Rank #1: Ava Bracelet-All Your Questions Addressed with Lindsay Meisel – #23

Podcast cover
Read more
“Women do enough work as it is.” When AVA’s founder watched his wife wake up every morning to track her BBT, he thought, “there must be a better way.” After much research and many trials later AVA was created. It was released last year amongst a lot of buzz and excitement but also a lot of questions and confusion. That’s why we reached out to AVA to find out more about the bracelet that reportedly is taking the work out of fertility tracking. We personally love extolling the benefits of the Fertility Awareness Method. However, we understand that schedules can be erratic and not conducive to the consistency needed to get accurate BBT. Also, though cervical mucus is a wonderful fertility indicator, some women are not confident that they can identify the egg white mucus that is indicative of the fertile window. The AVA bracelet tracks 9 physiological parameters that are consistent with a woman during ovulation. It also tracks important things such as sleep, REM, and physiological stress. It seems pretty amazing, right? During this interview, you will get all your questions answered and find out how AVA can really make sure you are optimizing your fertility days as well as understanding your body’s cycles better.

Interview with Lindsay Meisel Ava

Lindsay Meisel is a science editor and head of content for Ava, a cycle tracking sensor bracelet that uses new technology to precisely detect a woman’s fertile window in real time. Rank #2: Thyroid Balance is Paramount to Fertility with Richard Shames, MD – #36

Podcast cover
Read more
Dr. Shames became very invested in learning about the thyroid after his wife Karilee developed thyroid disease. Karilee, a nurse practitioner, went to some of the top endocrinologists and yet felt her care was very inadequate. Dr Shames along with his wife and daughter (an acupuncturist) dedicate their lives to help thyroid sufferers around the globe. It is a bigger epidemic then diabetes and yet many health care systems largely sweep it under the rug. “It can’t kill you though you may wish you were dead.” Thyroid disease can rob you of a quality of life and has a large laundry list of symptoms. For fertility, thyroid health is paramount and must be treated in orchestra with the hormones and adrenal system. In this interview we discuss testing, treatment, proper rangers  and the causative factor. I am a big fan of Dr. Shames and have recommended his book, Feeling Fat, Fuzzy and Frazzled to many of my patients who have all raved about it. Dr. Shames understands the complexity of thyroid disease but also acknowledges that because it is a complex condition everyone must be treated as an individual.

In her thirties, she suffered from what she calls the 4 “F’s” – frazzled, frumpy, fat, and you can imagine the fourth “F.” She was a stress case, in couple’s therapy, and premenstrual. She went to my doctor and he offered Prozac and birth control pills, but that just didn’t feel right.

She decided to apply her medical training to myself, and discovered her cortisol level was insanely high. Within one month, she had fixed the issue and felt enormously better. She took on my low thyroid next, and then her bad estrogens. She ate differently, exercised less, and took 3 supplements. She lost 25 pounds and graduated from couple’s therapy, and was on to something!

The solution to her problems became The Gottfried Protocol, and it has worked gloriously well on the 10,000+ people in the past 10 years. Her mission at The Gottfried Institute – and in life – is to help women feel sexy, vital and balanced from their cells to their souls. That means getting your weight right where you want it, getting your energy and sex drive maximised, and doing it all naturally and safely.

Rank #5: How To Triumph Over Secondary Infertility – #31

Podcast cover
Read more
Is secondary infertility affecting you? Over 3 million couples in the U.S. alone are faced with the devastating diagnosis of secondary infertility.  Wendy Cooper shares how she triumphed over secondary infertility and how you can too!  When Wendy and her husband made the decision to have a second child they found  it wasn’t happening as easy as the first time around.  Wendy went to get evaluated by an IVF doctor and was told  that she would not be a good candidate for IVF and not only that but her hormone levels were that of a perimenopausal woman! Donor eggs were recommended as the only option. Many of us may have  taken the specialist at his word assuming our chances of natural conception were improbable but not Wendy. She was not interested in the donor egg option and believed in her heart that her body was simply needing the right kind of nurturing to get it into a state where it could support a new life. A book by Deepak Chopra gave her the encouragement she needed. He wrote that the cells in the body regenerate every 7 years and with that was the impetus to do what she could to help her body regenerate and hence  support her body to biologically “age in reverse”. She read everything out there and came across a Naturopath and Fertility Specialist that supported her beliefs, Dr. Iva Keene. Iva spoke about the 4 month maturation period where a cell matures into an egg and how to support the body and therefore the egg during that period as well as the partner’s sperm. Wendy worked with Iva and gave her body the nurturing it wanted and needed. The end result,  after 4 months she was pregnant and at 45 gave birth to a gorgeous, vibrantly healthy baby boy. During her pregnancy the doctors told her her labs looked like someone in their 20’s!

We discuss first steps when planning on starting a family which is testing. Iva discusses the most important diagnostic tests to take and what kind of tests give the most accurate results. Even how to bypass your Doctor if they are not willing to prescribe the tests you need. I ask Iva about 2 popular fertility hormones: DHEA and Progesterone. Aging in reverse? Rituals to call in our babies soul? Best sex in your 60s and 70s? We cover all of it in this impassioned interview. Dr. Chris has worked tirelessly to shift how women view themselves based on their chronological age and external messages. She gives an example of a native tribe where women have become pregnant in their 50s and 60s because they were never given the message that they couldn’t. What determines how our bodies age? What if we re-examine how we experience time and therefore live a life where time is abundant and we feed our bodies and souls so that we are aging in reverse? Dr Chris says,  "become an outlier" where the reality for others about degeneration of the body and mind don’t pertain to us in the same way. With fertility women are given so many negative messages as we get older. The messages and the power we give them can be quite detrimental to our ability to conceive. We have the power to listen to new messages and connect to powerful source energy that allows for the body to heal, regenerate and create new life. Fertility is a spiritual process and Dr. Chris has a wonderful way of reconnecting us to that truth. She reminds us that our babies soul is out there and nudges us toward the process of calling the baby in through rituals and connected love making.

Rank #10: Restoring Healthy Gut Flora Reverses Diseases and Infertility with Dr. Natasha McBride – #21

Podcast cover
Read more
Dr. Natasha’s first child was diagnosed with autism at the age of 3. The medical world had nothing to offer. She took it upon herself to go back to school and learn everything she could about nutrition to help her child. At age 20 he is no longer autistic and is a thriving self sufficient young man. In the years since she has helped tens of thousands of families with her GAPS protocol. What started as a passion and drive to help her son and all the other families with autistic children became much more far reaching. She discovered that through healing the gut any psychological and physiological condition could be healed irregardless of what the medical world had to say. She has seen evidence of this in people all around the world. She explains that gut flora imbalances are a leading cause of infertility along with the mainstream propaganda that led to the low fat dietary movement. Poor gut health leads to hormone imbalances and endocrine disorders and a myriad of health problems that affect the ability to conceive, lead to multiple miscarriages and health problems in children. As disparaging as this news is, Dr. Natasha guides you to restoring your gut “seal and heal” which is where the body can heal. She also emphasizes the critical importance of doing this before trying to conceive to protect your child from needless suffering as the mother (it’s been shown) passes on her gut flora to her child which sets them up for good or poor health.

Rank #14: Dried Urine Hormone Testing is A Total Game Changer with Dr. Carrie Jones – #12

Podcast cover
Read more
In today’s episode I talk with Dr. Carrie Jones about the DUTCH test. Lauded as a game changer in the Hormone testing arena. Dr. Carrie talks about why the DUTCH test was created. There has always been the two standard approaches to testing hormones: saliva and serum. Where these tests fell short is that they could not show hormonal pathways. Dr. Carrie discusses the role of hormonal pathways and how they have shown to be the most accurate markers for hormone availability and giving practitioners detailed information for accurate assessment and treatment. Before the DUTCH test, a woman (with fertility issues) could have a hormone panel that showed her hormones where in normal range. The problem is that hormones fluctuate and so what appears as normal hormone ranges could be out of range after a serum or saliva sample was taken. With Cycle Mapping a woman’s hormone levels are assessed throughout her entire cycle. This gives a true picture of a woman’s hormonal levels. We discuss the importance of testing not guessing and how proper testing can resolve much heartache and confusion. The DUTCH test is offered direct to consumer and Precision Analytics (the inventors of the test) are offering our listener’s $50 off their tests.

Rank #17: Undoctored: Why Health Care Has Failed You and How You Can Become Smarter Than Your Doctor with Dr. William Davis – #24

Podcast cover
Read more
“I’ve lost count of all the infertile women who have become moms (that followed the Wheat Belly lifestyle)." William Davis, MD His first book, Wheat Belly was a global phenomenon. Bombarded by media. Multiple guest appearances on The Dr. Oz show. It completely changed the paradigm and thus the conversation about health and nutrition. First touted as a diet to reverse and prevent heart disease soon found rabid fans showing pics of incredible changes to their face and bodies. “I look 20 years younger.” “My sex drive is back.” “I lost 35 pounds.” “I am pregnant.” The stories grew of total transformations. With Dr. Davis’ second book, Undoctored: Why Health Care Has Failed You and How You Can Become Smarter Than Your Doctor, the contents proved to be too controversial for mainstream media. Dr. Davis discusses the rapid dissemination of information and the creation of global communities of people sharing health information as the real advancement in healthcare. Millions of people are educating themselves like never before and getting really smart on how to truly take care of their bodies and minds. No longer willing to be hapless victims of a corrupt medical system where big pharma profits while millions become collateral damage of a system based on greed. We discuss the foundational ways in which we can truly take charge of our health. His message is eliminate wheat, grain and sugar while normalizing bowel flora, optimizing iodine and Omega 3 levels. This combination is turning around chronic, degenerative and life depleting diseases all over the world. One of the most impactful interviews on Fertility Hour. Please share it with all your loved ones and on social media.

Interview with William Davis

About Episode Guest

Dr. William Davis is a New York Times #1 Best Selling Author, and the Medical Director and founder of the Wheat Belly Lifestyle Institute, as well as the Cureality program.

He is responsible for exposing the incredible nutritional blunder being made by “official” health agencies: Eat more “healthy whole grains.” The wheat of today is different from the wheat of 1960, thanks to extensive genetics manipulations introduced to increase yield-per-acre. Founder of the international online program for heart health, Track Your Plaque, his experience in thousands of participants uncovered how foods made of wheat actually CAUSED heart disease and heart attack. Eliminating wheat yielded results beyond everyone’s expectations: substantial weight loss, correction of cholesterol abnormalities, relief from inflammatory diseases like arthritis, better mood–benefits that led to prevention of heart disease but a lot more benefits in other areas of health.

You can find out more about Dr. Davis through his website and by following him on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

Dr. Davis now advocates a lifestyle in which all foods made from wheat are removed. He articulates this approach in his book, Wheat Belly: Lose the wheat, lose the weight and find your path back to health, as well as his online program, Track Your Plaque. He lives what he preaches, not having indulged in a wheat-containing bagel, ciabatta, or pretzel in many years.

Interview with Bill Statham

About Episode Guest

Bill Statham was born in Toowoomba in Queensland and grew up on a dairy farm on the fertile Darling Downs. When he was in his twenties he told friends that one day he would write a book. Twenty years later this pipedream became a reality when The Chemical Maze – Your Guide to Food Additives and Cosmetic Ingredients was first published.  Little did he realise all those years ago that it would become a best seller and create an awareness that would change many people’s lives for the better.

In the ten years leading up to the publication of his first book in 2001, Bill studied and practiced homeopathy, both in Australia and in England. It was during this time that he became increasingly concerned about the detrimental effects on people’s health caused by synthetic chemicals in foods, cosmetics and personal care products. The Chemical Maze was born out of a need to make it simpler and easier for people to recognize chemicals as additives and ingredients that have the potential to be harmful to health.

The Chemical Maze is now in its 5th edition and has sold over 150,000 copies, mostly in Australia and N.Z.  It is also published in the U.K. and North America and in six foreign languages – Polish, Latvian, Russian, Finnish, French and Italian.

In 2007 The Chemical Maze reached number 7 on the bestseller list in New Zealand.

You can find out more about Bill at his website and by following him on LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook.

Bill Statham lives with his wife and business partner Kay Lancashire in the picturesque Gippsland region of Victoria. He is a researcher and writer with an interest in health education and a commitment to making a positive difference to the health of people and the environment. Bill studied and practised homeopathy both in Australia and the UK for over ten years. During this time he became increasingly concerned about the detrimental effects on health caused by synthetic chemicals in the foods we eat and cosmetic products we use every day.
