Who would have ever imagined using BlackJack as a method to talk about Hollnagal's notion of ETTO?  The quick anwer to that question is James Barker.  Our friend Jim has graced the podcast several times and most often discusses the idea of complexity and the world of reliabiltiy.  Today he goes one step farther on this journey and talks about risk and complexity using BlackJack.

Complex systems are interdependant, interconnected, interrelated, and infinately possible...and so is BlackJack.  Give this one a listen - you will like it.

Sidney Dekker's newest book is just out and I like this one a lot.

The Safety Anarchist is a book, not about anarchy, but about standing up to the traditional paradigm and calling out the future - and it does not look the same.

This book is a thoughtful discussion of the changes that have been taking place.  It is solid argument (in the academic form of that word) for change.   The reviews alone are worth reading.

Listen and see what you think.

He served as Acting Chairman from April 26, 2014, until he was appointed as Chairman.

From 1973 until 1990, Chairman Hart held a series of legal positions, mostly in the private sector. He joined the Board for the first time in 1990 and served until 1993. From 1993 until 1995, he was Deputy Administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, then went on to serve as Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Assistant Administrator for System Safety and FAA Deputy Director for Air Traffic Safety Oversight before returning to the Board in 2009.

Hart’s 2-year appointment as Chairman expired on March 15, 2017. His 5-year term as Member ended December 31, 2017.

There is a new book in town.... and it is a good one.   Beyond Blame is a story about how one organization had to move past the old ways of viewing the world and start looking at new ways to learn and improve.

This podcast is a crossover between DevOps, High Reliability Computing, Safety, Human Performance, Operations, and pretty much any other process that is too risky to leave alone and too valuable to fail.  I love the fact that our worlds are colliding and combining.  You will really like this podcast no matter which world you operate within...he says, ending a sentence with a preposition.
Dave Zwieback has been working with complex, mission-critical I.T. services and teams for two decades. His career spans small high-tech startups, non-profits, and behemoth engineering, financial services, and pharmaceutical firms.  He is involved in the AWSOME POSTMORTEMS workshops!.
