Podcast cover
Read more

Entrepreneur Chris Tara-Browne owned 100 coffee houses in over 6 countries. Due to unfortunate situations involving a dishonest business partner Chris was forced to walk away from his 26 million dollar empire.

Chris's wife inticed the entrepreneur side of Chris with her checks from the dealership she was a part of. He entered into the car game almost 2.5 years ago and has been crushing it since.

He attributes his success to the understanding that being a sales professional is the same as owning your own business. Chris feels that if you want to make the car industry your career you MUST think long term. The true key to success is long term business relationships that generate referrals. If you have a mind frame of from SOLD to NEXT you won't ever develop referral based business.

In this podcast, Chris gives his highly intelligent advice, from the entrepreneurial side, of how to maximize your "sweat equity" investment in your automotive career. This requires discipline, on-going training, and determination.

Rank #14: EP. 17: Keep It Stupid Simple With David Blasingame

Podcast cover
Read more

David Blasingame, a veteran in the car industry for over 45 years, started as a cashier in a body shop and moved through the ranks to his end goal at AutoFlex Leasing. In college, he found an opening in this body shop and it changed his life forever by putting his foot into the car industry by taking a risk of applying for a new position. He went from a fixed salary to determining his know income via commission, allowing him to buy a house and new car that first year!

David’s key advice in the industry is that determination is key and you should stay focused on your end goal. He also states that is not about how much you make on the car, it’s about how many cars you actually sell because you’re creating customers and more referrals. In his time with AutoFlex, he understood that because of the leasing programs, he would get the most customers for the frequency of short term leases, trading in to get the newest models or even buying the car they leased!

As a salesman, David could spot a salesman from the crowd. To hire a good salesman, he would check background checks as far back as you can go as well as testing the potential hire. You need to make sure that your employees are trained effectively, well educated and the urgency to know where they are in the transaction.

Rank #15: EP:21 Associate With The Best Says Brian Kennedy

Podcast cover
Read more

Brian Kennedy always wanted to be successful and make money. While in college he had a part-time job at an electronic store “circuit city” making an average of 5k a month. He later learned that at the time the average UCLA graduate makes 43k a year. After that Brian decided to end his college career.

Brian was in the process of becoming a stockbroker in Beverly Hills when a friend of his suggested he talk to his father who was a Manager of a Mitsubishi dealership. After weighing the risk and reward between the two opportunities, Brian started his automotive career.  For the first three months, he was averaging 10-11 cars per month making between $4000-5100 each month. Brian wasn’t ok with his results. He’s manager started to coach him on what to say and how to overcome objections. By implementing the instructions word for word, he sold 24.5 cars and made $10,700 the remaining 23 days of that month

Brian believes that the biggest mistake that people make in the automotive industry is hanging out with people who sell 6 cars a month and who doesn’t have the desire to achieve more. You must be intentional about finding people better than you and learning from them. Also by being in Automotive management for the last 15 years, Brian adopted the mindset that you have to help your team make money and in turn, you will make money.

Tune in with us as Brian Kennedy shares how important it is as a manager to support and pour to your team.

The need for financial freedom led her to the industry she KNEW could be the solution. Tianna firmly believes that “If you make this your one thing and you go hard at it you can make more than college graduate - put in the work!”

Tianna has utilized the tools that Build a Brand has given her. Tianna has her very own website. She believes she builds rapport with her customers so easily because she humanizes herself with a genuine bio section on her website and texting to ask how her customer's day is going, not just "Are you going to buy this car." When she is not with a customer she is posting blogs, updating inventory on her website, posting to social media, and doing research related to the car industry.

Sean Bradley and LA Wiliams share their expertise with Tianna on this podcast, giving her advice on how to improve her website and her road to the sale process. Sean gives helpful tips on time maximization, which is a must to capitalize on all your money making opportunities and truly performing at your peak potential. Zack felt that the Harley Davidson brand fitted who he is. He was very successful as their Marketing manager and really great with people. That caused the upper management team offered him a position on the sales floor and he was able to negotiate and keep his marketing salary plus commissions when he sold a unit. In the beginning, he considered himself mediocre salesperson making 100 calls a week. One day he had a paradigm shift and knew he had to make more money. Zack tripled his calls to a minimum of 300 calls week and started cash flowing $8k-$10k a month. His average unit sold was 18 per month.

Zack was approached by the Ford Dealership three times before he was open to having a conversation about the change. He was very nervous to make the shift, he was newly married and about to have a daughter, but after talking to his wife he went for it. Zack knew that his image didn’t initially scream Ford salesman, so he started searching on ways to brand himself and owning his image. That’s when the “The Tattooed Sales Guy” was born. He utilized social media he was able to sell 21 cars in his first 18 days.  His general manager Randy Hart took him under his wing and kept encouraging him. Michael West is from Lucedale, MS that has a population of 25K. He grew up in a trailer where he shared a sofa bed with his siblings. It was his early upbringings, that made him never what to experience being poor as an adult.  His father was a building contractor, and Michael was a welder by trade. He had gotten his start in the automotive industry helping his Stepfather “Art” with his “buy here, pay here” dealership. He didn’t have sales experience but he was a great people person.

Michael was in the process of getting his first two deals funded, Hurricane Katrina Hit and the dealership lost everything and went from having 75 paid accounts to just 3. It took them two months to reopen. In November of 2005, they sold 34 cars and was getting back on their feet. Michael wanted to get out of the buy here/pay here but they needed more capital. Talked to his stepdad to start financing vehicles through a bank. They partnered with Western Funding and sold 343 cars over a 2 ½ year time frame. They started receiving backend money that was increasing month after month.  Things started going well, but that was short lived...Western Funding filed bankruptcy.

Michael self-taught himself finance and started signing up multiple banks. He mastered how to fill out the banks' packets, and had the tenacity to keep following up and landing major banks.  As Direct Auto became more successful Michael started investing in himself. Michael took a Joe Verde class that turned his mindset and business around. Michael feels that Finance is his superpower wants to help other small independent dealerships become successful and he is also in the works of creating an app that helps dealers to connect with banks “Indirect Auto”, (coming soon) Join us as Michael West shares his story and how independent dealerships can master the automotive finance game.
