so long, and what makes him want to be ‘the messenger’? ‘I’m pretending like I’m really happy, and laugh, and you know, smiling on the phones and doing stuff like that – so they feel like, “Oh, my son is really living in a good environment”. So they think like that, but the opposite is the truth.’ Aziz Aziz tells Michael, ‘I have got some people ...waiting for me. They love me, they want me to be with them.’ Haltingly, and sometimes with great difficulty, Aziz starts to share stories about his home, the family that he longs to see, and why he fled. Looking to find out more, Michael speaks to Sudan expert Anne Bartlett about the current situation there. As Aziz shares snapshots from his past, Anne talks Michael through the conflict in Sudan, which, despite leaving the headlines long ago, continues to unfold. Michael worries that he’s adding to Aziz’s trauma by digging up painful memories – ever aware of how hard it is to have these kinds of conversations in short, overlapping messages, without the benefit of reading someone’s signals face to face. Meanwhile, Aziz weighs up how much to tell his family about Manus, and explains to Michael why he’s sometimes tortured by regret. #107: The Scariest Navy SEAL I've Ever Met...And What He Taught Me. Jocko Willink (@jockowillink) is one of the scariest human beings imaginable. He is a lean 230 pounds. He is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu expert who used to tap out 20 Navy SEALs per workout. He is a legend in the Special Operations world. His eyes look through you more than at you. He rarely does interviews, if ever. But a few weeks ago, Jocko ended up staying at my house and we had a caffeinated mind meld. Here's some background... Jocko enlisted in the Navy after high school and spent 20 years in the SEAL Teams, first as an enlisted SEAL operator and then as a SEAL officer. During his second tour in Iraq, he led SEAL Task Unit Bruiser in the Battle of Ramadi--some of the toughest and sustained combat in the SEAL Teams since Vietnam. Under his leadership, Task Unit Bruiser became the most highly decorated Special Operations Unit of the entire war in Iraq and helped bring stability to Ramadi. Jocko was awarded the Bronze Star and a Silver Star. Upon returning to the United States, Jocko served as the Officer-in-Charge of training for all West Coast SEAL Teams, designing and implementing some of the most challenging and realistic combat training in the world. So why is Jocko opening up? Well, in part, we have mutual friends. Second, he is the co-author of an incredible new book — Extreme Ownership: How U.S. Navy SEALs Lead and Win -- which I've been loving. Trust me. Buy it. This is his first mainstream interview and one you won't want to miss. Show notes and links for this episode can be found at www.fourhourworkweek.com/podcast. Wealthfront is a massively disruptive (in a good way) set-it-and-forget-it investing service, led by technologists from places like Apple and world-famous investors. It has exploded in popularity in the last 2 years, and now has more than $2.5B under management. In fact, some of my good investor friends in Silicon Valley have millions of their own money in Wealthfront. Why? Because you can get services previously limited to the ultra-wealthy and only pay pennies on the dollar for them, and it’s all through smarter software instead of retail locations and bloated sales teams Check out wealthfront.com/tim, take their risk assessment quiz, which only takes 2-5 minutes, and they’ll show you—for free–exactly the portfolio they’d put you in. Rank #1: Six Practical Steps to Forgive. In the very first episode of the Proverbs 31 Ministries Podcast, Lysa TerKeurst shared that when seasons change, it means it’s time to let something go. The thing we most often need to let go of is unforgiveness. We’ll spend time in Genesis reading Joseph’s story of forgiveness and apply it to our own lives, and learn that while we only see the heartache, God is up to something good. “There’s always a ‘meanwhile’ to our troubles. There’s what we see, and then there’s what God is doing.” - Lysa TerKeurst Lysa TerKeurst shares six practical steps you can take today in order to forgive. Although letting go is never easy, it’s an act of obedience that frees us of burdens we were never meant to carry. When we make the decision to forgive today, it stops a chain of events that could have a terrible impact down the road. In today’s episode you’ll discover... Six practical steps to letting go of unforgiveness and how to apply them to a situation in your life today. That having compassion for someone who wronged you is necessary to find grounds for forgiveness. The decision to forgive is a one-time event, but the process of forgiveness is a progression. Rank #2: I'm Not Anxious, I'm C.A.L.M.. In Philippians 4:6, Paul writes, “Do not be anxious about anything…” But in today’s world, it’s hard to hold true to that promise in God’s Word. We see violence, sickness, betrayal and evil in the world ... every day, multiple times a day. So how can we “not be anxious about anything”? In this episode of the Proverbs 31 Ministries Podcast we’ll give you the answer: stay C.A.L.M. This week’s guest is Melissa Taylor, Director of Online Bible Studies at Proverbs 31 Ministries. She led a group of over 51,000 people through Max Lucado’s book Anxious for Nothing, and it’s one of our largest online Bible studies to date! Since then, Melissa has encountered her own battles and has continued to put the C.A.L.M. acronym, based on Philippians 4:4-8, to use in her everyday life. In today’s teaching you’ll discover... How to easily memorize the C.A.L.M. acronym and put it to use the next time anxiety starts to creep in. The presence of anxiety is unavoidable, but the prison of anxiety is optional. You might not be able to control your circumstances, but you can control your thoughts. To download the transcript for this episode, click here. The media are increasingly devoted to fear-inducing subject matter: terrorism, serial killers, environmental catastrophes. If you focus on such dangers and forget that I am your Refuge in all circumstances, you will become increasingly fearful. Every day I manifest My grace in countless places and situations, but the media take no notice. I shower not only blessings but also outright miracles on your planet. As you grow closer to Me, I open your eyes to see more and more of My Presence all around you. Things that most people hardly notice, like shifting shades of sunlight, fill you with heart-bursting Joy. You have eyes that see and ears that hear, so proclaim My abiding Presence in the world.
Rank #2: Choosing Christ Through Doubt & Fear: Bear Grylls & Rhonda Vincent. The farther we get into our faith journeys, the more difficult and complex they seem to be. Obstacles block our paths, daylight dims and the road grows hard to see. But after a while in the dark, the light of dawns breaks through the night, warming the world and showing the way forward. God’s love is that light for our paths, and our guests this week—adventurer Bear Grylls and musician Rhonda Vincent—remind us that even when challenges barrage our faith, we can choose to stay on the road and follow the path He laid for us. Rank #1: Let Your Life Illustrate Christ. Listen to Today's Devotion Tucked away in the cedar chest of my memory is a Sunday school teacher in a small West Texas church. She gave each of us a can of crayons and a sketch of Jesus torn from a coloring book. We didn’t illustrate pictures of ourselves, we colored the Son of God. We used what she gave us. No blue crayon for the sky? Make it purple. If Jesus’ hair is red, the teacher won’t mind. She taught us to paint Jesus with our own colors. God made you to do likewise. He made you unique so you could illustrate Christ. Make a big deal out of him. Don’t waste years embellishing your own image. Who needs to see your face? Who doesn’t need to see God’s? Besides, God promises no applause for self-promoters. But great reward awaits God-promoters– “Good work! You did your job well.” (Matthew 25:23). Rank #2: Let Your Uniqueness Define Your Path. Listen to Today's Devotion For the love of more, you might lose your purpose! Just because someone gives you advice, a job, or a promotion, you don’t have to accept it. Let your uniqueness define your path of life. Isaiah prayed, “You, LORD, give perfect peace to those who keep their purpose firm and put their trust in you” (Isaiah 26:3). Before you change your job title, examine your perspective toward life. As the Japanese proverb says, “Even if you sleep in a thousand-mat room, you can only sleep on one mat.” Success is not defined by position or pay scale but by this– doing the most what you do the best. Parents, tell your children to do what they love to do so well that someone pays them to do it. “Don’t be obsessed with getting more material things. Be relaxed with what you have” (Hebrews 13:5). Rank #1: GITM #9 Beth Moore. Welcome to The Glorious in the Mundane podcast everyone! Today my special guest is the lovely Beth Moore and I could not be more thrilled about it! Beth has been a dear friend through the years and I'm excited for you to hear from her and even how we met years ago and what she's meant in my life. I'm so honored that she took the time to sit with me and catch up. I'm also honored that Ms Beth ordered my favorite Mexican food called Lupe Tortilla (in Houston) for our after podcast treat! I love Beth so much and it was such a joy to get to be with her and her sweet team of ladies at Living Proof!Today you'll also hear me give a tribute to my mom and dad, who just celebrated their 50 wedding anniversary. We got to celebrate with them in Oklahoma this past weekend. We gathered with family and their college reunion friends to surprise them with a night to remember. My Mom and Dad were my first worship leaders as a child. The first people to point me to Jesus. Even in trying seasons, as a couple, I watched them surrender everything to Jesus, which was the best thing I could have seen growing up...surrender. Enjoy a "homecoming" today as you'll hear clips from the anniversary party, the songs we sang, the fun we had... This will go down as one of my favorites! Enjoy!
Rank #2: Season 3 Ep 60 - Taste and See with Margaret Feinberg. It’s so sweet to be back with you on The Glorious in the Mundane podcast today! Today’s episode is called “Taste and See” as a part of our “Come Magnify the Lord with Me” series. I love this thought of magnifying the Lord together over the bounty of food. I know that food can be a touchy subject and isn’t it just like the enemy to make it a “thing” because all in all, God MADE IT A THING! It’s HIS THING and it’s FOR US in a big and beautiful way. Enjoy a conversation today with the brilliant, Margaret Freiburg as she takes us on a journey of savoring Christ through tasting and seeing that He is good and He is ENOUGH. I pray that today’s episode encourages you to stop and savor, to perceive and respond, to TASTE and SEE that God is abundant and He’s inviting you to LIVE from all that He is!

Rank #1: #219 – Discovering Your Gifts. What gifts do you have to offer the world? So many women either tell me they aren’t sure what their unique giftings are, or they tell me that they know what they are, but they can’t seem to figure out how to put them to use. This podcast will spur you on to not only explore the gifts you have but also to be intentional about looking for ways to use those gifts in service of others. A major part of God’s calling on your life is that you put your unique abilities, interests, and personality to good use. And this is no small matter, in part because there has never been, nor will there ever be, someone just like you. That’s one thing I can tell you with absolute certainty. It is your responsibility to nurture the gift that you are to this world (you may be tempted to laugh, but don’t: God sees you that way). If you fail to pursue your gifts, the world will have lost a unique light that it will never be able to see again. Jennifer Fulwiler, the podcast guest for the show, is a woman who is constantly on the go. She lives an incredibly full life: not only is she married with six kids but she also authors books, does stand-up comedy and hosts her own Sirius XM show. Jennifer grew up in the middle of the Bible belt but was raised as an atheist. She was so adamant about her beliefs that she loved to argue against the existence of God with the Christians in her hometown. It was only later in life when she was blessed with her first child that she began to change her mind. She was overwhelmed with a love so intense that she knew it had to originate from a source. In this way, Jennifer’s entry into motherhood marked the beginning of her journey in finding God and discovering the life-giving faith that she lives out today. About a year ago, Jennifer stumbled into comedy. She noticed that her natural gift for making others laugh could help people who were struggling or suffering by taking them out of themselves and relieving the burden they carried, even if only for a moment. At the same time, Jennifer also noticed that there weren’t people like her in the world of professional comedy. When she watched comedy shows on Netflix, the comedians’ sense of humor wasn’t relatable to her as a Christ-follower. Sometimes these comedians were overtly insulting to people of faith, but more often the problem was that most of their jokes were crude, heavily focused on hookup culture or filled to the brim with F-bombs. In light of all that, Jennifer saw that there was a clear need for her gift. She decided to do a tour to help people reconnect with hope through laughter while enjoying a night out. In this unexpected way, a whole new career was born. Using her life as an example, Jennifer and I talk about what it looks like to follow your passion and be creative in using your gifts to fulfill needs that aren’t being met by anyone else. Personally, Jennifer has seen how powerful this can be: in pursuing her unique gifts, she has learned what it is to bring joy to the lives of women across the world and, in doing so, help them carry their crosses. Rank #2: #186 – Authority with Priscilla Shirer. Five years from now, what will you wish you had done with what you have now? You have power and God has given you the authority to use it, but are you using it? Has the authority you have access to cultivated change within your workplace, neighborhood or relationships? In this episode, I’m talking with my sister, Priscilla Shirer about accessing and exercising the authority that has been given to us as believers. We miss out on experiencing the fullness of what God has for us when we live as if there is no significance in the seemingly the mundane. But God is there too. He does not need spotlights or stages to declare His glory. He wants our obedience. Can I remind you of something? You have what you need to obey. Priscilla stresses in our conversations that fears and feelings of self-doubt stand no chance stacked up against an obedient and equipped woman of God. Your eyes will be opened wide by God’s power when you choose to believe there is significance right where you are. It’s time for us to step away from what’s comfortable. We must choose to use the power that has been given to us and accept the responsibility that comes with it. This conversation between these two was originally recorded at Dr. Hybel’s 2016 Global Leadership Summit, an annual training event that aims to transform Christian leaders around the world with an injection of vision, skill development, and inspiration. Together, they hit a range of topics and address Bishop’s philosophy on Leadership. Bishop also leans in on some of the hard truths of leadership; how he balances his life and reconciles the dropping of balls; and lastly, he speaks openly about racial reconciliation within the Church and the Community.
