This podcast sounded like interesting ideas (readings of fiction and interviews), but the host is really obnoxious. I can’t get past that.

So interesting!

These guys are so fun to listen to! And informative! I always learn something new. And now that it’s daily, I’m really enjoying discovering all this great literature. I loved the Ken Hite episode!

Nine twisty-turny tales of tragic human drama, played out in Victorian parlors, death beds and lonely country roads. This collection of Violet Hunt writings has all the requirements for short story entertainment: flirtatious beauties, mismatched love, ''lung symptoms'', and cruel, cruel fate. Sometimes the horror has a ghostly source, but often the horror is rooted in our very human pathology. - Lisa Reichert

Black Clock Audio Tales

April 1-30th, 30 days of epic greek poem, prayers, and parody. Homeric poems from Ancient Greek, t, and then Bat-rach-o-myo-machia.

One of the oldest works of literature in literature. The sequel to the Odyssey, also attributed to Homer, and the first instance of the sequel being better than the original.

Written in 800 BC, the Iliad is traditionally attributed to Homer. Set during the Trojan War, the ten-year siege of the city of Troy (Ilium) by a coalition of Greek states, it tells of the battles and events during the weeks of a quarrel between King Agamemnon and the warrior Achilles.

Although the story covers only a few weeks in the final year of the war, the Iliad mentions or alludes to many of the Greek legends about the siege; the earlier events, such as the gathering of warriors for the siege, the cause of the war, and related concerns tend to appear near the beginning. Then the epic narrative takes up events prophesied for the future, such as Achilles' imminent death and the fall of Troy, although the narrative ends before these events take place. However, as these events are prefigured and alluded to more and more vividly, when it reaches an end the poem has told a more or less complete tale of the Trojan War.

Welcome to readings 90-106

The Picture of Dorian Gray is a Gothic and philosophical novel by Oscar Wilde, first published complete in the July 1890 issue of Lippincott's Monthly Magazine.[1][2] Fearing the story was indecent, the magazine's editor without Wilde's knowledge deleted roughly five hundred words before publication. Despite that censorship, The Picture of Dorian Gray offended the moral sensibilities of British book reviewers, some of whom said that Oscar Wilde merited prosecution for violating the laws guarding the public morality. In response, Wilde aggressively defended his novel and art in correspondence with the British press, although he personally made excisions of some of the most controversial material when revising and lengthening the story for book publication the following year.

Rank #20: BCAT-257: The Residence at Whitminster/MR James

"The Residence at Whitminster" is a short ghost story by the British author M.R. James. It was first published in 1919 as part of the anthology A Thin Ghost and Others. The anthology's title is taken from a line in the story, "a withered heart makes an ugly thin ghost".

The story takes place in a house next to a church over two different time periods. The first part of the story takes place in the year 1730. The second part takes place about a hundred years later. In the first part of the story, two adolescent boys, who are supposed to be under the care of the clergyman who lives in the house, dabble in the occult and die soon afterwards. In the second part of the story, a new clergyman and his niece move into the house. The housekeeper complains that one unused bedroom is infested with insects. The niece sees visions of the two boys who lived in the house a century earlier.
