Rank #6: Chris Hinshaw Explains why your endurance sucks and how to fix it - Ep. 10

Podcast cover
Read more
Since beginning to work with Jason Khalipa in 2013, Chris Hinshaw has quickly become regarded as the most successful endurance coach in the sport of Crossfit.  In the 2014 Games he worked with over two dozen individual Games athletes.  He works with athletes such as Rich Froning, Camille Leblanc-Bazinet, Mat Fraser, Lindsey Valenzuela, etc.  All the best in other words.     When we first met, we shared the common belief that Crossfit athletes are not training their endurance efficiently and in many cases are not reaching their potential, not even close.  Traditional Crossfit workouts predominantly increase your VO2max, which after 1 year or so reaches it's genetic potential.  What gets undertrained then is the athlete's lactate threshold, which basically means the highest intensity one can sustain without crashing and burning.  That number can increase dramatically and consistently.  The problem is that to train this, one must run at a specific heart rate.  One must train at or slightly faster than his/her lactate threshold to push that number higher.  All out efforts, like Crossfit workouts, do not achieve this goal.     Chris explains this problem and how he gets some of the fittest people on the planet, even fitter.    Check us out at: http://www.brUTEstrengthTraining.com SUBSCRIBE to our YouTube channel here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtWR... Rank #10: Tommy Hackenbruck and Mental Toughness - Ep. 1

Podcast cover
Read more
Tommy Hackenbruck has been one of my best friends and mentors over the last several years and it is only fitting that our very first podcast be with the biggest BRUTE in the game. We have won the Crossfit Games together twice.  We have done Sealfit together.  We have gone through a lot.     The most impressive thing about Tommy is his mental game.  The best example I can give of how tough this dude is is my experience with him at Sealfit.  There are future Navy Seals in every Kokoro camp class.  There were nearly 10 Games athletes.  He blew everyone out of the water.  Was he in pain?  Yes.  Did he show it?  Not in the least.    I finally got to sit down on camera with him and ask him exactly what led to his mental toughness. We talked about steroid use in Crossfit and his experience at the Games as an individual vs. a team.     - Mike Cazayoux
