60 kWh Bolt battery pack

By SDutcher - Aug 23 2019
Read more
This is a question, I have a 60kwh (over 400 vdc fully charged) complete Chevy Bolt EV Battery pack(actually I have the whole savaged car) what I want to do is hook it up up to 24 - 210 watt solar panels. I want to charge during the day, and then use it late afternoon till midnight. The pack would be outputted to a Sunny Boy grid tied series inverter which is designed for high DC voltage. What I need to know is how I can safely charge the pack to a maximum of 80% and never go below 30%? Do they make a charge controller that charge this high levels that is adjustable to maintain this type of battery pack? Can it be done with contactors? Any help would be! By the way I live in the USA.

Started a new job and everything you guys discuss is exactly what I need help keeping a pulse on. I thank you for that. I hope we’ll be on your radar soon. The only thing I would recommend is making sure that you all aren’t afraid to challenge each other. There have been a few topics where I wish we got to hear some back and forth with different perspectives, even if it’s just playing devils advocate (most notably a unilateral call for Elon to step down as Tesla CEO, which you made feel “obvious” but his latest stock package suggests some very smart, very wealthy people completely disagree). Thanks again for everything!

Rank #20: Cleantech Talk #12

Podcast cover
Read more
In this week's second episode of Cleantech Talk, Chris DeMorro and I kick off the show by talking about an Edmunds study released on Earth Day that illogically bunched plug-in electric cars with conventional hybrids (and bashed them). I get a little worked up.

We also talk about why electric cars are great first cars for teenagers, and why they love them. We go from there to another fun one about a Bosch autopilot video that features a Tesla Model S. And we close with a discussion about some electric car early adopters (true early adopters) who have been driving electric for at least a decade. Thanks to our friends at Plug In America for that one.
